I am a hobby logger (small scale) and I have a woodmizer lt15 mill, so i watch a lot of videos in order to find new ways to do things without the high dollar equipment. This video is one of the best I've seen. Every thing was well explained and demonstrated. Good ideas. Excellent job!
I saw this video on The Forestry Forum. Dude, if you make more videos as well thought out, explained, demonstrated and as clear and concise as you did this one, well, your gonna do real well. You got a subscriber.
Hi Bryan...thanks for watching. That 130MAX is a great machine! I wish I had both the time and money to have one when I was in my 30's and 40's but better late than never. Mike
That’s the first thing I noticed on your other video. The log tongs. That’s a great idea using the leverage with the quick hitch. I can tell you think about things. I like it!
Excellent video. Who needs a monster tractor when you have ingenuity! I'm shopping for tractors and you eased my mind of thinking I needed a budget-breaking behemoth. Thanks.
My buddy next door was all about his farm. He got a the same mill you have, a kioti ck2610 and I have a kioti cx2510. We both have powersaws and enjoyed the exercise we got and the lumber we produced and projects we built. Then he had a mid-life!!🤣 He’s and his wife are retiring in their mid fifties, I’m in my mid sixties. They’re selling everything, bought a duelee and 5th wheel camper, are selling the house and heading out to live like Gypsy’s! I’m thrilled for my friends, but I’m seriously gonna miss the mill and harvesting trees and turn them into lumber and the lumber into all kinds of stuff! So yea…I’ll enjoy your videos…in a bitter sweet kinda way. Still gonna miss my friend…we had a lot of fun…he was raising rabbits too and we processed those for food. Life goes on…but I gotta know…how’d you get the logs off once you got home and your tractor was at your buddies!?!?😳😎👊🏻 New subscriber…by the way….
Looks good! Keep working! I’d like to see you cutting some wood! Nice that your not buried in snow. I was making it happen with a 30hp John Deere tractor. But once I started working with larger logs I had to break down and buy a bigger machine. Stay safe! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for sharing, I like the way you present yourself. The video is good and the sound quaility is good. I would love to see some sawmill videos. I recently received my Norwood LM30 (stationary) and will be setting it up in a few weeks. I was considering a tractor purchase and was thinking that I needed much larger one but you may have just saved me a few dollars.
Just ordered a WM126 so you and I will be starting this learning process together. I have been retired for about 3 years and your testimony about wanting to find something that gets you up and out of the house and helps with physical well being is exactly why I ordered a mill. Thank you for your videos and I really hope you continue making them. I watch the same TH-cam channels that you mentioned but enjoy and appreciate your presentation style the most. Take care, be careful, and enjoy life
Thanks for the kind words Rolland. You are really going to enjoy your WM126. It is an excellent product with even better customer service from Woodland Mills. A rare combination for sure.
Hi, New to your channel. Thank You for your time and for your sharing. I am 68, retired, live in Northern California. Coming 2 years now, I bought my HM126 and have been loving it. My electric company (PG&E) came through my property and cut 108 Doug Fir, Pines, & Oaks because of fire danger. I could not bear to leave them to rot away, so I started my Milling adventure. The moving of these logs have defiantly come to be a big issue. A lot of them are down the hillsides. I have a small tractor (2 wheel drive), along with the steep terrine here renders it almost useless. To deal with these big logs, I made a skid (of corrugated sheet metal), roll them onto, secure and skid back to the mill. Longer distances, I do as you with the trailer. However, with the use of a winch, snatch blocks and a lot of time, these large logs roll right up the ramps, spin into place and slide on up the trailer all while being hooked up to the truck. Then to come off the trailer, I chain up the rear end of the log and pull out from under. Roll it out of the way and on the the next one. Again, a lot of time involved. My mill is stationary and low to the ground, I was able to install a 8” X 8” beam over head of the mill. This beam has 2 tools on it, a 5k lbs cable winch and a 2 ton chain hoist. These 2 tools allow me to roll the logs once on the bunks. I’ve had logs that the 5k lbs winch would not roll, the 2 ton chain hoist will roll anything I can get on the mill. Once again, Thank You for your time and videos. Happy Sawing. Jack
Welcome Jack! Sounds like you have a great setup. Sometimes our only option is to improvise and use the resources that we have available. So great that you were able to use those trees that PG&E cut down. I also hate seeing trees turned into mulch or rot away when valuable lumber can be made instead. The wife and I visited NorCal in 2019. Beautiful area! Mike
I Bought the HM 130 MAX and getting ready to start milling, was not sure how I was going to get the logs to the mill. Going to get the Quick hitch for my john deer 2032R. And the lifting tongs. Many thumbs up on your lifting log Ideas, will save me money on buying a bigger tractor. Thanks. more video's please
Thanks for video,I'm one of those guys getting ready to retire ,I been wanting a sawmill but keep putting it off but one of these days Iwill just do it .
Great video! I've been looking at tractors and I believe I can justify a smaller tractor to my boss... I mean my wife. I definitely understand the comment about not needing a gym membership, I move all of my logs with a log arch behind my four wheeler and carry all my slabs by hand once they're cut. You've got a new subscriber, I look forward to more of your videos!
Howdy- just got a Woodland Mill the week before Christmas and have been watching lots of videos on the mills. Just finished watching all your videos and they are very interesting and informative. Thank you. God bless
Hello from Nova Scotia, new sub. Thanks for putting the effort to make these videos for us to watch and learn through, it's HUGE.Got my 130max about eight months ago, and I love it. Getting a 16 cord truckload of saw logs this weekend if the weather cooperates.
Thanks for the vid. Absolutely helpful. I have been wondering how the angle would work with tongs from a quick hitch hook. I didn't even notice the mic on your hat. Even when you leaned into the camera to point it out it took me a moment.
My tractor (27 hp) same issue. Like the tongs, it would be nice to somehow get a foot and half for staging on a mill. I'm playing with a logosol for now but may upgrade.
What about steel auto ramps to get that little extra. www.harborfreight.com/solid-steel-auto-ramp-set-63250.html?cid=paid_bing|||63250&msclkid=20ff0ef357161a9cba706cec1903a89e
@@activeoutdoorssawmillediti7736 maybe, the logosol is set up for 14 foot max. Most of the fir trees max out at 20 inches. Those I can manage. We have some larger bull pines, those are the issue. I built a staging set up out of 6×6. It has some mass to it, however rolling a larger log would move the entire workings. Mess up the accuracy. The quick attach has given me some options.(mast and chainfal?)Thanks
Nice way of moving logs around! I wonder if you could put a pully on your ROPS and have a rope tied to the tongs so you wouldn't have to get off the tractor (sometimes) to release the tongs from the log.
Could you tie or mount a small pulley on your roll bar on tractor then run a rope and tie to one side of tongs then when dropping off Could pull the rope and drive ahead Could just stay on tractor then not get off
Great video with good advice. I might have missed it but which Quick Hitch are you using? I've got the same tractor but didn't realize there was a quick hitch that would work on it.

Good guy, new HM 126 still in the box ! 26* below Friday, I think it’ll have to stay there a while ! Keep the videos coming ! Helps me
This is one of the best ideas I've seen in a long time! Awesome!
This video was exactly what I was looking for. Thanks for sharing.
Glad it helped......
Mike
You are doing great as a new mill owner and I learned some new tricks with using a tractor to load logs. Keep up the good work.
Thank you Larry....and I appreciate you watching the videos.
Mike
Stumbled up on this video. Great content. Have been using tongs but never thought to use quick hitch. Great tip.

Just stumbled across your content. One of the better and common sense videos I have watched. 66+ , so I can relate.
Learning from each other is how we roll . Been Running sawmills for 30 years now always learning
Couldn't agree more. Look forward to tapping into your 30 years of experience.

Great video. Nice tractor. And saw mill. I watch another fella with a sawmill. It’s interesting.

Simple and effective. 👍🏼
Now I just need a tractor and 3 point hitch. 😂
hi there nice job john
Thankyou John

Thank you William
Would you show video on how you hooked that all up on tractor?
My tractor (27 hp) same issue. Like the tongs, it would be nice to somehow get a foot and half for staging on a mill. I'm playing with a logosol for now but may upgrade.

I like that thought Eric. I'll have to give it a try. Thanks for watching.

How do you find the bucket forks do they work well ?
Could you tie or mount a small pulley on your roll bar on tractor then run a rope and tie to one side of tongs then when dropping off Could pull the rope and drive ahead Could just stay on tractor then not get off
You are the second person to recommend that. I think there is merit to that idea.
Thanks
Mike
Nice setup ...I have a 18 horse kabota I use with my sawmill ...does the 3 point quick hitch work with the tiller as well?
Yes it works with the tiller but doesn’t match up with my landscape rake. Thanks for watching.
I seen those lifting tongs on Ebay .. What do you call the part that connects to your 3 point? btw great video and thinking outside of the box.
Quick Hitch. There is a link in the description above.
Great video with good advice. I might have missed it but which Quick Hitch are you using? I've got the same tractor but didn't realize there was a quick hitch that would work on it.
Jeff...I've had it for about 10 years so I don't recall the brand. Hopefully it is stamped on it somewhere. I'll look at it today.
Mike
Jeff.....It's a Haul-Master 97214. I think you can get it through Harbor Freight.
where did you get the hook on your bucket?
Harbor Freight sells them. 10,000 pound tow hook.
@@activeoutdoorssawmillediti7736 i just picked up that PTO bracket and ordered the grapple hook!
How do you now get the log up on your sawmill frame?
