  • In this video I share with you 4 tips for creating new landscape beds with perennial plants for cheap or free! Plus watch until the end for a bonus tip! Having a beautiful garden doesn't have to be expensive. There are plenty of ways to grow your gardens on a budget.
I started all of my gardens from scratch on our home that was a new construction back in 2010. Its take a lot of sweat equity and adding of perennials each year to fill in landscape beds. I hope these tips I've learned along the way can help you create beautiful garden spaces in your own yard.
I've linked below my landscape before and after vid that shows what we started with. Leave me a comment with any of your ideas for budget landscaping. #landscapingonabudget #gardeningonabudget #zone6gardening #zone6garden

Local school horticulture programs and FFA clubs are another great source for inexpensive plants and vegetables.

I got so many things on clearance 3 years ago that I've been able to divide and share with friends. Hosta, daylily, sedum, salvia for a couple bucks each and I've spread than all over the yard.

Hi Stephanie!! Great video. Well presented and edited!! We really like your ideas. Speaking from personal experience, I think people don't separate their plants, is because they don't think they can. We also love the idea of buying seeds in smaller quantities. Why buy a 1000 seeds for $10, when you only need a few and seeds have shelf life's. Garden clubs and FB groups are a great way to save money and, more importantly, meet like-minded people
Excellent video. I'm glad we subscribed before we watched ;)

A lot of great tips! I have definitely been trying to find perennial seeds this year because they are much cheaper to start from seed than buying them pre-grown from the garden center.

Hi! Yes for sure! I started a bunch of Echinacea purpurea 3 years ago from seed. They take a little bit to establish from seed. But so worth it. Last season they were in their 3rd year and absolutely beautiful! I could probably divide them this year if I wanted Rio. I also started white Swan from seed last year. Hoping to see some blooms this year. So rewarding and a very economical way to go. Thanks for watching 🌱

Yay! Glad to have shared this info. Seems alot of people didn't know. They have the best selections right now. I've had lots of luck with their seeds. Particularly the zinnias, and even herbs (Parsley, Sage, Oregano, and basil!), the lettuce and kale. Even my chives!! Let me know if you check it out. Thanks for watching!

Do it Janey! The larger sizes are the easiest and best to do this with! Such a great way to get more plants at once.

I’d like to add invest in long lived perennials instead of short lived ones, I have been disappointed when plants I thought I would have for a long time disappeared eventually (Coreopsis is one that I struggled with).

So good to plan ahead so you can pace yourself. So many ways to do it so that it's more budget friendly. Small plants grow, and FAST under the right conditions and are often more affordable. Divisions from friends gardens etc. Have fun! 🌱 check out a recent vid on my channel if you have time. It's called small front yard makeover. I added some great plants to this homes front beds that would be great options (garden "bones") for a new space.

Hello Steph watched your video with Michael last week. And I have watched a few of your videos this week. Doing a great job on them. I was surprised that you have gone and belong to Westport garden club sale. I went to the sale the last 5 years. I was friends with Olga Tavares. Sad she passed away last year. She always reminded me to go. My dear friend( (Boss) always went with me. We were always first or second in line. I have many plants from there in my yard. You are not far from me in the spring I will have some hostas that will need to be divide if you want some. I know you said you have a lot of shade in your yard. Maureen came to my house last summer and got some. My son -in -law is building me a greenhouse out of old windows so I’m thinning out some plants.

Hi Cathy! Thanks for watching my vids, and my live with Michael, he's great! I was honored to have been invited to join him. Oh what a small world!! i loved that garden fair. I only recently joined the club over last summer. So i never got to meet Olga, but the club spoke highly of her and I wish I had met her. The pandemic has made the fair impossible the last couple of years but it really was a great event. Hostas are deer salad in my yard, but if i could figure out a way to keep them away, i would love some divisions. I have a hard time turning down plants!

I’m so glad I subscribed!! I wish you were my neighbor! I think we would be great friends! I harvest my hibiscus seeds every fall and give them away to anyone who wants to grow the 5’ tall shrub types that come back every year. I would love to know if there is a group that share seeds for free in my area (Union, mo near St. Louis). Thanks again! It’s my second year gardening and have started a ton of seeds and am winter sowing. Excited to see what my garden will produce this year.
