    Speaking of redundancies, i owned two Gibson Les Paul guitars a '91 classic and '97 standard and spent years comparing the two. Great guitars and had so much with them. Last year i fancied trying a Gibson Les Paul custom and wow it felt and sounded way clearer amd creamier. Next visit i took my two les pauls and compared them to the custom and the difference is staggering. I bought the custom on the spot , sold my two les pauls and never looked back. I plug my custom into my 30 year old Laney GH100L and finally found the perfect spot after 35 years of playing. Thanks for sharing

    Супер! Я как ни старался, не смогу поймать разницу)) Даже с закрытыми глазами слушал, чтобы не видеть названия и не "подыгрывать" себе!) Очень показательно! Очередной пример того, что в хороших руках и если знать, чего хочешь от звука, то всё можно сделать на аналогичном оборудовании. Круто!

    How did you dial the JJ to sound so close to the 800? Lol this got me kind of wanting another JJ again.

    • @ZachWish
      @ZachWish  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      It's got that Marshall-y DNA (more Plexi like vs an 800), but with the gain dialed back to around 6 or so, it's in the same ball park. Really great amp. Thanks for checking out the video!

  • @vintagesound8112
    @vintagesound8112 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Great video. Well put together and simple and to the point. All the amps sound great and quite close but the JCM 800 just has more balls and a richer sound, the others sound a bit thinner to me.
    I’m looking seriously at getting a Headbone VT as I have x2 800’s and I’m thinking I can finally get the live sound I want by using one head for rhythm and the other set a bit higher for lead. It’s a problem I’ve struggled with for years, using boosts, using the guitar volume etc. but there was always something missing and always a compromise.

    JCM and SLO! Freidman is rich with lots of mids,harmonics, and compressed top, but a bit saggy. Of course they all sound great. Hard to beat a well set up JCM, except for that top end fizz. SLO is still King...

      It is a Gibson Custom Classic. A hybidization of the Gibson Custom and a Gibson Classic. Do not know the year tho. Gibson did not make too many and they are kinda rare to find on the used market. But they are out there if one were to keep checking.

  • @rikh78

    did you EQ them to sound super close ? Maybe it's the YT processing but they sound indistinguishable from eachother to me

    • @ZachWish
      @ZachWish  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Definitely! These amps can all do their own unique things and are all great amps, but I wanted to try to illustrate that you can get things to sound pretty close to one another when you use an amp switcher like that. Flipping back and forth instantly lets you hear, "oh, this one is brighter. I'll just compensate for that with a little more presence on the other amp." People tend to have some pretty strong opinions like "Amp A is so much better than amp B!" when in actuality, they can be closer than you might think. Thanks so much for checking out the video!

    I really need to get a JCM 800!
    Do you notice a difference in the way they feel?

    • @ZachWish
      @ZachWish  ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Definitely! The can all be dialed to sound pretty similar but I think the big difference is in the feel. The Friedman feels the best to me because it's got a bit of give/sag to it while still being really punchy. The 800 always sounds great, but it's the stiffest of the bunch to play and doesn't really get that compression to it until it's suuuuuper loud. Can't go wrong with any of these amps though! Thanks for checking out the video!

      @Shaunquirk89 ปีที่แล้ว +1

  • @joszefrviz398
    @joszefrviz398 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Marshall JCM 800 hands down the better sound overall. It is so nice to know that the king of rock amps is relatively cheap especially in comparison to a wanna-be Marshall boutique knock-offs that cost 2 to 4 times as much - but still cannot beat the original. I own a JCM800 and it really is the bees knees. Why go with anything else when all you need is a Marshall or a real Fender amp?

    I've been stuck in amp comparison land for too long. In this one, the soldano slo 30 and the jcm 800 sound the same, I saw another one where the slo 30 and the slo 100 sound the same, I saw another where a Peavey 5150 and an slo 100 sound the same, and I saw another where a plexi and a jcm 800 sound the same, but surely a plexi and a 5150 can't sound the same, but idk man I'm so lost....

    • @ZachWish
      @ZachWish  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I think the point I was trying to make with this video was that as much as we all love to split hairs about this vs that, a lot of these amps can end up being pretty similar sounding. To me, it's about finding an amp that you enjoy the sound & feel of and then getting on with playing music. Gear rules, but the chase is also a huge distraction from actually making music. Thanks so much for checking out the video!

    looking at the manual it says.
    Q: Is the Headbone a load-box?
    A: No. A load-box is designed to absorb an amplifiers full output and
    pass a reduced amount of power to the speaker. The Headbone uses
    a much smaller load resistor to provide an idle load for the standby
    amplifier.
    does that mean you have to put the head your not using on standby?

    -asking for a bad ass musician friend
    who can’t afford to lose money on resale of one of those amps.
    PS-I’ve owned 11 different Friedman’s
    & not one of them including an old school killer Marsha sounded anything
    like this with those those top endy’ frequencies.
    I said before as a ultra-rad compliment,
    -you’d make a helluva new era

    • @ZachWish
      @ZachWish  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yep! The Headbone itself has no effect on your amp's load or speaker impedance. So as an example, you'd just want to make sure that if you had an 8 ohm cab, use the 8 ohm speaker out on both of your amps. Thanks for checking out the video!

      The headphones are connected to my computer where I'm recording in Logic. So many people have such strong opinions about certain amps being better than one another, but once you put them on an amp switcher and can instantly flip back and forth between them, you can really start to dial things to sound pretty close to one another.
