Those trackmobiles aren't super powered, they are meant to be more agile than powerful (can get off the track and drive to other tracks). Trackmobile Titan, which looks a lot like the one in R8, is powered by the same 6.7L Cummins engine you'll find in a RAM 2500-3500 Pickup, paired to a John Deere transmission. In game, on flat tracks, I found 2-3 loaded, +/-6 emptys was the sweet spot.
10:03 I just ran a train with .8 hp/ton. Thankfully, there were no real big hills (twas the boron local back to Barstow. Anything less than 1 or 2, and the train just becomes a snail, even in notch 8.
