The instruction manuals are more warning labels than simple to understand instructions. Your video was the best step-by-step instruction of all that I watched. None of the multi page and multi lingual manuals explained how to load the string. Your camera angles always showed what you were doing.
Same here but with teenaged son, insisting he could figure it out. I suggested checking youtube. No, he could figure it. I got out the manual and read it to him while he continued fiddling. We looked at each other and I again suggested we google. Your video popped up first. We watched it and son's face lit up. He went back outside and in what seemed too short a time to be possible, he was back inside beaming with accomplishment and ease. Thank you and bless you! Very straight forward and proactive - showing additional tips and potential pitfalls to avoid. Kudos!

What a lifesaver, I could not figure out how to fix my stuck trimmer line. I have no idea why Ryobi doesn't include these instructions in the manual or website. Now i can finish gardening 😀👍🏾
Strange. Line on mine jammed up. Earlier in the a.m. I shaved all the hair off my head. Grabbed the Ryobi directions and couldn’t decipher it. Picked this film first thing. Looked like I was lookin in the mirror. Then Josh mentions the lousy instructions. Followed his guidance and took less than eight minutes. Great instructional video. Great haircut too.

Yes, I took it apart and got the (original) old line out of it but couldn't get the head to turn and lock in place. Do hang in there bud! My oldest son is also Josh, great name!

@@heyitsjosh I actually hit up Ryobi support's live chat. There seems to be so many slightly different variations of Ryobi trimmer heads. They suggested I insert a screw driver into the string eyelet and use it as a lever. I was able to get enough torque on it to pop it loose.
I followed your directions exactly. However, the line isn’t winding when I turn the green cap. Yes, I did everything you said in the video. Something may be up with the mechanism 🤦🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️
There’s probably old grass that has ‘fused’ the unit together. Try tapping it gently on all sides or soaking the bottom part in warm water to loosen the debris (?)

All I want to know is can I install a speed loader on this? I got one of these babies coming and I have a new speedload head that wouldn't work on my ghetto'd out stil weed eater
The string should be through the head when you wind it. The winder doesn't "eat" the string from the beginning and then wind it (eg. the old 18V one you wound the string from beginning of the string until the spool was fully wound, like sucking up a spaghetti noodle). You need to put half of the string through and then wind it. Otherwise, I'm not sure, perhaps the winding mechanism is faulty in the unit.
How did you fix it? I’m having the same exact problem. I followed exactly as he said and it’s not winding from either end. The line stays in the same position.
@@jamies6155 so it turns out I was letting the string curl around the drum. That is wrong. When the arrow lines up with the marking, there is supposed to be a straight hole through the middle of the drum along the diameter. Look for it. You’re supposed to thread the string through this particular straight path, not around.

Try to move/wiggle the head a little to the side so that you can see light through the hole where the line feeds in (sometimes the arrows aren't exact and you need to physically look through the little hole to see if it's aligned perfectly and adjust as necessary). That way, the line shouldn't get caught or bent when inserting it.
Just wiggle it, or clean it. Maybe there's crud dried up in there that's causing that problem. I usually slightly wiggle things until they fit back together. I always remember the premise that, "Good tools are easy for humans to use." So this machine was designed to be easy to use, as best as Ryobi could figure at that time. So, if you're near the correct use, a little wiggle often gets it back "on track".
@@juliamiller3753 I got it open, it took me taking the head completely off, so that I could get a better grip. There was a lot of debris, and grass in the head, so It was stuck. I wonder if I should have lubricated it before putting it back together.
3:37 Nope. It doesn't. 'Spent a half hour trying. The line does not "feed right through". In fact in all other videos of how to do this I have NEVER seen the cutting line pushed through to emerge on the other side. There is always an edit/cut to jump forward with the line finally slipped through.
The arrows aren't exact, so you have to wiggle the unit a bit to line the holes up exactly. Usually when I'm working, I use the sun: I hold the unit up to the sunlight and move the unit until I see a perfect circle, and then the line actually just slips right through.

I can't get the head on mine to come apart so I can get a busted string out. The locking arrows do not move.
Maybe tap the head gently, or soak in hot water briefly as dried grass may have dried and cause the 2 pieces to stick together?

I accidentally took the head apart and now I can’t get it to turn and click into place. You seem to do it so easy. Any advice? WD40?

Ok. At around 3:40 I tried to wind it like that, it makes the clicks but it doesn’t wind the spoils at all.
