I was an F4 pilot stationed at cam rahn bay with the 59th tac fighter squadron. I was there for 3 months and medevaced back to the US. After a month in the hospital at cam rahn bay and three months at Wright Patterson AFB hospital I was retired with 20 % disability. To this day I am 100% disabled and living in chronic pain. Every day I vividly remember the Vietnam war. I am now 79 years old.
1970, will always remember when the back door of my DC-8 opened at Bien Hoa the heat and smell almost overwhelmed me. Had to live with that for a year.
Thank you for sharing. My dad was in Nam 69-70 with the 29th special support group. Lost him in 77 due to complications of Pstd. Your video helps me to know him a little

I was stationed at a small camp about 30 miles from Bien Hoa. Our C.O. gave us permission to get a list of things our platoon members needed and take a deuce and a half to the Bien Hoa PX to get them. We didn't have a PX in our camp and many were out of tooth paste, soap and etc. When we arrived at the Bien Hoa entry gate, an air force Lt, stopped us and asked what we were there for, I explained we were going to their PX for needed items. He would not allow us in since we weren't on official business and made us turn around and head back to camp. Since that time, I've never had any use for the USAF. The USAF can KMA
I was an Air Policeman at Tan Son Nhut AB, Saigon. A Lt was never part of an entry control point! Only enlisted worked the gates. I'm sorry for the way you men were treated. It broke my heart to detain AWOL Soldiers who were looking for a moment of peace from that god awful mess! I once missed a Kbar while searching a detainee! He was placed in a holding cell and when the 716th MP's found it, I nearly was canned from a Desk Sgt's job!

In June '68 I was one of a Saturn Airlines DC-8 load of replacements getting off the plane, headed for that tented area that served as the passenger terminal. Laying around the front of it were a gaggle of infantrymen who were waiting for a C-123 or Caribou flight back up to a base camp further North. Those of us who had just stepped into the humidity were taken aback at how dirty and emaciated these guys looked, sprawled on the asphalt. They all looked like Wiley Coyote, and those who weren't asleep were blankly staring right through us. Four months later, after my infantry company had cycled through operating out of a bunch of firebases, I was resting in front of that tent, staring and trading remarks with my buddies about how so many of the guys stepping off the arriving charter flights looked so annoyingly pink, plumped up, and clueless. I fondly remember walking out on the same tarmac and boarding a TWA 707 in June '69 for the long ride back to Travis AFB.
I was stationed in Bien Hoa as a pilot with the 118th A.H C. Not too many fond memories but there were some great guys and glad to be sitting hete in tact 49 years later.
I was born in and grew up, and the Air Force school in Bien Hoa airport, reminiscent These videos have a lot of memories of Bien Hoa airport. Thanks DejaVu.
Having gone through the replacement center myself in 1969, this video helped show my wife, daughter, and son in law a little bit of what I experienced. Great job again on your videos.
Spent my first 4 days in country there in 69. Damn near pissed myself. Then flew out to LZ. I did piss myself there. Scared ain't the word. Made it home with everything thing working including my attitude. Been that way for 48. Praise the lord!!
Got in country Jan. ‘69 at Bien Hoa. On the way to my new assignment at Duster Compound a few mi. North of Long Binh. This video brings back memories of my ride to my arty base. I remember how hot and dry it was and the bombed and burned out bldgs. Along the way from ‘68 TET.
I was stationed at the 90th from Nov 68 to Nov 69 and was assigned to Shake Down for returning troops. Basically we took away stuff not allow back to CONUS. This video has brought back some really interesting moments of my Tour 365 in Vietnam. Thanks for the Memories.
served in the Air Force as security police K-9 from 30 June 70 till 30 June 71 at Bien Hoa . worked every K-9 post along the perimeter at night and took photos of the flight line during the morning. it's very strange to watch these videos and remember all the things that went on over there. now it's all just a lifetime ago.
Served at Long Binh, 185 Maint Bn from Sep 1967 to Apr 1969. Just saw these this morning and it does take me back. Saigon, Bien Hoa, My Tho. Thanks for posting.
I was stationed at the 93rd Evacuation Hospital just a few miles down the road from the 90th Repl Oct 68~Dec 69. Thanks for the video, I remember so much of the area..like the back of my hand.

Great film clips. Came in to and left from Bien hoan and 90th Replacement. I was 2nd LT and stayed to the left just past coming into gate. Was sent up to Quang Tri and 5th Mech(4-5 stops on the way). Last 2 month right there at Long Binh with 720th MP Bn.
In Aug 1968 I landed in bien hoa flew in on a DC-8 airlift international was the airline remember seeing the guys going home the heat and humidity was unbelievable..they bused us over to the air 90th replacement battalion with a stop at LBJ the bus driver wanted to point out long bien jail to us…was at the 90th I think for two days called my name out for the 25th infantry division at cu chi ..we than flew to cu chi in a c123 not a long flight maybe 25 to 30 minutes a driver picked us up at the air strip in a Duce in a half I remember he said how many of you guys are infantry we all were he said good they are dropping like flies out there…he wasn’t kidding it was a interesting year…flew home Aug 23rd 1969….
Left Vietnam in Dec 1971,went through the 90th.Does anyone else remember the "Pee house of the August moon" at the 90th? We processed through, plane was delayed,Had to do the urine test twice.extra 24 hours in Vietnam.
This brings back old memmories. Shows you did a lot of work on the video. In the USAF, was stationed at Bien Hoa, crewing an F-100D Super Saber, from Sep 68 thru Aug 69 with the 4531st Field Maintenance Squadron.
Great quality but the arrows are more than a little confusing. The arrow that, it seems, is trying to point to the 90th is actually at the opposite end of Long Binh, and points across TC Hill. The 90th was several miles away. Aside from that, though, it's a terrific glance back at a time in our lives when we were young and immortal. I was Transportation Corps, 543rd & 151st TC from May 68 to Mar 69. Welcome home, brothers.
UMG claimed copyright on the music soundtrack I used, so TH-cam supressed the audio, including the narration. It's a lot of work to re-edit the video/narration & re-post, so I just used TH-cam's 'license-free' music so there's not complete silence while viewing.
The fact there were so many US soldiers busted and sent to LBJ and that they had a mutiny is one of those things vets and government don't want to get out.
Was at bien hoa 64/65, worked on A1Es and was on flite line on 16 may 65 when all hell broke loose.. google that date.. one of worse dissasters in air force history..
