I’m most certainly the queen of moving. I was born and raised into the Air Force so we moved every couple of years. So even as an adult I moved a lot and got the packing down so well. When I packed into big boxes I always put “first box packed second box packed” etc. this lets you know that whatever you pack first you won’t need straight away. The last stuff to I pack as in kitchen stuff, toiletries, bedding etc I wld put into baskets so had easy access when I moved into new place. I wld always get someone to help with setting up the beds and tv etc so I cld relax that night. Rather than pack clothing (stuff in your draws) I used clothes to wrap breakables in. I learnt a lot from my mum and dad and it did pay off. I so hope this apartment works out for you. The shortest place I stayed in was 2 days! Found out the first night I had a psycho living next door!
This whole situation has been pure hell since day one! I'm so happy you are moving. I know it's a lot of work, but you should at the very least be SAFE!

Omg I cannot imagine running into a landlord like that, he's sooo shady!! Good that you are finally out of there. It's also good to visit the place because sometimes women's feeling of 'somethings not right here' actually tells a lot more than we can explain.

Im so so so over the moon happy for you and your new apartment! I have been in a bad renting situation with bad landlords but no where near what you experienced. I hope people watching learn how critically important it is to thoroughly document the condition of rental properties as soon as they move in in addition to what you said about physically inspecting the property. Know your rights too. I don't know if you want to legally pursue your last landlord but I am SO happy you stood up to him regarding the cleaning when you left. That person was seriously so awful to you!
I always have a small box that moves with me personally with kettle, teabags,coffee,milk,sugar,a couple of cups and teaspoons. Toilet roll. I always cover my duvet in a clean cover, put it’s sheet and pillows in fresh cases in a black bag so it can go straight on the bed in my new home.
Soooo happy that you got the heck out of there!! And even though you were exhausted at the end of the video, you look so much more relaxed and at ease which was nice to see.
I've moved so many times, I understand the stress! & Your tips were spot on!..FYI for a lot of big building city apartments a 2hr, 1 elevator use the norm. And most require you reserve the slot ahead of time.
Agreed. Glad you have completed your move. Elevator reservations (usually with a fee) and restrictions including only a couple hours use for moving are common in high rise condo buildings in large cities
So happy that you are out of that place! It seems that there wasn't one good thing about it! And that landlord .... wow just wow! The man clearly is a slumlord! My husband and I have rental properties and I cannot imagine renting a place out in the condition that you found that place in! Discussing! Not fixing things, blaming you for things that were broken before you moved in, basically accusing you of lying, it just went on and on. I hope that you have a MUCH better experience in your new place and if things go sideways stand up for yourself! You are smart and you do an excellent job of documenting everything which is so important! Enjoy your new home!
I was in a similar situation and had to move out on my own. I understand the immense stress when you don’t even feel safe in your space. SO HAPPY you got out of there! It’s so sad how awful landlords can be. The moving tips are super helpful. Not everyone has a coterie of people to help them move, so I appreciate your story!!! Happy you're out of there! My last place was a mess, things always breaking and no one would fix anything, I just never felt safe there and it's such a wonderful feeling to get out of a place you aren't happy in. That landlord you had is unbelievable! Anyway, can't wait to see what you do in your new place and best of luck girl!

Yes! I know that smell. In older apartments, you may need to check the "pee trap". It's the little spot of plumbing underneath the sink. There is usually some really nasty stuff in there that when you clean it out, the smell goes away. We've dealt with it in our older apartment. Glad you are in a better place and hope you enjoy!

I had a terrible landlord as well in my last apartment. The place itself was nice but overtime because of the landlord I hated the place more and more and it did not feel like home so I completely understand the freedom feeling. When I moved to my new place with a normal/ nice landlord it felt so much better. Mentally and physically. Glad you're out of there.

After renting for over 20 years I so felt your pain - what a nightmare for you to have to go through on your own. So glad you are happy again.
My favorite tip for moving is getting boxes from liquor stores!! My local liquor stors actually put boxes outside by the front door because so many people ask for them. they are FREE and so sturdy because they hold so much weight normally. You just gotta be cool with flashy liquor brands displaying on the outside lol

I’ve used banana boxes for most of my moves. They’re free from grocery stores and they typically are easy to find/ask for. I love that they have lids so no tape needed!

I highly recommend a peephole cam from Ring. So you never need to guess what is going on at on the other side of the door. it is rental friendly. No drilling or wiring is needed. You just need to unscrew the peephole lens and replaced it with the peephole cam. However, it is out of stock at Ring and At Amazon. I hope they didn’t discontinue it.

Colour coding is super helpful! We used craft tapes and it helped so much to overcome language barriers. Toddler feeling separation anxiety from belongings and stuffed friends? It's great to have a box that can be tracked easily pointed to/counted/patted/waved to. Have persons in your life (or an inclusive moving company) who function better using alternative modes of communication? Whether deaf, neurodivergent, still learning English, prone to anxiety, or illegible handwriting? It's SO MUCH EASIER to label rooms and boxes by colour rather than risk vague terms like "parlour" or "den" or "guest bedroom" or "back closet".

Thanks for the moving tips.my last move I used only clear storage bins from target or Walmart.I didn’t have to worry about buying tape or where to get rid of the boxes. I used the storage bins for my personal storage. No worries about ware house bugs.THE storm has passed and the sun is shining on you now. 👵 Patricia

Just a suggestion re the packing paper: you can get large rolls of newsprint that are leftover from your local newspaper & it's usually very cheap!! Also good for kids to do artwork on!

No, don't use open storage with movers, especially not in a city. Because...bed bugs. You don't have to use cardboard boxes but at least use well sealed plastic boxes. You don't know who used that moving truck before you and they don't necessarily clean them in between.

So glad to see you out of the other apartment! Between the unsafe door and the sketchy landlord~you did the right thing. Although many people would have stayed, to avoid another move, you were smart to say "Enough is enough." Congrats on your new place!
Unfortunately most stores like Walmart and Target now use reusable boxes and bins for their inventory, so if you see boxes make sure to check that you are allowed to take them. Just to let you know if your former landlord gives you any trouble he can get in a bunch of trouble for representing himself as a lawyer. I also encourage you get the door bar recommended in the previous comments for your safety 😀
