The main advantage that suzuki sees for their cars in India is...reduce structural members to reduce weight.... It provides them liberty to attain more mileage, find smaller brake pads, less suspension effectivity, less engine capacity ...so its internally helping them to gain a major cost advantage.... Etios was one car which people literally hated..but was surprised at seeing majority of their car and how far their engineering was good ..... Same is case with Altroz with 900kg and getting 5star is just phenomenal..... When talking about Suv's this is where the moose test helps to see how they perform in lane change.... Ecosport is one car which managed to be succesful in this test inspite of high CG....but Nissan kicks which had low CG faired poorly in this....so in this case it is evident why vhicle dynamics is also important for safety as well
Indian cars can be classified as four in general in terms of saferty,
1.One with strong shell/structural design with strong sheet metal -> eg all high end cars like Merc, BMW and budget cars like VAG
2.One with strong shell/structural design with poor sheet metal -> eg. cars like Etios
3.One with poor shell/structural design with strong sheet metal --> eg Scorpio
4.One with both poor structure and poor metal body --> most cars from M*r*ti (aka p*p*d), Hy*da* Re*u*t etc
Great informative video. It would have been great if you had explained what is PRS and SRS, what constitutes PRS and why PRS is more important than SRS. This would have helped people to understand why wearing seat belts are extremely important than the count of airbags in a vehicle.
What's PRS/SRS. Lazy to Google but curious to briefly know
SRS or Supplemental Restraint System is just a technical term for Airbags, used by engineers in the Automotive Industry. It is called "supplemental" because airbags supplement the seatbelts which are the "Primary Restraint System" (PRS) in regards to crash safety.

One of the major problems for manufactures in India is the tax system. Cars and two-wheelers (except electric vehicles) attract goods and services tax of 28%. Different types of cess ranging from 1-22% are added after the GST, which leads the effective tax rate to be 29-50%. Customers have to bear these taxes plus the rising petrol charges. Also, the sub-4-meter rule makes manufacture hesitant to the Indian market example new polo (which is above sub 4 meters). If govt can reduce taxes then manufacturers will be able to provide cars with better safety features.

Hi Vivek and JD. Just a question related to platform and safety. Maruti Suzuki heartect platform is used in multiple cars, and different cars with this platforms have different GNCAP crash rating (Spresso-0, Swift,Wagon R - 2* and Ertiga 3*). Do you know what could be the reason. Is it because of the use of stronger material for ertiga and weaker material for sPresso?

I thought the same...but then...it's more fun this way 😝...except the ambassador and Etios, they didn't say any other brand name, but enthusiasts can guess each and every model name correctly 😎...they just have to give some clues/context..(reason why talking cars feels close to us)...also you have to be up to date. One can easily guess they were talking about the Seltos split in two halves, or the Santro toppling the endy or the example that they showed of differing build quality was the Sonet blueprints from TeamBHP...whether they are speaking diplomatically or are giving us enough clues depends on us being up-to-date 👍🏼
