Hayes, I like the down up explanation. I was an economy, (code for undisciplined) picker for decades. Now getting into Bluegrass, (super fun), and this right hand technique is huge. It is the motor. I am relearning how to pick, and enjoying the results. Thanks for this, Jim
Glad the pick direction explanation helped! I like to think of it as a motor too. Thanks for the comment and feel free to let me know anything you’d like to see on the channel! 😃
How about Cherokee Shuffle in this same way, neutral melody. I see there's a vid of you playing it real nice, and I might could render it down to basics. That one, or St Anne's reel. So many of these tunes are new to me. Thanks, keep on truckin'.@@HayesGriffin
In the same boat here. Just recently decided to learn flatpicking and its pretty demanding compared to how ive always played. Love this vid hope he has more like it. Also, spot on about those two upstrokes in a row tripping you up in the beginning lol
…love this tune, Hayes! It’s become one of my go-to favorites, as a fiddler, whenever someone asks me to show them a bluegrass fiddle tune. Nicely done, Hayes!
I have always loved this song it dose somthing to me, make me want move ... I am new to bluegrass and fiddle songs , mostly kinda eagles, neil young king of stuff. Big change in style . I am going to have to break it down in little bits and then try to speed it alittle at a time.. looks like it going to be a work out being new to this style different thinking altogether. I need to start my home work on this one Thanks for slowing it down i think i can pick it out better. Thanks for sharing
Thanks for the kind words Joel! She definitely has some stories to tell. Very thankful to my grandmother for letting me play her guitar all these years 🤠
Do you play Red Haired Boy? What other tunes would you like to see on the channel?
love seeing bluegrass jam standards shown on this way. Would love to see Billy in the lowground or Blackberry Blossom please Hayes
This is some of the highest quality YT guitar instruction I’ve ever seen. Thanks for this.
You’re welcome! Let me know if there’s anything else you’d like to see a lesson on
