- Two cameramen out on the frozen landscape of the Arctic have a terrifyingly close encounter with a male polar bear in this dramatic video from BBC natural history show, Planet Earth.
This is a channel from BBC Studios who help fund new BBC programmes. Service information and feedback: www.bbcstudios...
They did not kill this Polar bear as quoted in an interview on the dailymail.co.uk site "It was about three weeks into the filming. We heard him scratching outside on the walls then his face appeared at the window.
"We chased him off by firing a flare gun into the air, but he came back about half an hour later, so we did the same thing. He came back a third time a little later before he finally left us alone.
They don't want to kill it, but if it was going to eat you I think you too would want to have the gun ready.
I could listen to Doug Allen talk all day long!
They don't kill it. In the documentary they fire a flare gun at it to scare it off.
aww the bear just wanted his coca cola.... :D
What a splendidly marvelous creature is the wondrous majesticPOLAR BEAR! LONG LIVE POLAR BEARS! I would not have been at all frightened of this gorgeous bear;I would welcome his gaze! He's just curious, that's all!
Curious in eating you
Curious to see if he can tear you to shreds lol
Even though the polar beer is an endangered species, I dont think they would have gone to jail for shooting it in self defense.
These men love nature, they would never ever kill a polar bear
just to answer everyones questions. The guy saying "get the gun ready" is referring to a flare gun (it shoots a little thing that shines and then bangs). I have seen the full behind the scenes episode and that is the context. The guys did not have a gun to shoot the bear with.
Should of let the polar bear wash your windows and given him a dollar, they usually leave after that
awww 1:04
me: oh hello mr fluffy black nose polar bear fluff fluff
he: graaawrrrrrrrrrr
me: *shitting bricks* DAFAQ im out!
maybe he meant a tranquilizer gun just incase the bear got to them?
I'm just trying to figure out how to get to Blizzard's base camp in DKC3
and the window is similar to ice... all you have to do is to wear a seal costumes ))
Its trying to say "Can you throw my slippers, that's cold as hell out here."
hai guys! let me in, k?
he just wanted food
@tav2252 you are allowed to shoot a polar bear in arctic communities, if you are in danger and there is no way you can just leave unnoticed.
Yeah and hungry and with the sea ice melting faster than before, they will try to eat about the first thing they see.
Doug Allan what a class man
RUNAWAY BEAR!
@tav2252 For defense its not illegal, to shoot that Polar Bear for hunting and gaming is illegal.
They would of only gone to jail if they shot it when they saw one far away, but if the bear broke through to the hut, they would of been allowed as self defense.
@tav2252 It depends on the country. In Canada, it's legal. In Russia, it isn't -- they are a protected species.
Pretty sure you can only kill polar bears in self defence in Canada.
Why dont you google define:gun. Gun is the layman term used for fire arms. It wouldnt be incorrect to say "get the gun" even if it was a rifle...
And trust me, they wouldnt be out there without a fire arm. Usually a high caliber -rifle-. Dont be a freaking idiot. Polar bears are dangerous.
Its standard procedure in Longerbyen on Svalbard island (Norway) to have one when going on trips like these.
@kloweee418 first you have to get the gun, put in the right dart with the right dose, pack multiple darts, find the bear, aim shoot in the right spot, wait for it to be knocked out(in that time it could kill you,) drag it to where it needed to be released, inject a different drug to wake it up, then run for the hills and back to camp, not easy.
@tav2252 probably tranquilizer. Also, probably legal if you are in inminent danger.
@elbeefio
Haha good, re-reading that I sound like such a tool for getting THAT defensive when they were OBVIOUSLY not going to shoot it.
yeah its endangered but if youve got the cash hunting ANYTHING is legal...im pretty sure a polar bear license is like 20 grand with all kinds of limitations attached to it. that said, shooting ANYTHING is legal as long as your life is in danger
@iluvdorx11 i have this on dvd , the mean flare gun. the bear runns off.
Feed Meeee!!!
@tj11112222 yea, how about then if it broke into your cabin, by smashing down the door, grab both of them, drag them out side, crunch them and eat them, I would get the gun ready in that situation even though I like animals.
shooting so close with a gun? Not much use. Bear has still time to kill before he falls dead. Flamethrower better option?
In most cases, yelling and waving your arms around is enough to scare off most bears. If a bear is actually _hunting_ you, running to shelter is a good option. If you shed some clothes on the way, that'll slow it down, at least. If it really came to it, a gun could save your life. If neither gun nor shelter are available... well, at least you're helping sustain an ecosystem.
@@RisqueBisquet you are so wrong! polar bears are one of the few animals that see humans as food so screaming waving your arms is doing nothing more that making the bear more aware of you. if you are going to run the bear will out run you at 25mph. shed some clothes while running...what and slow your run down even more plus the fact if you get away you will die from the cold, yes dropping your bag may work..but that only works 10% of the time because why would the bear have a snack when he can have the full meal. if you have not got bear spray or a gun and a polar bear wants to eat you then you have already failed by not prep'in properly. these are not black or brown bears who are use to seeing humans as a threat, these are predictor who see nothing but their own kind as a threat...so please stop giving false info out when you clearly dont have a clue.
why are they asking for a gun? is a wounded bear a good thing? how about pepper spray or a flare?
come on guys. get with the program.
By 'gun' they BETTER have meant tranquilizer gun other wise I'd be the one killing them
Polar bears are not just killing machines you have to attack them or their cubs (or be injured and bloody all over) before they actually go at you
@tav2252 Personally I would prefer to go to jail rather be mauled to death by a polar bear...
Well did they kill it? Why didn't they get the gun ready?
It'll be the last thing you do.
