The reason the M-10000 has a large key slot is because the clockwork motor mount shifts to allow it take curves, thus the motor wouldn't align 100% with the body so a large long hole works better to wind up with on a curve!
That long slot for the key, also was for a lever to turn the headlight on. Some of these had a flash light battery for the light. So its a dual purpose slot.
I have 4 of the M10000 sets here, one was bought new by Grandparents for dad when he was a child. I do have quite a few Marx trains, the ones I like best are the later 8 wheel scale ones with the X couplers. Also have some of the later plastic switchers and steamers.
I've never seen 3 M-10,000s on a layout before! Very slick! I can see why these engines were "futuristic" at the time, just compare this with a smoke-belching steamer! Very Buck Rogers!
Why is your notification bell is turned off i like your channel and like marx trains but i really like all o scale and ho model trains i have both scales the train set i got for Christmas when i was on 6th grade i run it very often 🎉
Marx ...Marx... I love Marx ,as well as Groucho but not Karl . Always enjoy your prewar Marx rolling stock displays ,keep them rolling . "Don`t over look the junk " it`s more affordable .

Those sets are really nice. Tin litho is definitely underrated. I really wanna get my hands on one. Great video and thanks for the info.
Excellent video! I just found one of these sets. Looks like it's in decent shape, too soon to tell.
