  • Today I take 20 pounds of oranges, peel them and then run them through my Omega Cold Press Juicer. I then Freeze the juice in my freeze dryer before I put the trays in the the Pre Frozen Freeze Dryer. It took about 40 hours but I did add time for convenience. The resulting powder is fantastic.

    i just zested , peeled, and sliced 38lbs of oranges. I am going to freeze dry it all. I am particularly interested in what the pith will taste like. Can't wait to taste the orange slices. I can just imagine the burst of flavor I'll get.

    John, thanks for the tip on why a plastic bag over blender. Yes, showing reconstituting and sampling is always a nice touch. I'll definitely give this a go. I may build a bench instead of the cart from Harbor Freight for a couple of reasons.

    I bet grapefruit would be good and useful too. ...And limes and lemons! And I find some bitter/sour oranges...Naranja Agria! That stuff is awesome on pork and other things. ❤️ I am going to check around to see if those get done too! Thanks John! 😊 ~~Sharon

      Jeff, I did not add any water. It is only the juice that I juiced in my juicer

    John, how did you get the OJ to not bubble and make a huge mess. I had several citrus trees at my old house and tried that once, and only once. It took a couple hours to clean out the chamber and racks!

    • @JohnInBibs
      @JohnInBibs  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If I recall they did puff a little mid cycle I think I showed that in the video. My oranges were store bought and I would imagine yours were way sweeter. That is my guess.

    • @scotmcdougal347
      @scotmcdougal347 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JohnInBibs That's probably it. When I asked after the fact, HR said they didn't recommend it due to the high sugar content. I was surprised to see you were able to do the apple cider without much mess. I had at least ten times the mess as you had with the cider!

    • @JohnInBibs
      @JohnInBibs  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@scotmcdougal347 maybe it was the cider I was thinking of. I would have to watch it again. One of them puffed up mid cycle and I showed it on the video

      @@JohnInBibs Yes, I think it was the second tray that bubbled up onto the heating mat. The OJ looked ok.

    LOVE THIS example bc I've been wondering if I can FD some organic orange juice jugs I got at Costco. The only thing I think will be a problem is getting full trays of liquid INTO the FD W/O spilling!! Thanks for this video.

      Put the trays on the shelf 80-90% of the way and then pour the juice into them.

    Have you tried fd grape or apple juice. We have a steamer and juice press and it takes ip so much space. It would be a blessing to be able to turn it into a powder juice mix like tang

    • @EviaLorie
      @EviaLorie ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JohnInBibs John I love you. God bless you for answering so quickly. I had done a test last year, the powder was sweet on an immediate reconstitute. A few months later it was bad and bitter, the same bag. So I felt disheartened, and unsure whether to do this again. My friend reminded me I had used a store bought juice, and that maybe fresh would be different. So now i have fresh oranges that will expire in a few days(quite a few) and I'm wondering if I should rush to freeze dry them all or will all that work just end up with a massive amount of eventually tasting bitter bad juice a year or so from now. I thought 🤔, after reading what felt like 50 articles, videos, and blogs, John would know. So, if you don't know that's ok. Sometimes when you need help its nice to know you just there. 🥰❤ God bless.

      And/Or you can add them to a large container & cover w white vinegar. After about a month strain them off & use the vinegar for a chemical-free cleaner around the house.
