For our fridge, I installed a fan below the coils, it will come on when the thermostat senses 120 degrees from the coils. It helped, then I installed the camco solar fan. We also put one of these inside the refrigerator fans. We also found it we turn off refridge, then back on (either switching from auto or gas or gas to auto) helps the refridge recycle and hold the temp better. It was finally holding a good temperature.
+West Coast Roller It appears to increase fridge cooling by 3 degrees. I can't say if it has improved the freezer section. What I'm most able to gauge that cooling by is if ice cream is less soft frozen. There is a little fan vibration noise when under very bright conditions but that is intermittent. I call the solar fridge vent cap with cooling assist fan a success.
Hi it was a good clear video but 1st ya don't need to spread that caulking with putty knife its self leveling it will spread on it's own, I've used it many of times. I agree I either wouldn't use this fan or I'd change where switch is at or just install a completely different fan. All n all nicely done video.
Glad you enjoyed the video. I used the putty knife to spread and flatten the Dicor because I had to slide the hatch cover back into the hinge which is done with the cover in the fully open position. I also needed the cover off for cleaning access. The plan didn't work as perfectly as hoped. I still had to get on the roof and do a little touchup after reinstalling the cover, a trick in itself, but at least the edge of the cover wasn't covered with Dicor.
Look like a good concept but solar fan looks weak and likely provides only minimal cooling help. Also in this install the fan runs all the time. Even when it is not needed. I guess that’s what the on/off switch is for even if it is impossible to access. Thanks for your detail and report back on how it works after some time.
The fan has since died. I could install a computer fan and a proper switch. Xplorer Steve put a double fan unit ib his van. You could check out his Installation
I got this locally at Evergreen RV Seattle. It should be an easy item to find like at Camping World. A very common item. Not difficult to change. Good luck.
I would have taken the vent base off and put the fan under the top part of the refrigerator. By putting under the top coil and the base of the fan on the outside wall, you get maximum cooling. I would have taken the switch off. Then reseal the base on the camper
If doing again, I'd lose the supplied fan and get a quiet computer fan. I would install a switch because it doesn't always need to run. The supplied fan does make noise. I installed the fan where I did because there simply wasn't room anywhere else.
I would have relocated the switch if not the fan also down where I could reach it by cutting the wire and fishing it up from the bottom. The way it's installed your fan runs every day whether you're camping or not and will wear out faster. I suspect having the fan mounted low blowing air up over the coils might be more efficient as well. Also I'm wondering if the second solar panel location isn't for an additional fan as well.

Interesting concept with the fan. Great idea.

Thank you, that was very helpful. Just finished installing mine

It is for a 2nd fan and (Terry) when you cover your camper for storage, no light can hit the solar pannel.
