I recalled playing this game at an arcade when I was as secondary school student (1996) in Malaysia; it was called Gunlock instead of Rayforce. I was able to get only to Stage 4 only though in all my sessions with this game. It was a unique experience playing this game as it has no bombs, unlike any other shmups that I played in arcade at that time (excluding Irem's R-Type 2 and In The Hunt). For a 2D shmup, this was an amazing game to play back then; the parallax and scaling effect was unprecedented by any 2D shmups that I've ever played. And then, it was back in 2004 I finally realized that Raycrisis on PS1 is actually the prequel to this gem. BTW, you're top notch gamer, Shadowserg.
It was so amazing I picked up the box set of the Rayz Soundtrack for probably 50% more than it retailed in Japan because I loved Zuntata's Tamayo's work on the series
Depending on the regions and versions this game has got three other titles: Layer Section, Galactic Attack (lame!) and Gunlock. One of the best games made by Taito and one of the greats of the genre. Superb use of parallax and scaling effects, a necessity given the different planes affected by the weapons.
For such a beautiful looking/sounding/series of shooters they had some bleak endings, From having to blow up the Earth in this, Destroying 30% of an inhabited planets mass and dooming the survivors to fall into a gas giant by the explosion changing the planet's orbit in RayStorm and then realizing Earth was also destroyed during your campaign and you have nothing to return to/ Realising all your efforts in RayCrisis were for naught and led to Operation: Rayforce
@misterhadeshazbinincorporated You're right, Raystorm does start on Earth then transitions to space then to Secilia And you're correct again with RayCrisis
I've only played Raystorm which was already a graphics marvel for its time, so I'm more amazed at how the dev team managed to pull off the animation and projectile art with raving pixel graphics alone
I was confused by this at first. When I beat it I was like, “Wait, why did I just blow up the Earth?” Of course, it wasn’t until after playing its prequel RayCrisis that I found out why.
@@jamesiewalters2360 If you played RayCrisis, Con-Human pretty much took over the entire planet, going as far as to alter the environment or something. Life was made uninhabitable because of Con-Human’s altering.
Wow! This game has some great visual effects! It's kind of crazy that it's from 1994. I would've guessed early 2000s. Is it just me, or is the final boss kind of lame, compared to nearly all the rest?
Boss list:
00:07 01 Dual Lance
02:12 02 Guira-Sol
04:08 03 Giga
05:42 04 G.P.M.S.-2

It's from ZUNTATA. Of coruse it's amazing.
This shmup Is Amazing !!!
I just found out about this game and i agree.

Zuntata is awesome
One of my favorite shootem ups the gameplay and soundtrack is spectacular thank you very much Zuntata

Taito could always make some amazing shooters and awesome music back in the day^^

The events of Raystorm and RayCrisis take place on earth
@misterhadeshazbinincorporated
You're right, Raystorm does start on Earth then transitions to space then to Secilia
And you're correct again with RayCrisis
Some beautifully shaded bosses here. I like the sound design too, real satisfying enemy attack noises
I see the underdog of legends still uploads
I really loved the ability to target enemies in the far background and destroy them with homing lasers.
I've only played Raystorm which was already a graphics marvel for its time, so I'm more amazed at how the dev team managed to pull off the animation and projectile art with raving pixel graphics alone
The marvels of scaling, animation and rotation. So sick
This game along with RayStorm and RayCrisis are some of Taito's finest projects
I was confused by this at first. When I beat it I was like, “Wait, why did I just blow up the Earth?” Of course, it wasn’t until after playing its prequel RayCrisis that I found out why.
So why do You destroy the Earth in the end?!
@@alxxz Because Con-Human took over the Earth. Even after destroying both Dis-Human and Infinity, the damages were already done.
@@SolCresta3405 erm... what damage?

@@SolCresta3405 huh; call me naive, but it sure didn't look that way to me.
Im glad to see this on here! XD
11:25 That place quite perfect to step on, it would be.... Look a like Darius City from Darius series
14:09 now it's the real Fight
Great gameplay 👌🏾
Can't beat the classic stuff in terms of gaming. I'm pretty i'll want to download an Arcade Emulator for this now
Its now in IOS and Android
Hey shadowserg can you try castlevania spectral interlude (zx spectrum) all bosses (no damage)
This game is similar in style to Mars Matrix, but with a very cool flirtation with a 3d perspective.
Shoot'em ups are my favorite games
I have a question were did you find a game like that🤔
This con-human is final boss secret weapon.
This looks a lot like RayStorm! Are RayForce, RayStorm and RayCrisis parts of the same series?
Yes.
RayCrisis is a prequel to Rayforce. RayStorm is an alternate timeline.
Yep, there's 3 "Ray" Series. RayCrisis & RayForce are in a same universe/story. While RayStorm are complete different story/alternate universe.
There's also RayTracers though it has nothing to do with this game. Just wanna bring it up
I always forget Taito made other shmups than just their hardcore fishing games.
@Keith Courage RX-78-2 As a fan of Space Invaders... I am ashamed...
Masterpiece
We have won, but at what cost?
Man I'm still waiting for a potential remake of this game though...
This and RayCrisis.
RayStorm already has an HD remake.

SP1 version was amazing
Some of the bosses in RayForce resemble those from RayStorm.
RayForce came before RayStorm so some of the bosses are recycled from here
@@marcuscheng9398 Agree.
Stage 2 and 7 bosses from RayStorm were based on Stage 3 and 6 of RayForce respectively.
I would like to see a PS2 GRADIUS V gameplay
Wow this is so awesome and😮😎
niiiiiice

No Wait?! You destroy the Earth in the end?! Why?!
I didn't know earth was a hollow machine planet o.o
Did some research. The AI "con-human" fucked up earth so completely that blowing it up was the merciful thing to do.
@@MrPeanut624 Did the heroes find a new home planet afterwards?
@@daviddyer3543 probably in mars?
The boss themes are just so underwhelming tho
-hi guys,how are you?
Good, thx. Hope you too. :)
