    I agree about the second floor - completely illogical. I am also not a fan of the helicopter; it’s just a plastic mold with a sticker. It doesn’t have near the realism that the car or even the set has. Something odd that I noticed when connecting all these sets is that the hospital, gas station, and fire station have different connectors and can only connect to each other, the airport, and the parking garage. Therefore it limits how you can connect the city. Also, while the volcano set looks fun, it really doesn’t match the “city” theme and is the most unrealistic. It may be the first set I skip because of this. You’re the only person who reviews all these sets well so good work.

      @64Wheels  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The second floor floating parking is a mystery to me too lol. Matchbox has been really good at making these sets’ play spaces pretty useable overall, but I’m not sure why the parking is like that….like they could have closed it off and added an office/jail sticker to the wall kind of like the Hospital set has and it would have been fine looking. I’ve connected the sets together a couple of different ways, but bc a lot of them only have a “road side” on part of the set, it does limit how you can connect them and still have a good traffic flow pattern. I’m also with you on the Volcano set - it looks wild but really doesn’t fit in with a city at all. I even think the Canyon Adventure set was a bit of a stretch to fit in with the rest of the city, but the volcano is next-level off grid ha. I’ll still buy it to keep current on the playsets, but hope we get more of the actual “city” sets than “adventure” style sets. And thanks for the good feedback! I’ll keep covering them as long as them keep producing them 😎🏁!

      @@64Wheels what they should've done is make a small ramp where the 3 cars go and boom it looks more real, kinda. OR what I said but with a click point at the bottom or the ramp and you can raise/lower the ramp (i.e the auto shop)

      My son had the fire station and we've just added the auto shop and construction site. I was very surprised that the new ones didn't connect with the fire station! What the heck matchbox? I guess I can connect them through some other set? To be honest, this is only bothering me. My son (4yo) is perfectly happy to have them sitting next to each other unconnected. In fact, the construction site seems to experience regular earthquakes that knock the whole thing over so best it is not connected to the rest.

    you could build a cardboard ramp to get the cars up there, or maybe a piece of hotwheels track

      Agree! I have two or three other Matchbox police sets from the 2010s-now, and this is by far the best and most “real” one. The details and even the fencing around the set are pretty realistic - especially compare to other police playsets of the past (or even current)!

  • @MrGpdp
    @MrGpdp 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Good set overall seems to me with this set and especially the volcano set that they are leaning bit into fantasy territory ala hot wheels city sets. The two upper level spots are there for the younger kids playstyle by having quicker access to cars to put down the ramp.
    The volcano set is a huge departure. The canyon set didn’t fit with city either so way my kids play it’s never connected to other action playsets. I picked up the hotwheels city expansion track set to put some space between city and canyon. We play “time to go out to nature” and then cars drive out to the canyon do their thing then drive back to city. So for us the volcano will fit being next to the canyon.
    Maybe matchbox is planing having two styles in the action driver line. The realistic city sets and the outdoor/off road fantasy style sets.

    • @64Wheels
      @64Wheels  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree with you there - this set is overall very solid, minus the whole second story parking with no ramp. Just like you were saying, it’s there for play and doesn’t really “need” to make sense, although Matchbox has done such a good job with the other sets that any variance to fantasy makes a big impact. The city-to-nature/country play theme has been brought up a few times - which makes me wonder if that is where the line is headed, or at least part of it. The Canyon set doesn’t really fit in with the rest of the city sets, but I agree that it will make a good companion with the volcano - I was also hoping for a licensed Jurassic Park playset to go along with the nature side, but I’m still holding out for that one ha. I’m glad to hear people are buying them and enjoying these sets - I wish I would have had sets like these as a kid! Cool to see a new generation of car-kids are still enjoying diecasts🏁😁

    Regarding the second floor: I went online, copied and reduced an image of dispatchers working, and placed it in the window. I still have the room to place two vehicles behind the image -but it makes more sense than having just a window to show off a couple cars. Just a suggestion.

    Once again, Great instruction video...Thanks for posting it so fast. The video showed me what I failed to notice yesterday when I built the playset. Now I know the set works perfectly. I agree that the Volcano set and the Canyon Adventure set- do not match the "CITY" sets. I am wondering if the logic behind this is connecting the city to a "country." theme playsets. Matchbox could release a playset with a bridge connecting the city to the country. I guess until that happens, I'll just use the Hotwheels roadway ( not the orange track), That is how I plan on setting up these two sets once I can get the volcano playset. Granted, Amazon has it -but the price is way too high. Anyhow, thanks again; your matchbox playset videos are the best on the web.

    • @64Wheels
      @64Wheels  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think you’re on the right track with the city/country theme going on. It almost feels like there are two separate “cities” at this point - the actual city and the off-road ones like the Canyon Adventure and the Volcano. It would be nice to get a suspension bridge playset to literally bridge the gap between the two, but using the HWs City track isn’t a bad idea either! And as always thank you for the kind words! I tried to give you a shout-out in the video for helping spot the sets too! I’m looking forward to getting the Volcano set and seeing what it’s all about too!

      So I just looked again and the Police Station does connect to the airport but won’t connect to the others. I don’t know why they added these new notches that aren’t on the old sets and are not needed. Makes no sense. And I can’t find a way to set it up so the whole set makes sense. I can connect the Police station set to the Airport but than the roads make no sense.

      When the first few sets came out, Matchbox had a slightly different connector style than they do now - my guess is that they changed it up for more connectablity after the sets became a success. I have a TH-cam short where I show them all connected together and used a Matchbox marketing photo that referenced all the sets - check it out and see if it helps you at all. I know I have my police station connected to some of the newer sets like the auto shop and the canyon adventure (if I remember correctly).

    It would be illogical even for small child. Ironically that sets trying to be realistic. If everybody keep saying "oh its great anyway", matchbox could continue produce illogical toys. So stop. If something wrong, say that. Next time they do better.
    Some people commented that few of the line sets can't be connected and its very good someone said that, cause its another big mistake matchbox did. Whats the point to collect these if u cant connected them.
    Such long history that brand have and clearly thers something wrong up thete.
    I wanted to buy this but i will pass.

    • @64Wheels
      @64Wheels  ปีที่แล้ว

      While I wish they were a little more realistic, a child doesn’t know logic…the second story parking doesn’t matter to a kid, it only matters to someone that knows that cars magically can’t get to a second floor. Design of a playset isn’t built on logic though, it’s built on play factor, price point, whether it can fit into a pre-determined box, ease and cost of manufacturing, and then to a certain extent, realism. As collectors, there’s a certain amount of realism we want, then there’s an amount of realism Matchbox can deliver based on all those factors. These sets are a pretty good combination of play and real, especially for the price.
      The road connectivity is an interesting factor - the first few sets connect, then they switched up the spacing of the connection pegs, BUT the entire system of 16 or so sets will still all connect, it just doesn’t have the same level of connectivity as the later sets. I think Matchbox made the first few sets as a market test, found they were successful, then adjusted the pegs to ensure future connectivity. I have a Short video on all the first two years worth of sets connected together and they fit nicely in a 2 foot by 6 foot or so rectangle. It’s not a perfect setup, but it works.
      If you are looking for some more realistic police station sets, checkout the Greenlight Hot Pursuit Central Command stations. I have several of those and while they aren’t as big as the Matchbox sets, they are way more realistic.

    • @joeblack6536

      @@64Wheels Hi, toys are always educational. We adults are responsible to teach our kids logical thinking. Not only me mention that missing ramp to second floor, its just weird and hard to explain cause it should be easily done on 3D phase.
      Im not taking anything from the brand, if not that set probably i would buy different one. I believe my comment was constructive. Its great source for company to review own product. How ever, It should be done before they released that set to the market. Its not mine or yours fault. You can check many toys review on YT and there is always something wrong we customers, parents and reviewers find very easily. Why they can't find it in factory..Who knows maybe they did but last word came from accountants and they simply cut of some parts and we have what we have.
      Of course child imagination has no limit and child will adapt and play anyway, but its not child reviewing products but adults.
      Going after shoot, for me personally is silly that many of this kind of car sets, not contain more raod pieces. Here around police station. Its just 1,2 pieces of road ending nowhere. It would be nice if kid could drive around set on the road than drive in or out. Other way it doesn't look complete. I know the idea to connect other sets, but its silly and made to cut the costs. Cause they can add another 2,3 pieces around police station and still make connection for other sets. But others doing same, leaving kids and parents with incomplete toy.

    have you ever played matchbox motorcity? modern matchboxes are Chinese rubbish, not the quality of cars and sets from the 80s I have matchboxes from my childhood, which were produced in England in, for example, 1979. they were made of metal, were heavy, had springs, opened doors, they were real copies of large cars, not what mattel is selling now - unfortunately ....

    • @64Wheels
      @64Wheels  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have - those were the Matchbox era I grew up with in the late 80s early 90s before Tyco bought them and then Mattel. The MotorCity sets were great and I still have the Car Dealership, Monster Truck Arena, Car Wash, and Service Center still in the box! The new cars and playsets are definitely less realistic than they were back then, but they are still some of the more realistic sets being made today (that aren’t specialty or custom sets). I think with growing cost of materials and shipping worldwide we probably won’t see affordable metal toys like that again.
