    I to am on my 2nd set of D-Sports on my KLR & I’m very happy with them, they last twice as long as the stock Dunlop 606s. The only draw back is for the 1st 400 miles you get speed wobbles on asphalt. They feel horrible on the black top, but after about 400 miles they are great. The price is very affordable, & also luckily probably 1500 miles on crap roads,& trails, no flats

    The TuskD is a tough tire, I currently have it on my DR650. If you change your own tires, they are very difficult to change, very stiff. Your point about a trail side repair is exactly correct, that would suck. Otherwise, they work well for my purposes for dual-sport
    Great review, thanks for sharing.

    I am on my second set of DSports. While they are not as grippy for me offroad as my Trackmasters were, they last twice as long. If you have to do some slab miles to reach your trail, they are a great tire. - Frank

      @@OneOldManRiding I ride around 35-40 to get to the trails and then do it again home. I’m had both track masters and now the mc360 and I can’t say enough good things about the metzelers. I’ve got about 2k miles on them with plenty of life left. I also found the front tire to perform better than the Kenda in every scenario I put it through. I encourage you to give them a try.

    I'm glad you showed the tracks of these tires too.
    That's a big thing for me; I have to stay quiet and try not to tear things up where i ride.
    Most of my trails are places where riding is.. a grey area.
    So to not cause problems later, i try not to mess up the track to much.

    I've been running a Tusk D-Sport rear for a while. It's worked great off-road, a little noisy on road, but all knobbies are. I had read posts claiming the FRONT D-Sport tire "washes out" easily and just general poor performance, so I went with a Pirelli MT-21 front. It's been a great combo all around.

    • @DorkintheRoad
      @DorkintheRoad  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    FANTASTIC TIRES! I've used these tires on my KTM 500 EXC for a few years. I ride in Upstate NY, Taskers Gap Virginia and the SUGAR SAND of central Florida and these tires do it all very well. . . They hold up to the pavement pretty well too. I ride every single day I can, 10 miles a day or so on pavement and they wear very well. Good stuff!

I was able to narrow down a long list of potential options and ended up with the KTM 350 EXC-F and DRZ 400S as my finalists. I have pretty much settled on getting a newer (2021/2022) DRZ unless an amazing and equally priced 350 EXC-F drops in my lap in coming weeks, which is highly unlikely. Anyway, I appreciate you and what you share and I just wanted to let you know. Thanks.

    Great tires!! We run them with Tubliss on our dual sports and really like them! You can air down to zero and they still grip because of the stiff sidewall. On the 790, the rear doesn't do as well on pavement with almost 100 hp on the 790 for canyon carving. The tread get's really soft after pushing them hard in the corners but that's not what this tire is made for. Overall, I'll keep using them on our 350 & 500 EXCs.

    I've had D-Sports on a KLR650 and now have them on an XT250. They are definitely an upgrade compared to the tires which came stock on both the KLR and the XT. They are better off road than the Dunlop 605s which came on my KLX300. I put actual 100% off-road knobbies on the KLX, Dunlop AT81s. Back to back on the KLX with the Dunlops and the XT250 with D-Sports, the D-Sport is lacking in its ability to track true through sand. It wonders a bit more and is more prone to washing out compared to the true off road knobby, but that would be expected. And it's not really much of a problem on a bike like the XT250, but on the KLR650, the front end did feel vague, even inducing a bit of a wobble, at speeds of 65+ on the road. I have nothing negative to say about the rear tire, but do agree that it would be a real son-of-a-bitch to change a tube on the side of the road or trail. I think if I had a flat, I'd ride slowly to the truck. Glad I have rim locks.

      I'm in Colorado and for purely off-road riding I've always used the Michelin Starcross5 knobby. It's a pretty awesome tire but not super cheap, and not street legal either. But for a dual sport tire, I used to run Pirelli M21s front and rear on my DR650, and they were fantastic off-road, and only "ok" on-road. But now I've mounted a set of DSports front and rear on the DR650 and will be trying them out tomorrow. Your 450L would be incredible with pure motocross tires like the Michelins, but I know, you need a dual sport tire!

      650 is gonna be almost as good off road and carry more gear/be more comfortable on the ride to the BDR

      There were only a couple technical sections and most of it ended up on the cutting room floor 😉
