    I'm a cellist trying to teach myself banjo and force my trumpet player husband to learn along with me. This is perfect for him since he's active duty and already knows all the bugle calls. Thank you so much for sharing this!

    I got my first banjo on christmas after wanting one for years,never played a instrument in my life, before buying one ive watched quite a few videos but none of them really seemed to be as well explained as yours have. Im by no means good but you are a great instructor, with no musical background besides singing, I can play a few songs all thanks to you Jim keep the videos coming

      How’s it going, are you still playing? I just started playing 2 months back and it’s a blast. Can’t wait to get good enough to jam out to these old songs!

    Playing bugle on the banjo is fairly straightforward but playing banjo on the bugle is exhausting.

    I wanted to give a public shout out of thanks, Jim. I'm an old dog, yeah literally, not usually on the lookout for new tricks. But, your recommendation for Ernie Ball type finger picks got me curious. I've never even thought about those pointy little alternatives. You mentioned you were stuck using them once. They felt awkward at first, but after you swore at them a while until you got used to them you swear by them today. OK, based on your anecdote, I tried them myself. I've been playing with Dunlops for more than 50 years now, but I will not go back. Took a little getting used to, as you mentioned, but those Ernie Balls have really felt great. Makes my fingers bounce off the strings, they're so light. Fingers aren't quite as limber as before, but playing at speed is much easier now. Thanks, Jim. Just wanted to let you know.

    Thank you MrPanky I really appreciate you!
    Oh I also would like to say to you I know you would like to see and hear. I finished my home made banjo about month ago and it turned out so so good that I don't really know how describe it in all of its characteristic that would give it ample credit in how it really is . I love it so much that I can't keep my hands off of it and the desire to play it is passion . My very very expensive Stellar stays on the stand and rarely do I pick it up . We've talked several times however you may not remember as it was some while back and brief in all of our conversation.
    Thank you Jim for all you do for us ! Have a great day Mr Panky we talk soon ....

    Hey Mr Panky .i haven't forgot about you and my homemade banjo video., really busy! I watch this video every day and try not to lead myself into
    other rolls or cords until I get the others behind me previous . Im on up there now through the vamp and hitting that 17 fret down from the 5 is hard for me and I paractice it so much and I've gotten bored with it , I'm no longer interested with it , I'm frustrated with it, and just the other night was debating myself whether to use a butchers knife, or a 357 Magnum to just kill that part out all the while premeditating the murder
    of out

    Sure absolutely I'll shoot a video up on you tube .and I'll address it wth your name and all
    It's really good banjo! It's very um, well improvised . ! Haha I wouldn't have it any other way !
    Yes sir , it's nice to see you and talk to you again ,am honored, and look forward to the pleasantries in conversation !
    A side note : perhaps one day we can jest pull up a chair to the kitchen table ,have big tall glass of iced sweet tea , and just hammer something out in conversation ... Hahahaha yes sir you put a great ending to my day . And right on about the dangerous waters when you come down 12 frets to hit spot on .., hahahahuhuh . It's hard for me to that .. Hey Jim, what brand of bibbed coveralls do you wear, where is the best outlet to purchase them from, and do they really assist you (or anyone) in learning the 5-string banjo.?

    I stumbled on your videos this morning and have spent a few hours now going through all the beginner banjo series. You've got my bluegrass juices flowing! For too many years I've threatened to buy a banjo and learn how to play. At one time you recommended the RK-35R, but I notice you also play the M-5 quite a bit. Do you still endorse/recommend the RK-35R as money well spent without wanting to "buy another banjo later"?

    • @JimPankey
      @JimPankey  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm still playing both banjos. I'm just usually lazy and grab whatever happens to be the first thing on the "pile" when I'm teaching or making videos. My RK35 gets a good bit of use locally with a couple different bands since I can plug in with it. :)

    • @TJRohyans
      @TJRohyans 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JimPankey - Plug in? As in electro-acoustic? Is that even necessary with a resonator on it? It doesn't come that way, does it?

    • @JimPankey
      @JimPankey  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TJRohyans The group I use it with is pretty loud, so having a pickup is pretty much the only option. RK installed the LR Baggs pickup for me a couple of years ago.
