- This one has a story behind it. So, I bought my first video camera in 1988 to videotape Op IV. Word started to spread that they were breaking up and this would be their final show. My friend Jason kept telling me to leave early for the show and I kept saying "nah, we'll be fine". We get there about an hour before showtime and the club is already full and there are about 2x more people waiting outside.
So Jason and I make our way to the side door and I am whining, holding my camera bag. Someone says "hey grab this amp".. so me and Jason grab one side of a half stack and walk in. Yup, I snuck in- it was my only time EVER doing that to any show. I kept my camera on my hand to ensure no one could see if I had a stamp or not.
The opening band starts and they were incredibly great. The band was green day, and I swear that they were the guys who had us carry the amp in. So, thank you. If not for you, this video would not exist.
Filmed with an Aiwa CV80 8mm camcorder with Sony ECM-909 mic strapped to the top. This was going to be a multicamera video, but we could not get the other angle & audio source to play together well. Anyway, this is a huge upgrade to my master because of Jim McLain's brightening and contrast work- thanks a lot.
Enjoy. - เพลง

Thank you for preserving history!
Thank you! This is awesome!
awesome story! thanks for capturing a legendary show in punk history
Thanks for posting and thanks for the story.
Your 'story' is awesome. Thanks for sharing and thanks for this great video! :)
Just awesome
Awesome vid!!!
love me some OP IVY but could've never get into rancid except for their faster/heavier release 2000-01. even the short lived project b4/after OP IVY was pretty cool. "downfall", forget the name if that isn't it.
Dance Hall Crashers perhaps?
32:10 vulnerability 47:40 big city
so good
Was there ever an Op Ivy gig where there wasn't a problem with the bass?
matt ...soooo good
The duct tape job got too overwhelming for Tim
Someone listened to a lot of Fishbone
cant see out cant see out!!!
Tim was so anxious back then
with great gain comes great responsibility
Could only drink in the parking lot back then and even that was frowned upon. :-)
Cool story and cool video too. Did you have the chance to film green day there or another place? Cheers :)
I did not film them that day. I regret that decision. I did film them the next week at Davis community center but it is very dark
I see. Are you the taper of that show? Awesome to know! That is the oldest video show of them taped on video as far as I know! Any chance to see a master transfer of that show? Cheers.
Yes, I am the taper. Gd is producing a documentary on east bay punk and that show was the earliest found. Let me see if I can get it brightened before posting
Guys guys this isn't Tim, it's Lint. Get it right.
yup I liked him when he went by Lint
A-Head Security!!!!
stage diving was not allowed at Gilman hence the guy on stage
Any chance you captured The Lookouts set? Larry Livermore said opening for OpIV's last show was once of their best ever performances, and there's a total lack of Lookouts live shows on youtube.
Hi kyle. No, I only filmed op ivy. I only had a couple of battery packs and I did not want to draw any more attention to myself than necessary. Sorry
@@Shaynestacy67 Would they actually kicked you out? I mean, there was 1k+ people there. Just a shame :/
Great band, really weird vibe in this one though.
Wish you could have gotten Green Day’s set from this show
Where in Gilman was this recorded from? The sound booth?
yes, my angle of the video was filmed from the sound booth. There is another version where we combined this angle + a floor angle + a better audio recording into one video.
@@sacramentomusicarchive do you remember anybody recording a board tape? Would be great to hear this from the soundboard.
@@OrangeYTT no board tape has surfaced yet
Jesse michaels one of the best frontmans ever. Why did you quit man? :(
Jesse Micheals didn't quit... Check out common rider
@@jamessullivan4201 I saved common rider and big rig for myself until last year just in case Jesse never made music again, last wave rockers is beautiful
Check out Classics Of Love. Opivy 2.0
Take Warning can just as easily apply to SHARP skins, Antifa, violent straight edge absolutists, and anybody who lets dogma supersede reason. I was around for the tail end of the skinhead violence in the scene (early 90s) before everyone went in on lengthy prison sentences. So I'm fully aware of the problem they're addressing here. But since I never had the opportunity to see Op Ivy live, I had always hoped that this message was a broader one, and not just focused narrowly on the Nazi skins who were fucking things up in the scene at the time.
it looks like jess wasn't good with tim and matt, just my opinion. that's a pity, especially after they wrote unity lol
*more like tim and matt weren't good with him
