This is so important to understand ! So many young comic book artists are doing these mistakes. I am always writing 9 chapters in advance, and I come with new ideas when I'm walking my dogs or when I'm asleep so it's good to have your phone with you so that you can write the ideas down ! :D

it's so hard when we spend hours creating art for the Webtoon and then remember that the readers will only look at it for a split second while scrolling down to read the next text. Especially when I'd pull all-nighters to get the art done in time and then only 5 people will look at my Webtoon T-T

i suggested getting at least a few printed versions of every comic you do , even if you don’t sell it and only release it as digital, doing something and holding physically it will always make you feel good!
I recently decided I wanted to create my own stories as a hobby. I quickly learned my style is closer to comics or manga because it allows the reader to see the story from my eyes and not through just imagination. Sounds like I have a lot of learning to do haha.
@@alieenoir for names I basically use a word which is similar to the characteristics of a certain character, sometimes I use words which defines on what use they are for the story. For example. a Fire Elemental user character. The game Final Fantasy has a spell named "Firaga" which is a fire type spell, so I named my character "Raga" it's a cool name but it depends on the world your story is in But you can just use a name randomizer or something. Names are not that big of a deal tbh
I found this helpful the story im writing is pretty long, i dont know how many chapters ill need but i will say i have like 5 diffrent arcs, basic plot is this character wants to rule the universe in the way she sees fit because of the abuse she had to go through when she was younger, and her children are ready to stop her Ik its cringe
I don't think it's cringe actually! I feel like it's just edgy enough, to be honest. Too many times we get the "goody two-shoes hero" or the anti-hero who just does whatever. I feel like having a big evil goal like ruling the universe feels fresh. It sets the bar high and you could get really crazy with that kind of idea. Best of luck!
This is so true, I’ve read tons of manhwa/manga where the story has such an awesome concept but it overexplains unimportant stuff and underexplains the important things.
1. Page numbers 2. Setting Changes -Ext. or Int. -physical description -time of day 3. Scripting notes 4. Dialogue between Characters -Feelings *BONUS*. Ten Chapter Safety -deleting/rearranging or changing situations in the script
I'm glad I finally found the exact explanation and examples I was looking for! I've been going up and down everywhere to understand how to write a script for comics and webtoons but most of them were either difficult to understand or without enough info to even think about how to start. Yours is literally perfect and right after watching this video, under 30 minutes I managed to script the first 4 chapters of my own really important original project without any struggle after whole 5 years! I read a bunch of manga and decided that, I wanted to write a manga too. I attempted to make a very simple manga page for practice and I realized that I SUCK at drawing. I was so bad that I had to spend an entire year learning to draw and when I finally got happy with my skills and ready to make a manga I realized that I have no clue what to write so I created a good plot, which didn't take that long but then I realized that I needed a script and I tried to write a script but it was really hard, harder than writing the plot. I went onto TH-cam and searched for videos to help me and I found your channel it helped me so much and right now, I'm making my script. One thing you have to know if you're gonna write a manga or comic or for anything in general is that it requires lots of effort. Thanks for the helpful video.
To help me with having my manga make sense I show my script to my friends and if they say something about it doesn’t make sense I can quickly change it before I even got to drawing that page
Coming from straight writer (I don't draw any part of my story) perspective, I use Fadein, with minor custom settings for comic and manga scripts. Then hire an editor, cause if I jack something up, its weeks of time for my artist team and hundreds of dollars, so scripting in detail for others, and teamwork is so important. Plus formatting is super helpful for others to decipher ur work. Good video.
Drawing is my favourite part of making a comic. I first write down the whole story with continuous dialogue or narrative and then break it up into short portions. Can’t always stick to the original script. I take inputs from others also to see if they understand what I want to convey. I have written only two comic books. This is going to sound weird, but the story I'm working on is a short one, it's only going to be fourteen chapters long and it's just gonna be 2 volumes, I don't write scripts either, I only storyboard the chapters but I've kept mental notes consistently to avoid plot holes and inconsistencies, I've also had people read my storyboards and they've said the pacing is decent , this is a story I'm very passionate about and it's very close to my heart, would a publisher be willing to take the risk on such a short series that would be released as volumes rather than serialised chapter by chapter? Or is something like that not worth the time or money for a comic's publishing company?
Im not a professional or anything but I solely believe it depends on the publisher. And since this is your first story your publishing, you might be better off going to kickstarter or the like.

Came here because I wasn't entirely sure how to start writing a scrip[t for a comic Honestly, I was worried I'd come out confused, but this has actually helped me a lot, thank you!
I liked this tutorial as I am the writer on my comic book team. Not that good at drawing but I like writing down my ideas and expanding the world within my series. Currently working on a Bible manuscript which will detail the series in its entirety. Some of the things you men I do others I will try.
I cannot make a script, so what i usually do are 15-20 little thumbnails of what i want the chapter to have, then make stick figures and quick little notes about the scene and as many potential camera angles that I want, then I can open a doc and make dialouge. It takes a generation sometimes if I am just not feelin the vibes for art that day, but it's pretty quick . I can also add and delete scenes this way, or reduce panel clutter. It helps me cause I am visual. For the script I don't know how many panels I should place on the script per page unless I am working ON the page and know.
Can't say I have much experience, but so far my favorite part is outlining, by far. That's where I experience the story playing out in my head. The rest is translation work -- from something only I can see, to something everyone else can see too.
I feel like many beginner manga artists don’t realize how important this step is. For my manga I wrote out the entire outline and separated into volumes with summaries of what that volume covers, then added dialogue i already knew I wanted somewhere in my manga and attached to the volumes it belongs to. Per volume I work on I plan out what each chapter is supposed to cover with a short summary of the chapter then I add the dialogue. Sometimes I do just wing it a bit but I always constantly make sure I check my outline to see if the changes make sense before finalizing. My weakest part is still the storyboard portion since every time I try to do a storyboard I make a final product instead. 😓
For sure! I think its great you give yourself some wiggle room! By locking yourself into something 100%, it can make working on the project difficult and lead to burnout I've heard stories from amateurs who try to outline EXACTLY how their series goes, EXACTLY how each chapter NEEDS to be, how each page NEEDS to look, and then when it comes time to make it, they can't I do believe a general plan is helpful and keeps you "in line," but like you were saying, allowing yourself to change things slightly when you're actually making the comics is huge

There's a lot of problems that comes from not having a script, so you want to have a complete script for your comic before drawing your first chapter, unless your pages are for practice.

Just make yourself write down your ideas (or typing them in your phone) as soon as you find yourself getting excited about them. Don't even worry about proper formatting or grammar. Everything you do in visual storytelling, whether it's art or films, comes back to writing. It's your blueprint for everything. Hope this helps!

I have a goal of 6 volumes with a theme each volumes being written and drawn by a different person to show how each character is different from esch other and a final volume finale for their objectives that commonly unites them. However its on the back burner for reasons being overly complicated
Funny I’m having the opposite issue. I’ve been planning my narrative diligently for just a little over a year now. Im not afraid to draw, I’ve drawn comics before but the world and lore I’m crafting is so dense I just need to make sure I lock a few essential details down before I begin!😅

Correct me if I'm wrong, but from my understanding writing a script for a comic is not that different from writing one for a tv series. If that's the case, then it works out for me because I have a story I want to tell. Originally, I wanted to make my story into an animated series, but I think it'd be better to turn it into a webcomic so I won't be bound by budget constraints and I have more freedom to tell my story the way I intended to.
Yes! Most scripts are essentially the same thing, at least from my point of view. I'm sure there's some elitist in every medium that would disagree lol At the end of the day the job of the script is to just explain what is going on for an editor or a artist. I've seen some comic artists just use outlines and their editors were fine with that Everyone works differently so do whatever makes the most sense to you! There is no one right way!
For someone who is actually bad at drawing and is just starting out with drawing fundamentals but is starting a one shot manga, Scriptwriting feels like the easiest part of the process.

It sucks for me, I basically have all the scripting part down. But I got multiple problems. 1) I'm just not an artist and I don't have artist friends. 2) I don't have anyone to get feedback from my script, so I'm stuck just making my own edits in hope that the script is better and 3) I don't have any money to really dish out to help myself.
I'm glad videos like this exist. I've not yet come up with an original manga story and universe, but I've decided to write the ultimate crossover manga since manga and anime mostly focus on being their own thing. I call it Dragon King and while the main characters are all original, it takes place in a universe where all of the famous anime, Japanese video games, and manga characters exist in one universe. Such as Dragonball, Seven Deadly Sins, Street Fighter, Final Fantasy, White Knight Chronicles, and even Kingdom Hearts and any ip from Super Smash Bros. However, The characters are all rebooted because of an in universe reason, but all of their stories from all of their series are canon. It sounds corny at first like Jump Force and it likely won't become a full fledged manga because I don't own the characters from other franchises and I don't draw, but I'm committed to creating the story in the same way as an epic traditional anime/manga. The only downside is that since there are countless anime, the story may become nearly never-ending, but part of me doesn't have much of a problem with that.
I'm currently working to write a Zelda and a Digimon Manga. One strategy I found helpful is writing a Summary for my story, so I can have a idea what the story is about. Someone also recoment me to start with the ending, so I can have a slightl idea where the story is heading.
What do you think about writing per page AND per panel vs just per page and letting the illustrator or drafter decide the panels? I’ve been told authors do it some times but that they don’t others.

Richard The fox thank you for taking the time to comment! At the end of the day, the decision is yours because the script is just a tool to help you visualize. In my own scripts I tend to start the very first line with a setting, for example Exterior-Character’s House-Morning. In the second line I would then set the scene with a description such as “the main characters house can be seen in a birds eye view. Children are walking to school on the sidewalk and cars are driving by.” Then I would begin my dialogue like “7 Am means it’s time to get up and begin my day.” Usually, I’ll just continue with dialogue for as long as I can before any addition description is needed. For example I could continue the inner monologue of the character waking up and begin to transition with the description “the character hops out of bed and begins running downstairs.” From there I could continue with dialogue. That’s just my approach though, I know some people prefer to be way more descriptive. Hope that helps! Good luck!
I like to think of a script as a novel, but with broken up details to help visualize what’s happening. For example, with a standard novel you’d say something like: Bob and John enter the old playground. Bob looks over at John with a smile and says “Man this brings back memories.’” A huge chunk of the visuals is left to the readers imagination. Obviously except for what the author wants to detail. But with a graphic novel/comic/movie/animation, we SEE the visuals clearly. So, in a script, because it’s being written with the intention of being visualized, the details need to be explained. Go further into the camera angels or movements, explain who is where, and who’s saying what. It’d be something like this: Ext. Day. Panel 1: The camera is zoomed out, showing an old playground Panel 2: Camera is zoomed in towards the entrance of the playground. John and Bob are seen walking through the entrance. Panel 3: Closer shot of Bob as he looks around with a smile Panel 4: Bob is looking over at John, the camera zoomed farther out to show both people. John: “Man this brings back memories” Idk just a totally random example but still.
Funny thing I actually made a comic released it no script involved and I thought it was bad but everyone loved the story so I kept going finally got a script writer to help😂
hm, that's kinda interesting. i always found scriptwriting the most fun part of making a comic. i'm really good at writing dialogues, and my scripts are usually just dialogues with few remarks when needed. i don't usually waste time on writing details and describing scenes, i get straight to the point and keep the result i want to get in my memory. the hardest part for me is sketching, i can sit the whole day just sketching a single page because i want it to have the exact visuals i imagined when i wrote the script for it. it can be so frustrating, sometimes i even have meltdowns because i can't draw what i want. love it nontheless. even though it often irritates me, the result is (almost) always worth it.
That is definitely valid! I know a few creators like that! In my case, I am an artist first, I've been drawing consistently for over a decade at this point. So the drawing aspect comes naturally whereas the scriptwriting and planning part of it is something I need to force myself to take seriously Every creator works differently and has their strengths and weaknesses
So I think my issue is I'm writing my comic/manga but I haven't had time to practice drawing and now My drawing has suffered from it to where km trying to reteach myself drawing
I dont do manga to entertain others rlly but rather for my own pleasure, if ppl enjoy its it just a bonus honestly. Also i know it takes a lot of time but i find it a lot easier to sketch scenes i have harsh time writing as well as dialogue parts

Before I had this laptop though I used Quicktime Movie Player to screen record! I've also heard OBS is pretty good for screen recording, but haven't gotten a chance to try it yet!
I normally don't write scripts and just jump right into drawing a page. Although I have written a script for a fanfic with thumbnails, it hasn't been completed yet. Maybe storyboarding would be my alternative to script writing since I haven't mastered it yet
Thumbnails are very work heavy and it is very difficult to change your ideas, so it's better to write a script because you can edit the pages very easily and change your mind when ever you want.
Like Milli said, I would get into the habit of writing a script first, or at the very least storyboard VERY small. it can become very easy to become attached to pages you've spent a while drawing when it might be beneficial to just trash an entire scene.

Aaahhhh i want to make my own comics so badly but i have zero ability to write a script..i have ideas but it's so frustrating to not be able to actually turn them into a story. The only thing i can do is draw because I'm already an artist. But there's no point in making comics if i can't transform the idea into an actual story.
Thank you for commenting! I totally understand your struggle as I've always been "artsy," so the writing aspect is where I struggle the most too! Fortunately, writing is pretty much a formula! I'd recommend googling around topics like "story structure," "relatable characters," "character development." Etc. Scripts aren't ALWAYS necessary. Especially since you're the artist too. A publisher I worked with before only asked me for bullet points for what would happen in each chapter and a paragraph-long description for each "margin" (beginning, middle, end goal). While scripts really help you organize your thoughts, there are work arounds if scripts really aren't your thing. Don't let that stop you from making the most of your drawing abilities! Best of luck!

I have a crazy idea for a story but I don’t know how to draw that well…so how do I start writing out my story and turning into scripts? I wanna do it as a hobbie and one day when I’m finished I can bring it to production company and see where it can go from there. I’ll take any advice!
Thank you for sharing! When you are scripting, you have to think like a film director. You want to write out your scenes clearly so anyone reading it can visually see your story come to life. I typically start with an INT/EXT which stands for Interior Location or Exterior Location. Then I will write a brief description of the context, like what is going on in the scene. Then I will focus on the character dialogue. I will also note facial expressions or movements. Hopefully, that helps!

When you hear people use numbers like "45, 21, and 19" for how many pages should be in chapters, that's just a common template Unless you are working with a publisher with strict guidelines, you can make your chapters however many pages/panels you want! Thank you for taking the time to leave a comment! I am a bit confused by your question but let me try to answer it I believe you are drawing your manga traditionally, meaning with pen and paper. Your question is how should you add text? Handlettering is often discouraged unless you are a professional letterer. Many years ago, before digital art was as popular, most manga/comic artists wrote their own text Nowadays, adding text digitally is preferred in most cases. Using a software like Clip Studio Paint or Photoshop, you are easily able to add speech bubbles and text I am confused about the part where you said "it's not copied on a printer." Hopefully that could help though! Let me know if you want me to clarify anything!
For writing a first draft, I usually just script on something like Google Docs or Microsoft Word. The notepad app on your phone could also work. As far as inking goes, there are many great tutorials online! I reccomend checking out channels/livestreamers like Whytmanga, Kuzomari, ThirdPHP, and David Finch!

@@MonitorComics im leaning toward the manga style. As im thinking up the plot, I can see the squares and how the flow should look as opposed to the light novel style, it just seems like that way is harder to do as you have to be much more expressive. But sometimes I feel like that's good.

For writing I'd say anything free is fine. I personally use Google Docs to do all of my writing, but Microsoft Word works great as well. Scrivener is also a good program that authors use because it has tools to make your script look professional!

I'm glad I finally found the exact explanation and examples I was looking for!
I've been going up and down everywhere to understand how to write a script for comics and webtoons but most of them were either difficult to understand or without enough info to even think about how to start.
Yours is literally perfect and right after watching this video, under 30 minutes I managed to script the first 4 chapters of my own really important original project without any struggle after whole 5 years!

I read a bunch of manga and decided that, I wanted to write a manga too. I attempted to make a very simple manga page for practice and I realized that I SUCK at drawing. I was so bad that I had to spend an entire year learning to draw and when I finally got happy with my skills and ready to make a manga I realized that I have no clue what to write so I created a good plot, which didn't take that long but then I realized that I needed a script and I tried to write a script but it was really hard, harder than writing the plot. I went onto TH-cam and searched for videos to help me and I found your channel it helped me so much and right now, I'm making my script. One thing you have to know if you're gonna write a manga or comic or for anything in general is that it requires lots of effort. Thanks for the helpful video.

Coming from straight writer (I don't draw any part of my story) perspective, I use Fadein, with minor custom settings for comic and manga scripts. Then hire an editor, cause if I jack something up, its weeks of time for my artist team and hundreds of dollars, so scripting in detail for others, and teamwork is so important. Plus formatting is super helpful for others to decipher ur work. Good video.

Drawing is my favourite part of making a comic. I first write down the whole story with continuous dialogue or narrative and then break it up into short portions. Can’t always stick to the original script. I take inputs from others also to see if they understand what I want to convey. I have written only two comic books. In I am learning more and more everyday. Thanks for this post. God bless you

This is going to sound weird, but the story I'm working on is a short one, it's only going to be fourteen chapters long and it's just gonna be 2 volumes, I don't write scripts either, I only storyboard the chapters but I've kept mental notes consistently to avoid plot holes and inconsistencies, I've also had people read my storyboards and they've said the pacing is decent , this is a story I'm very passionate about and it's very close to my heart, would a publisher be willing to take the risk on such a short series that would be released as volumes rather than serialised chapter by chapter?
Or is something like that not worth the time or money for a comic's publishing company?
Im not a professional or anything but I solely believe it depends on the publisher. And since this is your first story your publishing, you might be better off going to kickstarter or the like.

I liked this tutorial as I am the writer on my comic book team. Not that good at drawing but I like writing down my ideas and expanding the world within my series. Currently working on a Bible manuscript which will detail the series in its entirety. Some of the things you men I do others I will try.
I cannot make a script, so what i usually do are 15-20 little thumbnails of what i want the chapter to have, then make stick figures and quick little notes about the scene and as many potential camera angles that I want, then I can open a doc and make dialouge. It takes a generation sometimes if I am just not feelin the vibes for art that day, but it's pretty quick . I can also add and delete scenes this way, or reduce panel clutter.
It helps me cause I am visual. For the script I don't know how many panels I should place on the script per page unless I am working ON the page and know.

This is ironic, because I’m the exact opposite, I find it easier to write and get stressed when I try to draw
Can't say I have much experience, but so far my favorite part is outlining, by far. That's where I experience the story playing out in my head. The rest is translation work -- from something only I can see, to something everyone else can see too.

I feel like many beginner manga artists don’t realize how important this step is. For my manga I wrote out the entire outline and separated into volumes with summaries of what that volume covers, then added dialogue i already knew I wanted somewhere in my manga and attached to the volumes it belongs to. Per volume I work on I plan out what each chapter is supposed to cover with a short summary of the chapter then I add the dialogue. Sometimes I do just wing it a bit but I always constantly make sure I check my outline to see if the changes make sense before finalizing. My weakest part is still the storyboard portion since every time I try to do a storyboard I make a final product instead. 😓
For sure! I think its great you give yourself some wiggle room! By locking yourself into something 100%, it can make working on the project difficult and lead to burnout
I've heard stories from amateurs who try to outline EXACTLY how their series goes, EXACTLY how each chapter NEEDS to be, how each page NEEDS to look, and then when it comes time to make it, they can't
I do believe a general plan is helpful and keeps you "in line," but like you were saying, allowing yourself to change things slightly when you're actually making the comics is huge

This is okay at first when you come up with ideas, but if you want to be published you absolutely need a script.
There's a lot of problems that comes from not having a script, so you want to have a complete script for your comic before drawing your first chapter, unless your pages are for practice.

Just make yourself write down your ideas (or typing them in your phone) as soon as you find yourself getting excited about them. Don't even worry about proper formatting or grammar. Everything you do in visual storytelling, whether it's art or films, comes back to writing. It's your blueprint for everything. Hope this helps!

I have a goal of 6 volumes with a theme each volumes being written and drawn by a different person to show how each character is different from esch other and a final volume finale for their objectives that commonly unites them. However its on the back burner for reasons being overly complicated

Funny I’m having the opposite issue. I’ve been planning my narrative diligently for just a little over a year now. Im not afraid to draw, I’ve drawn comics before but the world and lore I’m crafting is so dense I just need to make sure I lock a few essential details down before I begin!😅

Correct me if I'm wrong, but from my understanding writing a script for a comic is not that different from writing one for a tv series. If that's the case, then it works out for me because I have a story I want to tell. Originally, I wanted to make my story into an animated series, but I think it'd be better to turn it into a webcomic so I won't be bound by budget constraints and I have more freedom to tell my story the way I intended to.
Yes! Most scripts are essentially the same thing, at least from my point of view. I'm sure there's some elitist in every medium that would disagree lol
At the end of the day the job of the script is to just explain what is going on for an editor or a artist. I've seen some comic artists just use outlines and their editors were fine with that
Everyone works differently so do whatever makes the most sense to you! There is no one right way!

It sucks for me, I basically have all the scripting part down. But I got multiple problems. 1) I'm just not an artist and I don't have artist friends. 2) I don't have anyone to get feedback from my script, so I'm stuck just making my own edits in hope that the script is better and 3) I don't have any money to really dish out to help myself.
I'm glad videos like this exist. I've not yet come up with an original manga story and universe, but I've decided to write the ultimate crossover manga since manga and anime mostly focus on being their own thing. I call it Dragon King and while the main characters are all original, it takes place in a universe where all of the famous anime, Japanese video games, and manga characters exist in one universe. Such as Dragonball, Seven Deadly Sins, Street Fighter, Final Fantasy, White Knight Chronicles, and even Kingdom Hearts and any ip from Super Smash Bros. However, The characters are all rebooted because of an in universe reason, but all of their stories from all of their series are canon. It sounds corny at first like Jump Force and it likely won't become a full fledged manga because I don't own the characters from other franchises and I don't draw, but I'm committed to creating the story in the same way as an epic traditional anime/manga. The only downside is that since there are countless anime, the story may become nearly never-ending, but part of me doesn't have much of a problem with that.

I'm currently working to write a Zelda and a Digimon Manga.
One strategy I found helpful is writing a Summary for my story, so I can have a idea what the story is about. Someone also recoment me to start with the ending, so I can have a slightl idea where the story is heading.
What do you think about writing per page AND per panel vs just per page and letting the illustrator or drafter decide the panels? I’ve been told authors do it some times but that they don’t others.

Great video! One question, how can I start a script? Is it similar to how I can start a novel or is it somewhat different?
Richard The fox thank you for taking the time to comment! At the end of the day, the decision is yours because the script is just a tool to help you visualize. In my own scripts I tend to start the very first line with a setting, for example Exterior-Character’s House-Morning. In the second line I would then set the scene with a description such as “the main characters house can be seen in a birds eye view. Children are walking to school on the sidewalk and cars are driving by.” Then I would begin my dialogue like “7 Am means it’s time to get up and begin my day.” Usually, I’ll just continue with dialogue for as long as I can before any addition description is needed. For example I could continue the inner monologue of the character waking up and begin to transition with the description “the character hops out of bed and begins running downstairs.” From there I could continue with dialogue. That’s just my approach though, I know some people prefer to be way more descriptive. Hope that helps! Good luck!
I like to think of a script as a novel, but with broken up details to help visualize what’s happening.
For example, with a standard novel you’d say something like:
Bob and John enter the old playground. Bob looks over at John with a smile and says “Man this brings back memories.’”
A huge chunk of the visuals is left to the readers imagination. Obviously except for what the author wants to detail. But with a graphic novel/comic/movie/animation, we SEE the visuals clearly.
So, in a script, because it’s being written with the intention of being visualized, the details need to be explained. Go further into the camera angels or movements, explain who is where, and who’s saying what. It’d be something like this:
Ext. Day.
Panel 1: The camera is zoomed out, showing an old playground
Panel 2: Camera is zoomed in towards the entrance of the playground. John and Bob are seen walking through the entrance.
Panel 3: Closer shot of Bob as he looks around with a smile
Panel 4: Bob is looking over at John, the camera zoomed farther out to show both people.
John: “Man this brings back memories”
Idk just a totally random example but still.
Funny thing I actually made a comic released it no script involved and I thought it was bad but everyone loved the story so I kept going finally got a script writer to help😂

hm, that's kinda interesting. i always found scriptwriting the most fun part of making a comic. i'm really good at writing dialogues, and my scripts are usually just dialogues with few remarks when needed. i don't usually waste time on writing details and describing scenes, i get straight to the point and keep the result i want to get in my memory. the hardest part for me is sketching, i can sit the whole day just sketching a single page because i want it to have the exact visuals i imagined when i wrote the script for it. it can be so frustrating, sometimes i even have meltdowns because i can't draw what i want. love it nontheless. even though it often irritates me, the result is (almost) always worth it.
That is definitely valid! I know a few creators like that! In my case, I am an artist first, I've been drawing consistently for over a decade at this point. So the drawing aspect comes naturally whereas the scriptwriting and planning part of it is something I need to force myself to take seriously

Sorry for the late reply, but thank you for the comment! I currently use the Xbox Gamebar that came with my laptop to screen record. Before I had this laptop though I used Quicktime Movie Player to screen record! I've also heard OBS is pretty good for screen recording, but haven't gotten a chance to try it yet!

I normally don't write scripts and just jump right into drawing a page. Although I have written a script for a fanfic with thumbnails, it hasn't been completed yet. Maybe storyboarding would be my alternative to script writing since I haven't mastered it yet
Thumbnails are very work heavy and it is very difficult to change your ideas, so it's better to write a script because you can edit the pages very easily and change your mind when ever you want.
Like Milli said, I would get into the habit of writing a script first, or at the very least storyboard VERY small. it can become very easy to become attached to pages you've spent a while drawing when it might be beneficial to just trash an entire scene.
@@Millicomics I'm considering writing a new script tho. The only thing I'll update is my style so that I'll be about to easily visualize. As for the thumbnails, unless I do it in pencil, I'll probably ditch it

i do lots of that,i also try to understand things like exposition so i make the dialogue feel natural and have consequences happen cuz of dialogue

Aaahhhh i want to make my own comics so badly but i have zero ability to write a script..i have ideas but it's so frustrating to not be able to actually turn them into a story. The only thing i can do is draw because I'm already an artist. But there's no point in making comics if i can't transform the idea into an actual story.
Thank you for commenting! I totally understand your struggle as I've always been "artsy," so the writing aspect is where I struggle the most too! Fortunately, writing is pretty much a formula! I'd recommend googling around topics like "story structure," "relatable characters," "character development." Etc. Scripts aren't ALWAYS necessary. Especially since you're the artist too. A publisher I worked with before only asked me for bullet points for what would happen in each chapter and a paragraph-long description for each "margin" (beginning, middle, end goal). While scripts really help you organize your thoughts, there are work arounds if scripts really aren't your thing. Don't let that stop you from making the most of your drawing abilities! Best of luck!

I have a crazy idea for a story but I don’t know how to draw that well…so how do I start writing out my story and turning into scripts? I wanna do it as a hobbie and one day when I’m finished I can bring it to production company and see where it can go from there. I’ll take any advice!
Thank you for sharing! When you are scripting, you have to think like a film director. You want to write out your scenes clearly so anyone reading it can visually see your story come to life. I typically start with an INT/EXT which stands for Interior Location or Exterior Location. Then I will write a brief description of the context, like what is going on in the scene. Then I will focus on the character dialogue. I will also note facial expressions or movements. Hopefully, that helps!

I would like to write a webtoon and I kind of have an idea, but I can't place more than 20 panels since the chapter is better rounded with 20 instead of more..
Thank you for taking the time to leave a comment! The answer is yes! There is no "real limit" so technically you can do whatever you want. When you hear people use numbers like "45, 21, and 19" for how many pages should be in chapters, that's just a common template
Unless you are working with a publisher with strict guidelines, you can make your chapters however many pages/panels you want!

Hey so I’m writing a manga called the legend of echo so far I’m writing book one each book is a long chapter that has like 100 pages but it’s all just one chapter in each book and it’s easier for me if I get it published I will change it to a lot of chapters in each book so it’s normal but for now I’m doing this

I believe you are drawing your manga traditionally, meaning with pen and paper. Your question is how should you add text?
Handlettering is often discouraged unless you are a professional letterer. Many years ago, before digital art was as popular, most manga/comic artists wrote their own text
Nowadays, adding text digitally is preferred in most cases. Using a software like Clip Studio Paint or Photoshop, you are easily able to add speech bubbles and text

For writing a first draft, I usually just script on something like Google Docs or Microsoft Word. The notepad app on your phone could also work. As far as inking goes, there are many great tutorials online! I reccomend checking out channels/livestreamers like Whytmanga, Kuzomari, ThirdPHP, and David Finch!

Hey Monitor, im wondering what software i should use for the writing, im not the best at drawing so i want to get a decent mount of chapters before i try out the drawin.
For writing I'd say anything free is fine. I personally use Google Docs to do all of my writing, but Microsoft Word works great as well. Scrivener is also a good program that authors use because it has tools to make your script look professional!
