In 1990, Sakurai Atsushi's mother fell ill with a fatal disease. While on tour, he was away and was not able to visit her in the hospital. He calls her on the phone to check up on her and wishes her well. After a short while, she died. Those calls were with his last talks with his mother. He wrote 'Long Distance Call' in 2001 recalling his experience of calling his mother while she was dying in the hospital.
After more than two decades, Sakurai revisits this memory.

This is my all time favourite Buck Tick song. I don't personally believe in an afterlife, but if there is one, I hope he is with his mother now.

I don't know why, tonight, that I watched this. As I sit here, my own mother is dying. I can feel the ragged, gut wrenching soul of this song. As an adult, you're never ready no matter what, for your parents to die, even if it is their time. *sigh*, Acchan, Arigato Gozaimasu.
Mom died on Saturday, but is peaceful once again. I love you, Mama. Once again, arigato Acchan.

My condolences, dear. Four days ago was the third anniversary of my mother's death and, in fact, nobody is ready for it. I relate to Mudai, though, and even if Acchan knows how to press our hearts with these lyrics, we're able to feel the warmth of his feelings. I'm grateful too.
November 29th... my own mother passed away. I hadnt seen her in 4 years but I had spoken with her a few times on the phone.... she died 1 hour before I got to the hospital. I am sorry for your loss.

This song resonates with me so much. The way he describes being distant of his mother when she was going through her final moments, his performance... it all gives off to me a feeling of intense regret. I lived at the same house as my mother, but now I realize how distant I was from her at the time of her passing. This song both comforts me and makes my heart sink...

it's about to be three years since my mom passed away but it still feels so fresh in fact even if i’m slowly getting used to her absence pain of losing her only gets worse as time passes.
i really respect sakurai for being able to portrey such a heavy emotion like grief.
I loved this song for years, but this is my first time hearing the origins of the song and it completely changed the meaning for me. I love it even more now. I think it takes a lot of heart to write about something so tragic and important in your life. At the same time, artists have the ability to let tragedy fuel their work, and they can process those deep emotions in such a beautiful way.
