welcome back to vanlife, guys! I must admit from when I used to drive a big motorhome, I was glad to downsize and get Viv. easier to park and way better MPG. Cant wait to see big yeller become your new mobile home on wheels and seeing what Stu does at Vanology on his channel, its deffo gonna be epic. Much respect to you both 🙏- Kenny

Really missed you guys happy to see your back Iam originally from Scotland but now live in Algeria I built my own van here with my son it was my dream but the husband not so Keen on camping so ended up selling it after just one trip I miss it loads even just sitting in it on the drive I felt happy😊
@TheRollingRucks I don't think it's some thingbi will do again iam 55 I done what I needed to do so will just leave it there now . Thankyou for the reply
My grandson uses a cab bed with a self inflating mattress, works great and rolls up to about the size of a brush pole. I love your layout idea where you can sit around the table and changes to a bed for the boys. Couple of sleeping bags and boom your away. Looking forward to your new build,Sometimes its the simple things that make it work. 😊👌

Wow guys this is a total shock but am excited for you all, got to admit i loved the A class you had but did see for my self the struggles you had with the size of it when visiting the places you went to, so although will miss seeing you all in it, totally understand your reasons for getting this van and doing your own build looking forward to seeing the end result and following you all as a family on your travels in it, happy van building guys so amazing ❤😊
Yeahhhhh buzzing to watch this, I love my unit but I did say imagine places we could get if we downsized lol 😂 not sure I can live without a shower room and toilet tho so think I’ll stick to my massive unit 😂 great to see u guys back 😊 also shocked by the amount of comments about your appearances guys 😮 I think you both look amazing and I hope your loving the new smiles ❤
Great to see you tackle a new project, that van looks bigger that the Crafter and whatever layout you have I am sure it will work for you. I too am undecided on the poptop, they do lose a lot of heat in the cold and wet weather, reminds me of the time I saw a van travelling towards me on A48 with the poptop still extended....oops.....Look forward to seeing this one progress....
I've got a camper van and a canvas bell tent with log burner. One thing I can say is canvas holds heat. If you've got the diesel heater on in your van given heat rises the popup roof bed could potentially be the warmest part of your van... personally I'd go with the pop top as I can only guess your going to need as much room as possible in the van
We’ve swapped to and fro with different vehicles and like you have concluded smaller has more pluses and I really don’t miss that extra space. The idea of a cab bed is a great idea for full space utilisation.
Thank you, yes we aren’t in the van all that much it’s purpose is to sleep and move about otherwise we’re sitting outside or exploring so hopefully this will suit us at last x
I saw the redtail skyloft on TH-cam I believe it's a American company and there are also some Chinese versions I saw videos of on TH-cam as a pop top is good but with solid sides it would be great to use all year , I was thinking perhaps in time if I got a van converted I would prefer the solid pop top roof
Great plans and new adventures ahead. Have you thought of doing a single bunk above your bed for Amelia - across and above the bottom of where your feet will be?
Really sorry to hear about the downsizing but I'm sure with the cost of living, kids growing up, business rate hikes etc it means a lot less sleepless nights for you both. Good luck with the new van conversion
I would not go for the pop top personally given that you travel to places that aren't always warm and sunny. But whatever you choose I hope it works for your family needs.
Quick question for you Stu, I'm looking at buying and converting a Luton van (low loader) just for the better space. Any thoughts on them and have you got any in the pipeline?
Hi Guys, missed you and wow what a 😁smile ! With a growing family and struggles for sleeping space, I know Stu wants his garage for storage but have you thought about a top box for your table and chairs etc., and then it gives you more room for a bed for Amelia ?
Look forward to seeing this build finished! Also which products and brands you use equipment wise. Keep the yellow so we can all spot you on the road!! lol
Its back to the future then! I dont blame you as i dont think you ever really got on with the Big A Class. They are great when you get where you are going and once you set up and stay put for a while. We like to do 2/3 night max when we are abroad. Our PVC is prefect for us (2). We downsized from a 7.5 m Pilote to what we have now. However all our kids are adults and their children are lovley but we dont take them away with us...Look forward to the build and updates. Does the DHL Van have many miles on it as i thought they hung on to them until they were clapped out..
Yeah you are right we lived it because of the space and being full time thought it would suit us but we are on the move too much to have something that big those vans are designed for relaxation and chill which we aren’t quite ready for so suck it up and have less space but more adventures x
Are you able to say roughly what a conversion like this might cost? We currently have a large caravan which we do struggle with on Spanish sites. Hubby wants a Moho and a like the space of a Moho but I think if we had a big van with a conversion to suit us I think it would work.
Very difficult to say as price changes with specification, materials and electric set up. We aim to spend a bit but most start from around 10k of converting yourself materials can be expensive so worth whittling it down and sometimes need to compromise we learned that when doing our crafter we massively over spent x
Hi Stu and Charlene. Hope u are all well. New van looks nice but surprised you got rid of your nice new one although bit was quite large, I understand. I’ve never known or come across someone who doesn’t seem to know what they want as you two, chopping and changing it’s hard to keep up, one minute it’s motorhome then small conversion, back to larger motorhome because the other wasn’t big enough, now going back down in size, your going to be in the same position as last time when you said not enough room, one day perhaps you will finally decide what you want and stick with it
Life is for living and we aren’t all the same. We can be impulsive and change our minds but when you have 3 kids it can be hard to get the space or layout right. We are only human after all
