  • Tod from Tod's Workshop and Tod's Cutler had some of his very nice new swords at Tewkesbury, and I took the opportunity to ask him about them.

    Love Tod. Competing with the big sword manufacturers, but, it's just Tod. A testament to the craftsman who can compete with companies on his own. His writhen hilt longsword is the prettiest sword I've ever seen. I want one.

      I plan on buying nearly every sword Tod is currently selling. I just chose the above as my 1st.

      I LOVE the XIV! I was so close to choosing that 1st. It's just more like what I train with.

    Love this video! If your new armor didn't show how much you are into reenactments, then this did 😊

    My eyes are on the arming sword so as Tods waiting for a delivery of swords for Pre- Orders he obviously doesn’t make them himself I wonder who does?

      I'm not sure who exactly makes them. But, he has mentioned that they are made in India, as is the rest of his Cutler line, as far as I know.

    I want to get one of the clipped point falchions, but I know I will leave the checkout with a type 14 and a warhammer. 😆

  • @daemonharper3928
    @daemonharper3928 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    The English style Falchion is nice - the type of weapon a clown like me would use back in the day - but I'm just a whore for type XIV's - and I get it, everyone likes type 14's so I'm hardly original but....in common with rondel daggers they are very much function first and form is a happy coincidence.

    I am excited to buy one of these swords, my only complaint is he picked 4 amazing designs. How can I pick just one!?

    the Wakefield hanger and that German Messer seems to be functionally very similar

    Why aren't reenactment swords made of different metals to arrive at the right weight?

    • @ZacharyEvans
      @ZacharyEvans  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      A great question. Maybe I should ask lots of different reenactors for their opinions?

    • @rileyernst9086

      Too expensive I'd imagine.

  • @johnbyington3458

    Question: Zac you refer to the blades as reenacting blades; are they not hardened? I may be misunderstanding the language or definitions.

    • @carlplossl468
      @carlplossl468 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Blunt, suitable for demos, relatively safe

    • @ZacharyEvans
      @ZacharyEvans  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Blunt and overly heavy. They look like swords and are suitable for mock combat, but they feel like an iron bar.

    • @JohnByington-ux7lx
      @JohnByington-ux7lx ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ZacharyEvans Thanks. The sword I carry for our joust/ show is sharp, so that I can slice through cabbage and pumpkins (and such). Thanks again, I was misunderstanding what I was looking at.

  • @tylerreed610
    @tylerreed610 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Do you think the wasting is maybe to do with frequent sharpening? Seems like it follows the same ware that sharpening would. Might have been manufactured in because it looks nice and gives the appearance of a well used sword. Just my thoughts

  • @IAmHated284
    @IAmHated284 ปีที่แล้ว

    i think more than anything the initial swords he has brought out (aside from the type XIV) are all severely under represented on the market, a clip point falchion like that is only produced by a handful of people, same with the Wakefield hanger. and messers are generally quite difficult to obtain really (which is surprising considering how popular they are) aside from LE (with their 6-7month wait) youre either looking at a coldsteel MMA messer (shivers) or a krieger last time i was looking. definitely a good selection for a first batch and i want a couple of them myself.

      Talking Tod With Swords would also be a technically correct title.

    Too much video focus on Tod’s face and not enough video of the swords which is what we tuned in to see. .

      Good advice. I'll see if I can rectify it this year
