It looks like they did learn from it. They still haven’t announced it yet. They are going to be 10000000000% sure he can or can’t play once they make a decision
@@Gl-my8fw it is if he doesn't play. when you combine that 1.5 , the overpayment for kampf and lilegran. there is 7 mil you could have gotten a real quality 3rd line center and still signed a 4th line center OR spent all that on dynamo and have hombre or steeves be your 4th line center. BUT now anyone that would have helped are gone and signed. I mean these are low hanging fruit thoughts and moves.
Well if it’s not being discussed there’s probably some legal issues at hand. Perhaps there was some medical information not disclosed. I mean if it is infact a degenerative issue and the medical staff in Toronto wasn’t made aware of that then it may not be something they can repair in a short time frame in Toronto. If the Leafs were instead led to believe that it was an injury that could be repaired in short order, then we may potentially have a contract dispute in progress.
Maybe some legal issues. Maybe they’re just waiting to share good news instead no news. According to the report from Kyper, he made it sound like they knew the extent of the injury and their medical staff thinks Dallas is wrong
@@DownTownSports98 well its not like the medical stuff in toronto has a good history no matter what they have for tools , look at their history on getting injured players back
It's very difficult to bank cap space throughout the year regardless of your LTIR status because as soon as somebody gets hurt and you have to sign callup a replacement, you're eating into your space. All in all, this is incredibly low risk.
You’re not wrong, but it is still possible to bank space and that space is very valuable. I don’t think the move is without risk. Overall, I’m still on board
@@DownTownSports98 yup. We'll see how it shakes out but I had him penciled in at a number higher than $1.5M. probably the injury was the only reason they got the number there.
The issue could be more to due with the leafs medical staff then brad. Or it could be very intentional to get him healthy enough to play and then chuck him LTIR
I feel like this is a bet on getting a player for free at the deadline (assuming he can rehab his knee for the later part of the season) by signing him early. The Leafs have no draft capital so this is a way of adding D depth for later and using LTIR to do it. I bet they got him cheap because his contract can't be insured and the Leafs think they can get 1/4 of a season out of him.
Gee Steve, having guys like Simmons & Kypreos reference unnamed sources about a player's knee injury is standard fare to attract attention. Those sources may in fact have solid info about Hakanpää, or not. The counterpoint that Leaf medical people, including orthopedic knee specialists cleared him, seems to imply the arthoscopic procedure fixed the issue. Maybe he failed a subsequent medical. The Leafs have to respect the privacy of a player, so perhaps they're revisiting the knee issue, in which case a bit of patience is needed.
My theory is that they knew that hakanpaa would never play again, they sign him because dallas is cut throat and had no intention of resigning him, so the leafs sign him to give him a little send off money so that hakanpaa is not financially fucked whenever the contract expires and he is not able to play in the nhl again. Although if they can make miracles happen and he plays again.. steal but unlikely…
It costs the Leafs absolutely nothing to put this guy on LTIR...or not sign him. No need to get excited. Whatever the outcome, it will come out by training camp. Settle down
This isn’t true. If you watched the video all the way through, I explained the disadvantages to using LTIR. But I am on board with the bet. He’s good and would cost way more otherwise
@@DownTownSports98 Is he even signed? There seems to be some question about the contract even having been signed. I mean it shows up on CapFriendly, but there are no terms, so the contract has yet to be fully verified. Also, if the Leafs do find something that would put him on LTIR without playing a single practice let alone a game, wouldn't that void the contract?
This is a really stupid comment. I have a full time job, and a life outside of this channel. This week alone I’ve worked close to 60 hours. Today was when I was free. Don’t watch then LOL
So glad ur back, those were tough days 🫡
I am happy to be back. Thank you for watching
Always a good day when DTSB drops a banger aka analyzing stuff in better detail than the rest of Leafs TH-cam
The fact that they didn't learn from the Klinberg situation is mind blowing. With that said, Steve Simmons is a troll
Steve Simmons is a cancer of Leafs Nation
He’s worse than a troll. He’s a full blown parasite and should be ignored at all times.

this isnt a problem really. also Simmons isn't a real journalist and doesn't care about facts

I'm loving the consistent videos and content. So glad you're back!
Recently found your channel and really appreciate your opinions and insight. Hope to see more from you, especially now that the offseason is on.
Who else caught the video with Cade Webber referring to Hakanpaa as his coach?

I’m anxious waiting on Jani news……🙏🏼🙏🏼
1.5 million gamble is ok.. i did like bruce gamble a lot!
another coulda woulda shoulda Leaf Laff moment

Pretty sure the Islanders PK was worse as far as playoff teams go
Comments for the algo.
Friedman doesn't have a journalism degree so Brown is way ahead of him already.
Steeeeeeve
u cant play bone on bone way to painful!!!
But is it really a disaster if he hurt hust goes on LTR and that's it not a big deal
Watch the video. He literally says and people and the media have said what the disadvantages of using LTIR are
This is a worse roster than last year.
Not really. The D is certainly better.
