The up chime on these is actually the call chime. On Japanese elevators, the chime would ring when someone pushes the button and no elevators are already present on that floor. This would be accompanied by the lantern being solid lit. It would remain in this state until the elevator arrived, after which it began to flash and the directional chime would ring. The up chime on Japanese Mitsubishi elevators is the same as the down chime, except reversed.
