Thank you so much Mike for this specific video. This particular video is by far the best video on how to replace the entire pinion sector gear combination and correcting the turning issue. Well done!
Hi Mower Mike, firstly I would like to thank you for acknowledging that there are some ladies looking at your video, well done ! I am another one of those ladies ! The main reason for my comment is to say that you are the only one who seems to know what to do with the steering alignment on a ride on. All the other Men seem to think that if its not straight that they should bash it with a hammer, drill a bigger hole in it or bend it to where they want it ! I have just replaced all the steering gear on my JDL110, including steering arms. When I connected the new ones up the wheels were well off being straight, and yet there was nothing wrong with them before. Although I haven't tried your way yet, it certainly makes a whole lot more sense than all the other ways shown by others. Thanks and keep up the informative work !
Haha love the comment. Wish I was there to take a look at your steering issue and give ya an opinion. Sounds like either you have the arms swapped (they are different depending on each side. Or you may have bent your actual spindles. I have a video on the spindle replacements is super easy and comment to get them out of wack. Good luck, you got this! (You are right guys are big dumb animals lol)
Learning, front spindles old grease clean and relube, TH-cam most of night learned a lot, washers and flat bearing for front spindles. You video one of best, I'm impacted guy also.
@@MowerMike My wife doesn't think I am funny either but I'm obviously hysterical. Going to help a friend who says he needs to do this to his JD because the steering is slipping, don't know the exact problem yet but I'll figure it out. I'm not super familiar with riding mowers so I had to look this up I am more familiar with gators, trucks, and tractors so I'm sure I can figure it out. This seems a hell of a lot easier than when I replaced the rack and pinion on a trail gator 4x6. JD wanted $800 for the parts and I got one off Amazon for $150. Thanks for the tips.
@@OShackHennessy It is super easy. The usual issue is the Pinion gear, you can just swap that and be good. Once you look at the gears under the mower while he turns the wheel it will be obvious what is wrong. Good luck!
@@MowerMike Pinion and sector were both worn. Taking the mowing deck on/off was honestly harder than the actual repair. Your tips were extremely helpful and definitely saved me time so thanks again broseph.
@@MowerMike Thanks again. Got it done. Not too much trouble at all except I did struggle with putting the plate back up with the 4 bolts. Had to get my son to help me with that and holding steering wheel while I tighten the pinion gear 👍🏽
I cut out a 5" long section of Good Sector teeth and weld them above and slightly back on the new sector. I hope you used a Brass bushing above the Pinion Gear. The old one was missing Completely! They can often be Inverted to give a new surface of teeth for the Sector. I find it easier to just remove the Sector Plate.
Thanks for doing this video. It made the job so much easier. The jokes made it fun too. By the way, I have little girly hands and they still couldn't reach that nut lol
need a guide bolt to install the repair kit with only a pivot bolt. the kit only comes with the pivot bolt. how can I find a guide bolt? lost both bolts in disassembly.
After doing what you just did on my JD LA175, my forward/ reverse pedal has stopped functioning. It just flops back and forth with no tension and can't engage the transmission. The belt has tension but still doesn't work. What can be tge problem. There's no one in my area that does repairs so I have to do it myself.
I bought new drag lines off Amazon the adjustment end on the ones I got were on the end that connects under the mower and not at the wheel like yours. i got it put back to gather now it wants to hang up when I try to trun right. Any suggestions
One of the old ones was broken at the wheel that's why I changed them in the first place. Just didn't know if you could give me direction on what or where to look to fix it, guess I was wrong
@@garywilloughby7344 I have no idea what you are working on. My only suggestion is to get a non adjustable stock one and maybe it won’t hit. Or get big hammer and wack it back in shape.
Try grabbing the steering wheel and yanking it straight up. That should wack the top of the gear and help it press out. If not pry bar and hammer. Good luck!

Concise, informative, and entertaining. You're doing great things. Thanks for taking the time to put this video together.
Wow thanks for the comment. This is refreshing after reading the last grumpy old man comments I got on this channel.
Thanks for acknowledging the ladies! I’m usually the “tiny hand helper/tool wench” but I’m gonna tackle this one! Thanks for the clear instructions!
We all know the female handing us the tools knows more about what are we doing (or screwing up) more than we do ourselves ;) Way to get’r done Kim!
The different sized or mismatched bolts and nuts you can thank and over-educated engineer who has probably never fixed his own ;) great video :)
Haha right!

My snap ring pliers, need new ones, won't take snap ring off.

Hi advice snap ring pliers, have a set, usually used one style, it broke, where can I buy good quality and most versatile style, thank you.
4 am. Like your idea, drop that plate, steering fasteners to.
4am jeez, can’t be that many videos out there on Deere spindles lol

I use these, find the right thread needed and head to the local hardware store. You got this

Look under the mower and see what hooks to the end of the pedal and figure out what is unhooked.
@MowerMike the shift rod attached to the transmission arm and at the front it goes through the bracket the pedal pivots on.
How do you put the bellt on
Check out my John Deere playlist there is a drive belt replacement video there. Good luck

just wanted you to know i had the drag links hooked up wrong got them fixed mower turns find. thanks for the video's
That brake leveling part is what gets u. You never said anything about it.
I can't complain you got me in the game!!!!
No idea what brake leveling is. Please enlighten us.
It has the brake on the left and the forward and reverse on the right. I was just using a tractor without anything, just the height from the ground

That's terrible, my LX176 been great, just batteries.
I was given a x300 for free because the owner didn’t want to get it fixed. Just a steering gear issue.
So $85 and two hours of work. I got a tractor.
Very cool, x300 is a damn fine tractor!
