Yeah, at 9:05 it says it's a 3mm dc (.118") and it looks like maybe half that and I wouldn't take that big of a bite of anything besides aluminum or maybe bronze.
@@gust.2435 Thats steel, and 3mm is not that much. For roughing i usually take 5mm, depending of the clamping. (Thats for X axis, and i talk full Radius)
CNC turning is a detailed and intricate method of creating custom parts and components using a turning lathe. Turning can be undertaken manually or via an automated lathe.
Many very good cnc machinist n programmers dont know to use old school lathes to there full potential.. most people are learning advanced technology..not to say manual is not important . It's just it's to slow n to much like working . Manuals will always be needed but not to the same extent as cnc ...manuals get alot of the rework
Great....they work fast.....but do they burn through inserts.....is stuff tapered....is it out of round? Makes for a fun video. But can you run it 24 hours a day...switching between parts and operators? Will it stay in print? How does it hold up to being rode hard and put away wet?
I thought most of this video was pretty realistic. The aluminum plate at 1:00 is definitely a "close enough" job, no precision there. These are mostly steel and aluminum parts so most operations here seemed reasonable to me, except they would use coolant in the real world. Machining super-alloys would make for a boring video 😉

@morbeus Morbeusi have to agree, it is such an impressive thing to see but dont worry, students in my college is still practicing the manual lathe skill. It was just last semester since i touched that machine. The lecturers still know their thing
Which machine? There's quite a few, you're probably looking at around 16,181,712.35 INR new for the cheapest one and 92,466,927.73 INR for the most expensive. You could get a haas which is a good machine for a company to start with for much less.
At 5:30. You are feeding that inserted drill entirely too slow. That drill should be fed at least 8 to 10 thousands per rev. That drill should chip not string. That’s how you tear up the inserts. You need to load them. Quick tip. Those insert have a chip breaker. Use them. After all you are not running a twist drill. Make sense??? Sure it does. I run a 1” inserted at 1850 on the spindle and feed it at 20” a minute. Chips sound like they are going to break the window. I drilled over three hundred holes and the inserts look like new. And that’s in 1018 cffl 1” thick.
Agreed. That drill should be jamming through that sucker. Amazing to see so many shops underutilizing their equipment especially larger ones. Most are just too damn afraid to push it.
I used to love on my old Haas pushing my 2.5" insert drill through 3" steel plates in about 10 seconds. The sound of the chips hitting inside the machine was like a bad hail storm.
