My great-grandfather, Samuel, was born in the Kidderminster (England) area around 1857. Records show that he moved to and from Scotland as a carpet weaver. When in Perth (Scotland) he lived in house which was definitely not a workers' house. This indicates to me that his "international" residence movements that he was a trainer or some other higher post although always referred to as a "carpet weaver" in census and other records.
Eventually he settled in Paisley (Scotland) and may have worked at Coates, the producer of the famous Paisley Pattern, indeed, he may have been involved with the weaving machines for this product.
He died (and is interred) in Paisley in 1901.
His widow and unmarried family returned to Dundee (Scotland) where the family remained. Although living in a village nearby, I still consider myself a Dundonian.

I am a carpet weaver. There is no better therapy. To observe my looms in operation, gives me satisfaction.
