@@hunterjademcreynoldseast993 its because hes playing in a solo, if you look at some dci tenor i&e's you'll see the drummers looking down. When your on the field, you will be expected to look foward.
I got to play tri toms in middle school and those were a pain to match with, I don't even wanna think about marching with these. And that's why ima bass drum player 😂
palominojocelyn As far as the music goes its somewhere between bass and snare in difficulty when you get to drum corps level. Snare is the hardest because of the perfect technique and chops and what not. But at a highschool level its hardest.
At the start of the solo he hit his sticks and a few rims on accident but I am truly impressed by the the way his wrists were moving in the single stroke roll but I am most impressed by the way he's able to move around and get a good tone he's devoted hours into this and he deserves 1st place.
Texas always has pushed for performing arts in their schools I appreciate they kept music as important part of their education most schools through the midwest butchered the music programs.
12 or so rim clicks/stick clicks that seemed accident, on a high movement speed piece, over 3 minutes. What a fuckin G, near perfect stick control. Great crosses too
"I can do better" "clean up those rim hits" "you rushed this and dragged here" how about you guys put your money where your mouth is. No solo will ever be perfect. Ever. something will be wrong. If it was perfect then it wouldn't be fun. The point of solos and band in general is trying to make it as close to perfect as possible but to reach perfect would take the humanness out of the whole idea. Mistakes happen to even the best players, so just because you're in high school and you learned a few terms doesn't mean you can point out any bad technique problems or how easy his solo is. You aren't a fucking judge. Get over it and enjoy the video.
Damn, I though, "Is this kid really going to do the performance from 'Whiplash'?", then I realized 'Whiplash' came out 2 years after this performance. Mind=Blown
our drumline is fortunate to have a instructor who was a former blue devil. we work our asses off and the basses have a 6 tuplit spilt that sounds badass, our drumline is awesome so far this season and were aiming for high percussion!
Our drumline is a junior high drumline that is very good search us up Beardsley junior high school indoor percussion. Our drum instructor is also a former blue devil and apart of fever!
Really any heavy marching stick, but I personally mostly use Vic Firth MTS1 Tenor Swizzles. They just have to have decent weight (at least for me) to get the right sound and bounce.
Bill Bachman looks down when he plays his solos and he is probably one of the best tenor players out there. Marching with them would be a different story tho.
I know this takes a lot of energy because I'm a drummer for my school I'm the only girl who does drums in my school and for my concert I have to wear a suit and tie 🎼🎵🎶😊
No I'm not five SA I'm a teenager. I think you're the five year old for leaving such a bogus comment. Can you even drum or are you just here to troll those who can? Keep your stupid comments to yourself. And don't reply to this :) that's childish.
Omg I'm going to lbj now he's so good and fast glad he represents lbj for real thoe I've seen it before but this is the first time I noticed he was actually representing lbj I'm so late but it's so litt😂😏
I’m literally sad cause I was going into Marcus for percussion but moved to argyle which is 4A but it’s ok cause argyle has the #1 percussion in the state for 4a
whats funny is his opening with singlet agility showmanship, peaked at a slower speed on a single drum, then the oscillating singlet run between 3 toms...
I'm pretty sure this is for solo and ensamble and a rule for it is that there is NO RECORDING AT ALL and if someone records then the person gets disqualified
The majority of bass 1 players do end up going into the tenor line since they most likely already have the fastest hands on the bassline (not always) but most of the time their fast hands are why they're on bass 1 in the first place
No average level drummer can watch this without a smoldering jealous hatred in their heart.
Thellamalord555 no I am not because I’m not average hehe
When I was in school. We were expected to face forward at all times and not look down while playing xD but maybe that's just my school
@@hunterjademcreynoldseast993 its because hes playing in a solo, if you look at some dci tenor i&e's you'll see the drummers looking down. When your on the field, you will be expected to look foward.
@@dark_legenda605 it’s also kinda hard when your on tenor
Good thing I'm no where near a average drummer. This is child's play.
He looks like those chefs who cook in front of u in those restaurants
Carrot Connor there called habachi restaurants and the chefs are couzi
Carrot Connor lol!!!!
Anon I'm pretty sure it's tepanyaki
is that what playing quads looks like to people who know nothing about percussion
Hey, Its Apollo 1. You spelt that wrong 2. It's traditionally called hibachi in America
Tenor drum is probably one of hardest instruments in the whole band. But it's really fun to play. Props to this kid. ✊🏻
Yes! Especially going up hills during parades. It also slows me down when I try to walk on tempo. I can't move my legs as much.
***** Great to know! lmao starting my Freshman year in hs as a Tenor percussionist :)

0:56 am I the only one who heard him say damn
Loved marching with him! Best high school tenor player I’ve met.
I really was hoping hed just walk away after putting his sticks back in the bag like fuck it thats first place material
That's exactly what I thought was going to happen
Bruh same
Yeah I thought that was the whole solo.
This is so good I love listening to amazing quad players
some parts sounded so much like the "scram", or run away sound effect in old cartoons. around 2:40
Oh my goodness, I cannot believe I did not notice that HAHA
"Time to skedaddle!"
FLINTSTONES OMFG
LMAO!!
Lol it sounds like Scooby Doo
that part 3:00 is pretty dope that grove should be put into a cadence
That’s from Quadzilla in 2009 i&e
Texas always has pushed for performing arts in their schools I appreciate they kept music as important part of their education most schools through the midwest butchered the music programs.
T San not my school in the midwest music is life
The Midwest has the most competitive marching arts and concert bands in the country, if not then second to the south (texas)
Austin Darks yea for dci for show style its Louisiana
T San
YES! I'm from a pretty big, Texas band. Our band is more respected than the football team, lol.
Raul Lopez that makes two of us 👍
Why didn't his sticks instantly burst into flames fro. the heat of the fire that was.
truuu
Bc everytime he hit the rim they cooled down. Surprised they didn't freeze
This is honestly shit
I'm a trumpet and my friend let me try tenors today and I loved them but they really are difficult, props to this guy: it sounded amazing
Quick question. Do all band rooms have the same lockers?
ThirstyCartoon Most have very similar lockers.
Band rooms have lockers?
I've never had lockers in any of my band rooms
I don't have lockers in mine
mine had different lockers
Man, this gave me so much pleasure, and a renewed pride in my country.
mike58greenberg lol that escalated quickly
12 or so rim clicks/stick clicks that seemed accident, on a high movement speed piece, over 3 minutes. What a fuckin G, near perfect stick control. Great crosses too
0:38 look at the flick of the wrist
I noticed too and I was dead
+Shrektacular Shrek Ha

No joke this is my cousins ex bf. Coincidentally I'm now playing quads at Mccallum high
Paulo Zambarano lie
What up skad race bro.
Also, I was gonna go to Marcus high school which is where this is filmed
Akins is better
mccallum is too good they destroyed in competition the other day

You think you can do better? Prove it. Post a video of you doing this, but everything better.
I still reminisce over this solo
Damn, I though, "Is this kid really going to do the performance from 'Whiplash'?", then I realized 'Whiplash' came out 2 years after this performance.
Mind=Blown
I would've liked more Dynamics, but it was fun to watch.
a lot of forearm too, especially that left hand
"Why'd you stop?"
"Not quite my tempo."
Did we need 58 seconds of the same note?
Warm up
...seriously?
Madyson Reed 57
its not a note, and just say he played on the spock
+Daniel Ely ... what?

we got high percussion 4 times this season!!! also were just starting up winter, hope you guys do a great job :)
We got high percussion at all the competetions I am lucky to have a good drum instructor
thats good to hear!
Our drumline hasn't lost high percussion in 2 years! And our instructor is Mark Thurston
This is what your drum tech has in mind when he asks you what you can do 😂
4 years ago this was recorded. Amazing.
So was this comment
His single stroke rolls are crispy
Those beats were dope.
0:59 "Damn"
Damn, dude. World class... Maximum show too. No flies landin' on you.
0:01 Is there background drumming?
It’s at a drumline comp so there are other lines outside the building that you can hear
what kind of drumstick do you use for quads
Really any heavy marching stick, but I personally mostly use Vic Firth MTS1 Tenor Swizzles. They just have to have decent weight (at least for me) to get the right sound and bounce.
I use rubber mallets, i prefer the sound and its easier got me
promark system blue sean vega's

***** I just got billy clubs, and I love them! You are right , great chop builders! Thanks man
Amazing performance
honestly amazing preformance
One of the judges is the drumline conductor for macarthur highshool, which is the highschool i go to
Useless!
Marc Gonzalez gaaaaay
Ulises Olvera i went to Alamo heights Kappa
LBJ highschool from Laredo Texas?
I thought the same thing, Lol...
This was filmed at Marcus high school which is funny cause I was gonna go to this highschool
His form is so relaxed that it’s amazing
It is Dynasty DFX quad drum (it sound is cool!)
he did really good!! one word of advise from a fello tenor player, DONT LOOK DOWN!
In a solo, it really doesn't matter. Even the greats watch their hands when doing solos.
Ah who cares, he got first place.
Playing Tenors is like having sex. Sometimes you just gotta look down there and admire what you are doing lol
Bill Bachman looks down when he plays his solos and he is probably one of the best tenor players out there. Marching with them would be a different story tho.
I've been trying to play that fast for four years, damn he's good
this makes me want to play snare instead of quads!
why? was it bad? (sorry i can't tell if it is good or bad)
No it was very good its just that I don't really like the sound.
Ok but i wanna play tenors because they are ridiculously fun!
Once you get into the advanced stuff in snare, its amazingly flashy and fun (Just personal preference)
Not for me because in my school band i play both SNARE AND QUADS
Not quite my tempo
Is that supposed to be a reverence from the movie Whiplash😂?
Jamey Boggess whiplash is the best😂
Mandy Moo no. Reference from the move Forrest Gump.
Niznuts123 well your a sarcastic one I see
ARE YOU ACTUALLY SO FUCKING BAD OR ARE YOU TRYING TO SABOTAGE MY BAND?
That was tasty! High School??? Where'd he end up marching?
Flams? Where you at?
Holy crap this is really good!!
I know this takes a lot of energy because I'm a drummer for my school I'm the only girl who does drums in my school and for my concert I have to wear a suit and tie

starts at 1:27
The echo when he slows down is bad ass
Anyone know of a transcribed version of this solo?
ElvyTheVelvy ! Why would any body transcribe this
Awesome you guys
How is he standing that straight and jamming like that.
That was dope as fuck!!!! Kinda miss my marching band days.
Good run my dude!
That was hella good 👌🏻
I see those boa trophies in the back.
Austin Shanley Marcus HS has a pretty good band 😅
I’m literally sad cause I was going into Marcus for percussion but moved to argyle which is 4A but it’s ok cause argyle has the #1 percussion in the state for 4a
whats funny is his opening with singlet agility showmanship, peaked at a slower speed on a single drum, then the oscillating singlet run between 3 toms...
I was the 1millon viewer
Amazed!!!
I think i'm in love...
Now, let's get this kid a drumset and see what beautiful things happen. :,)
+Well I'll Be Danned do you even play drums?
+Well I'll Be Danned Give him a bass drum 5 (biggest) and see what happens. Masterpieces don't happen immediately.
Good Job Congrats
2:55 - 3:40 ish sounds a lot like ADHD. Was gonna cite it as an influence when I realized this came out in 2012 lol
this is literally every band hall ever
Except they have a bunch of BOA and State champ stuff in the backround
Wow, I totally want to play quads instead of bass drum now!!!
Hey ur awesome dude I play tenors and I got outstanding soloist with a song called turkey trot
I wish I was this good at quads
Checks to make sure video speed level is on normal*
thats a trippy shelf
where the People?
I wish I was this good
3:50 Bluecoats 2011
I'm pretty sure this is for solo and ensamble and a rule for it is that there is NO RECORDING AT ALL and if someone records then the person gets disqualified
good dam job!!
gotta admit, the first minute was boring
That was his warm up...
yea, but still, it was boring
Elijah Lopez Sports are fun but stretching is boring isn't it?
yeah, it can be
Elijah Lopez gotta admit, you have to be quite special thinking it wasn't a warm-up
2:52 did he mess up
No i think he was using the wrong stick for the part or it broke or sum
Respect
I think he said LBJ jaguars, as in Johnson high school. I would've gone there if I hadn't moved :(
why is he wearing snow pants?
Oh hon
wow !
pfft, first place, I play tenors and that's just my warm-up
+Jeremyah Guzman People always have something negative to say. Besides, this kid is in high school.
+Broadsword Marching Percussion sarcasm dude, I'm I'm high school too and that looks really hard, it would take me a long time to learn that
I've found the future Lars Ulrich.
Jeremyah Guzman hes only in highschool
Wait was this at oema dam you can't record there no matter what or the person will be disqualified
any sheet music?
Sticks so high?
....Then there's first bass..Why am i such a loser?
Bass is awesome dude.
Yeah, you're right.
x'D
***** Im doing the exact same thing!! Im first bass but i wanna learn tenors.
The majority of bass 1 players do end up going into the tenor line since they most likely already have the fastest hands on the bassline (not always) but most of the time their fast hands are why they're on bass 1 in the first place
so fucking sick
This makes me wanna play quads instead of snare
Holy fucking shit
Really good but gotta clean up the rims from 2:00 to 2:07
😂
Bro doing the double
yeahhhhhhh
