Yeah, it would be easy for a contractor to show those chunks that fell out of the foundation to the owner and say he needs to jack up the house and do a major repair. UGGG
I dislike contractors that make it seem like there rocket scientist like come on its not that hard oh hard yeah right when I ran into a contractor like that I tell them thank ill give u a call back never again
I used Mike's techniques to repair my slab and foundation surfaces which had deteriorated due to our severe winter weather here in upstate New York. Came out looking almost better than when it was new. The hardest part was working on my knees under a 30' deck for a section that had crumbled away from under one of the block wall sections. I wouldn't want to do it again at my age (78) so I made sure to paint it twice with a good quality water proof paint. Never had done any masonry work in my life before tackling this job.
Thanks for the share. It is always nice to see people willing to tackle jobs. I am 10 years your junior and have always felt that a person needs to get in there and do it. I am aware of my limitations and act accordingly, just don't coddle myself. Mike is definitely "the man" when it comes to just getting in there and doing the job without a lot of fanfare. As Mike says, "It ain't no big deal."
mike recently ive became a mason a few years ago up here in upstate NY local 2 im laying block and brick but have so many ideas for my home, regardless how many views you get i still love to watch and learn what you do and appreciate all your effort you put into your videos and demonstrations. i cant thank you enough for being the honest ambitious man you are and i think its awsome you take the time to reply to everyones comment. its no big deal with the right attitude, god bless ya
Thanks for the video Mike. I will be doing some minor foundation repairs soon. No big holes like on this video , i hope. I really enjoy your stone work videos , you are a inspiration.
Live in Wyoming, foundations just like Pennsylvania and weather, I’ve been doing drywall taping for 43 years your Directions are very CLEAR and concise my new to me home is 103 years old. I’ve taught a lot of people, From one professional to another you are among the Top. Thanks
I’ve been installing working in foooring 50 years flooring enjoy your Vedieos people around here young people won’t listen to a more simple way I can still learn but experience is best right
I have a 115-year-old house with a poured foundation that is crumbling. Primarily surface damage, since it still seems pretty strong. The contractor came in and gave a 40,000 price tag to repair it. After watching your videos, my issues seem minor. I wish you lived in MN!
Just love your Videos, helps me to not worry so much about doing this type of work and to match things as best you can. In the end it looks much better than it did and it will last as long as it needs to. Thanx Mike
I learn so much from your videos. My issue is inside my basement with plaster at the lower 24" of the walls damaged from a flood, falling down. There are several long vertical cracks in the concrete behind it, too. These were likely from a lack of rain gutters over time, which I've since had installed. (It's a 104 yr old home I bought 3.5 yrs ago.) I am looking for a good product to inject into the cracks after removing all the loose plaster and before covering them up, again.
Another fine job Mike! Using stone and brick as filler makes the fill more stable on a rock foundation! You are at the age of reason Mike! Make it simple! The foundation was never pretty! You did a great job of helping keep a old house stable and standing! Young people overthink! Thank you for the vlog Mike! I liked your knee pad! That’s the best knee pad I’ve seen! Your knees look like there doing good! Your still a youngster at heart!👏
The way Mr Mike Haduck chips away with that hammer its a good thing he never became a dentist you would have no teeth but one hell of a concrete smile😁
Awesome repair, and the homeowners were blessed to have you on their job. Any tips for removing paint from exterior brick walls? It's really trapping moisture and we want to try cleaning it off.
Thanks PWN, I can't say about the brick, most brick are different and react differently when being cleaned, I would question the moisture problem, I haven't never remember seeing one unless rain water was getting behind the brick, thanks Mike
I got a house on west virgina beautiful places but is a old house i have 🕳 on my foundation stones or wereber materials is coming at parts is a 1916 house. Thanks for this video. What about the small gaps here and there, especially the ones between bricks? Should not they be all filled with cement or something?
Very honest guy, some contractors tell you how the house is going to shift and move in rainy season or snow. Then they wanting 20,000 dollars to repair it.
Mike I have a question how would you get mortar off of red bricks on a chimney not big clumps just my first attempt at repointing some joints I made the mix to wet any help is appreciated Thankyou Dan
Hi Dan, the next day I usually scrub it with a scrubbrush and water, sometimes a steel brush helps, after the first day the cement gets hard, I got a video coming out in a few weeks " repointing brickwork" thanks Mike
Awesome, I can do this! Mike, why do many staircases and foundation sides on houses continue to show repairs like this one, fall out, crumble worse, etc. it’s a quick fix to sell a house. Wrong cement product maybe? Not wetting like you do? I see it a lot around my neighborhood.and thank you for these videos, Mike-you make it look fun!
This foundation your working on is just like mine except not on corner. Spalling but in many spots the front of the brick is gone. We bid what you're doing, but next year it falls off hole is bigger.
If the bricks are spalling this may be frost getting inside damp bricks. A foundation generally does not have a dpc at a lower level so moisture will rise from the subsoil. Paint or render can hide the problem for a sale but makes it worse as the water cannot escape into the air. Bricks below dpc should be engineering not facing bricks. A solution would be to replace a couple of courses with engineering bricks. They are heavy, strong and very dense. Not something that can be done in a day or in long sections as your house must be supported without sinking. First task, remove the render and any soil that can be kept away from the wall. If the bricks behind are wet, let them dry. Frost will not damage dry materials. Ensure there are no downspouts and the siding drips clear of bricks
@Roy Chatfield hi Roy. The big problem with home owners is there is no rain gutters or they are blocked or the land is not pitched away from the house and the water is going into or around the foundation, if those two things are kept up there is rarely any problem with foundations no matter what type of masonry was used, my experience, thanks Mike
