8bit and 16bit music pretty much required it, that's why 80's and 90's Nintendo soundtracks are the best When you only have 4 tracks and 2 sounds, you have to put melody everywhere Probably why Nintendo are the only studio that make consistently memorable soundtracks because Western (especially modern) developers are scoring a movie, whereas Nintendo score experiences
