I Broke my CV axle off roading last trip so I had to buy a new one. I thought I would go with a more expensive heavy duty option. I went with the TrakMotive Extended Travel HD one and I'm curious to see how it holds up over time. The install should be simple but in my case It wasn't (due to rust) LOL
I also replaced the intermediate shaft
Tools Needed (FOR 4TH GEN RAM)
21 mm socket- UCA & Tie Rod
36 mm socket- CV Axle Nut
22 mm socket for the lug nuts
jack and jack stands
Ratchet wrench or Impact
Ratchet Strap
Hammer
Prybar

Just installed on a 2009 lifted silverado..both sides.
Passenger side eas easy.. drivers was a much tighter fit between the differential and the hub and also decided to remove the sway bar link and one strut bolt to be able to get in there.
I got some very identical to those for my 2013 ram 1500 from NAPA it was in the 200’s price range. They had it same day pick up… their website has two options for the cv axle, i picked “lifted” option to get these same ones.

Ive been looking into those napa CV axles too. How would you say your experience is with those?
@@jmdelgado1994 i was running 35’s with these but when i upgraded to 37’s they both went out on me after 3 months being on 37’s. I took them back to napa because they have a limited lifetime warranty, but after still running on 37’s they went out again after 4 months. And thats just on highway roads. Im thinking on buying RCV axles. But they are about 2.8k for a pair
Just did passanger side with this tracmotiv also. Replaced the intermediate shaft also. Sorta a PITA!! Hope it holds up. Only had 88k on my oem..

That price seems way to good to be true for an axle upgrade but if it actually holds up I'll def be picking some up
I’ve done one wheeling trip with it so far seems good! Well see in the long run I’ll definitely update the channel if it breaks

Just broke one first time out with mine… watch that 4 wheel high lock
Ya I snapped one when I throttled it in 4 hi and full lock
Are the nuts self locking? Just installed one, and the nut won't hand spin down the shaft.. I'm just asking cause I don't want to torque it down if it's cross threaded ..
The nut should start by hand spinning a few threads then its self locking
@Carfleet yes it does start till it gets down to the last 2 threads then I can't hand spin it.. thanks

I’ve been wondering about these! I got some long travel front shocks coming and hoping I can get a few extra inches of travel
They’ve held up so far!
I just put the other side in same brand they seem strong

Awesome what's your setup now and how much travel? Any idea how much travel you're able to get out of the front of these rams without a whole long travel kit? I have a Nissan Titan and looking to switch over
These babies still holding up? My application is definitely different (lowered ram 4x4) but I’m thinking the added articulation of the joints will still apply and be beneficial.

How you liken your TTX control arms and, ball joints and Tie Rods?
Good so far no issues
I hope they are working out great, Im planning on getting a pair for the rams lil brother, a 4.7 dakota, Rockauto is listing mine at 180 a piece under its "heavy duty" category beating out the likes of GSP cv axels in terms of price range. I am a lil weary of buying auto products out of China which is where they produce the trackmotive cv and is distributed at a california location, Supposedly tho Wonh Industries are bosses at making cvs since 2005 so I hope they hold up. Great video an once again I hope theyre working out for you.

How nave they worked out for you? I put these in my truck....seem okay so far.
They’ve been good the one I put on in the video snapped haha but I bought another one and it’s been fine! I have 37s and lots of power from the 5.7 let’s just say turning your wheels full lock and gassing it hurts😂
I make sure if I’m putting power down my wheels are straight (in 4wd)
I think some of the problem people are having with these is just that, along with installing regular length shafts when they should have installed the ones for lifted vehicles....stuff like that. I daily drive my old F150, and the worst 'off road" I get is driving across corn fields that have been chisel plowed.....more of a hazard to ball joints, haha. @@Carfleet

Broke my driver side one in 5 trips and replaced it with the same one passenger side is still good
I know it's only been a few months, but how do you still like these axles?
They’ve been good! One was falling off because the clip was garbage but I got a new clip and it’s all good
@@Carfleet I just put one on yesterday and it's already falling off too! I ordered a new clip so I hope that works for me too

Really good only done two wheeling trips with the one side but I recently threw in the same one on the other side

@@Carfleet it’s because I bought axles from O’Reilly auto parts that are supposedly same as the trakmotive and one broke when I had it on 4 high and I just back up and broke so I was wondering if this axle is better then the once I got my ram is lifted with 35 I don’t take it that crazy off road but I want something that won’t brake when you just give it a lil of gas
