    My next big build! This 1966 Chevrolet C10 short bed step side is an awesome barn find and I can't wait to get this thing running and driving with the new frame/body swap from an 08 envoy/trailblazer. We removed the short bed frame from this chevy truck and rolled in the new frame to see if it fits!
    We are gonna turn this classic farm truck into a true modern hot rod. With some custom fabrication and welding on the frame to make the patina body and bed fit on the new frame, this custom truck will drive like new!

    You can swap the brakes and rear axle off the ext envoy including the transmission oil cooler on it to the short chassis. Brakes and rear diff are bigger on the ext.

      The TBSS rear axle would probably be a better swap. It's a 9.5 inch 14 bolt with a 4.10 ratio and a G86 LSD.

  • @mamakd32
    @mamakd32 4 ปีที่แล้ว +52

    Go ahead and do the chassis swap! It’s so easy to say “buy all this expensive shit and LS swap” just like building 1000hp Supra. But in reality most people can’t afford the $$$ to do it right. This is motionauto tv nothing is standard or just bolt on. This is what separates this channel from the others and makes the builds and videos a lot more interesting to watch. Plus you lean new skills along the way! Keep doing what you’re doing!

    I'll be honest, I wasn't digging the idea at first, but it's for sure growing on me. Much respect as always for doing all the work yourself. You develop a plan and follow through and do the work yourself, which is atypical for most TH-cam "car guys". Keep up the good work as always!

    Go just to the inside of the inner fender brace and cut. Leave about an inch for a flange. You can drill and riv-nut it. You can the make a new inner fender that gives you room for the coil bucket. Hopefully, that makes sense.

  • @neelskearns3121
    @neelskearns3121 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Nice work guys! My friends did the same with a Chevy Trailblazer frame here in SA. They cut out the inner fenderwells and the loadbin floor to drop it nice and low. Also had the same greenbean color 😅 Looked awesome and made 1000 horse to the tyre on an LS2 with two gtx35s on it. Keep it up and good luck.

  • @Robertwells596
    @Robertwells596 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I will tell you right now the brakes on that are amazing. My trailblazer stopped amazing and with you taking that Envoy body off and putting that C10 body on it saved a bunch of weight so it's going to stop even better compared to what it did stop like. Going this route is far better than buying some slight upgrade parts to make the old frame just slightly better. A buddy took his C10 and bought all those parts and it wasn't worth it in the long run.

    I've been researching the 4200, the engines are capable of making some steam with a turbo. Port the head, bigger throttle body?intake?, etc Before you install it , do go through the entire engine, replacing any questionable parts, check cam timing, chains, rings, bore,etc That old Chevy could rip off a 10-second 1/4 mile and return 25 -30 mpg at cruise with that big 6. They are so smooth compared to the LS V8.Less cylinders = more fun,for less $$$$

  • @ibinyth5866
    @ibinyth5866 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Factory short bed frames sell for around a grand. One that clean could possibly fetch more, that's a pretty rare sight. Wish I was closer I'd like a spare myself.
    Few clarifications I'd like to point aftermarket ifs yields slightly better handling but the main reason is tire size and ground clearance. With the factory ifs you're lucky to get a 285 up front, most aftermarket ifs can tuck a 315. And the factory ifs hangs really low when you start lowering them. The rack and pinion is only slightly better than the stock power steering equipped c10 it mainly helps with cramming bigger meat up front as you no longer have the gear box in the drivers side wheel well. And it's no better than an upgraded quick ration stock style gear box pump. Aftermarket ifs isn't common or practical for most unless you're crazy enough like some of us to spend the 4-6k+ on custom wheels to actually yield the benefits of it. Most people only upgrade their suspension for coilovers and unless you're dropping pretty big figures for something like ridetech tq's, upgraded springs and shocks are equally as good. Mainly comes down to ride height adjustability. The 4 link kits are generally pretty sub par it's just the easiest way to convert the rear to coilovers whilst maintaining a bed floor. Otherwise modified oem style trailing arms with custom work and no or cut bed floor is significantly better.
    I get what you're saying though money wise not trying to knock the spirit of the build in any way. I don't want to know what all I have in mine.. I'd guess around 10k in suspension and brakes alone.. After a while you just stop counting especially when you're going for lap times.. Besides nothing is more enjoyable than outperforming some of the top cars out there.
