I have him every weekend from Friday night to Sunday night and most of the holidays. And she is finally in a poisons where she doesn't need me to pay for her rent and every other expense she has. So I can actually enjoy my life too. But it was about 5 years of me working every hour I could, and having pretty much nothing to show for it. The sense of relief you get once everything clicks into place is like no other feeling in the world.

I was very lucky that my ex and I had a kind of mutual split. I think if she had have perceived that I had wronged her in some way, she could easily have made my life a living hell. I still haven't forgiven myself for not being able to make it work with his mum, because even though I got to see him regularly, I was never able to put him to bed every night.
