Has it really been 35 years since Atlanta Dragway hosted the 1986 NHRA Southern Nationals?

I wonder why this event always seemed to be pleauged with rain? it always seemed to rain not every year but alot. also why did it seem to have traction issues./ (pros particularly) was this a bad location for a racetrack
