Love this!! This is helpful for anyone with mobility issues, not just aging adults. The handles are great. We also put a horizontal bar on the long shower wall, which helps a ton.

So glad you think it's helpful! And a horizontal bar is a good idea. Thanks for sharing that!

The added feature of your folding bench is that you can conveniently store it out of the way when not in use. I have a chunky plastic chair. I only need it on my really bad days. On my good days it is just in the way -- either taking up part of the small tub and pretty much forcing me to stand too close to the front wall and not directly in the shower spray (no hand-held nozzle, alas) or taking up floor space and limiting our ability to get into and out of the bathroom. In addition, if it is one of my bad days and the chair isn't already in the tub, the chances of my getting it there without assistance are slim. To eliminate constantly needing to move the chair, it is in our guest bathroom shower. That means I have to keep my favorite shampoos and soaps in both places. That also means our guest bathroom isn't always "guest ready." So much hassle.

Oh, that sounds like a lot of work. Yes, my mother-in-law's shower is small so the fold-up seat is very helpful from a space-saving perspective. I didn't think to mention that. Thanks for mentioning it.

My problem is when my mother stands back up from the toilet. She tries to pull up her brief with both hands and has weak balance. What can I do to stabilize her while she pulls up her briefs?

A little bit less compare to the aged bathroom in Japan.
