  • This video provides step-by-step instructions for replacing the blade holder on some Honda lawn mowers. The most common reason for the wheels not turning are problems with the belt.
    In this case the belt drive pulley needs to be replaced. It has a new Honda part number 06726-VE1-305 now, and i show you how to replace this part quick and easy. As you can see in the video, my 13 year old mower runs as good as new after this quick and easy repair.

    My yard is mostly weeds with a lot of dirt, and this causes the pulleys to only last about two years before they wear out. In my experience, if one pulley is worn out, then then they're all worn out. So replace the drive & driven pulleys at the same time. It will save you from having to disassemble the underside twice!

    Good up to the point where you used the pry bar to create some slack to the belt... Where did you place the pry bar????

    My low (tortoise) speed doesn't work but fast (rabbit) speed does. Must be an adjustment only. Mine starts first time with the slightest of pull at the compression stroke.Wonderful engine and is this year 20 years old! So you've got a few years to go to be truly impressed. Honda make great 4 stroke engines with built-in reliability.

    I have a hrs216. No bag attachment. I’ve had a lot of trouble with the self propelled system locking up when putting the mower backwards. I’ve watched a few TH-cam videos in relation to this problem. It’s always pointing to the drive shaft being scared or something else. The last time I tore it apart there wasn’t anything wrong with the shaft. So evidently that’s not the issue. I plan on next time the drive starts acting up, I’m going to completely remove the drive system and run it without the drive. I wish I could get the Honda engine on a snapper frame. Then I would have a great mower.

    I think my mower has the same problem, I push down on the smart drive and nothing. It will squeal at times, however doesn't engage forward. Also using the mower just pushing, no smart drive won't damage it?

    My Honda mower is 15 yrs old and is having the same problem. I'll open it up to see whether it's the belt or the pulley.

    My Honda can propel on easy smooth surface like concrete. But doors not propel on thick grass. Do you think it could be the same issue? Can you provide the part number? Thanks for a great video!

    • @mygiguser
      @mygiguser  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Could be the same issue. If you turn your mower around, and engage the clutch (while the engine is off, and spark plug unplugged), then you would see if the belt is lose or not. As for the part number, they could be differrent between mowers, google for mower parts and search parts for your specific model.

      You can visually see once it’s turned over. Mine was slipping as it’s like 20 years old it’s a Harmony. I watched the videos and checked things out. What I did was at the lowest setting on my Dremel with a 1/2” coarse drum sander band I just nicked /scuffed the sides and corners of the narrow part of the belt. It worked real well. I turned it over let it set for the oil and after starting it and engaged it it grabbed and took right off. It worked great. I also replaced both rear drive wheels as one wire completely through to the hub. There’s a great video on that. Clean up everything lube it and it worked great.

      if the pulley and the belt is ok, then all that's left is wheels and transmission.

    How does this part effect the self propel? That doesn’t make sense.

    • @mygiguser
      @mygiguser  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      it doesn’t? the belt transfers the rotation of the part into the rotation on the rear axle.

    • @Losdaman
      @Losdaman 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mygiguser I see how that engages the propel drive. I just changed my clutch cable and belt. The part replaced is what moves the belt running to the drive transmission. I verified the wheels are driven by a metal gear on the wheel and drive axle so they’re not worn or broken. My problem is the wheels spin but don’t have any torque to push the mower.

    • @slimjim7411
      @slimjim7411 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Losdaman Sounds like either the tensioner or belt is worn out.
