Hi Oora, have you checked this conversation, one of the guys was a synth designer for a major company, what do you think about the topic? th-cam.com/video/kk-3vXOAtVo/w-d-xo.htmlsi=zZ1vOooC07Bqltv6
This is not Dub. It's Acid and it has absolutely NOTHING to do with Dub. Its not even Dub influenced let alone that it is real Dub. Its pretty annoying that everyone who uses a delay calls his music Dub nowadays. This guy obviously doesn't know what he is talking about. Dub is stuff like King Tubby, Scientist, Prince Jammy, Mad Professor, The Disciples, Alpha & Omega, Jah Shaka, Jah Warrior, Rhythm & Sound, Twilight Circus, Wackies etc.
@@hanshandkante5055 Everyone is entitled to their subjective opinions but I think thats a pretty narrow view of what dub can be. There is an audio mixer being used as an instrument; there is echo, reverb and filters being used to sculpt the sound. There are techniques used which come directly from dub such as routing the echo back into its own channel to get feedback. What it seems like you are saying is that the music is not reggae-based as it doesnt have a one drop beat or a steppas beat. To me its dub influenced. Anyway, for me the music is good and I'm trying to foster positive youtube comments to artists. Keep it up Oora!
@@claytonchipper3874 I don't think it has to be a typical reggae rhythm to be dub. Take for instance stuff like Scorn, Spectre, Bill Laswell and this whole Crooklyn Dub scene. Its not Reggae but its still Dub. Or this vienna downbeat stuff like Tosca or Kruder & Dorfmeister - not exactly Reggae but still at least Dub influenced. But this here? Its not even close to anything Dub related. Dub is not only that you use echo reverb and filters otherwise Death Metal, Country, Techno or Industrial would also be Dub, hell even Pop music would be Dub then. It is HOW you use them. Also the most important part in Dub is an emphasis on sub bass. If it doesn't have a sub bass it isn't dub.
Thank you for making content about the S-4. I'm very intrigued by it, but also not fully convinced. Is it me or does the S-4 sound a bit cold. So far I can hear a lot of cool soundscapes in your videos, but it all sounds a bit the same. Would you say that is has its own character/tone and that just the way it sounds or can it be programmed differently? I know some gear has a distinct character you either love or not, and some gear has a very neutral sound that is more shapeable. It might be the reverb on the S-4 that sounds cold to me, Im not sure 😅
im with you. I thought there would be more. definitely not feeling it. I appreciate the videos as alway. Great content. This one was heavy on the GAS. Saving my money. Plus, how many damn samplers do I need? T1 Torso. that thing seems like fun.
@@whendoesthisend yeah agree. On paper it's a dream machine, so I thought about preordering, but I'm gonna wait for more reviews/content to see if it's for me 🙂
Am I correct the S4 can be FX box and simultaneously play samples? Obviously slightly hindered by only stereo out... Ok I have got to that bit now 😂 seems cool? The price is a little off-putting for me, I am sure good value but difficult to know whether I would find UI annoying... I had T1 seq for a while which was cool but seemed to only make same things
Thanks for the great work! Do you think the S4 would compare to a pedal like the mood mkii? Can I think of it as an expanded and more 'controllable' version of that pedal?
I thought the same from the very first videos about the S4. Sort of more controllable/deterministic Mood/Microcosm plus some dynamics (drive and compression) and all the sample playing/mangling side... And all that on (what is seems) a very well thought out UI/UX, on par with Elektron stuff. This thing could end up being something really special and a gas killer for a lot of "one trick pony" devices, can't wait to get mine! 🤩
Yes, definitely. But, I will not sell my Mood mkII, because that offer a different workflow, very immediate and great in chain with synths. But you can live with one or another for sure!

Gracias por subir el video...!!!!
Thanks for the detailed walkthrough!
No problem!
The mixer being front and center is very cool.
yes make it feels like a proper instrument to me!
It’s the main instrument for dub
super nice as always!
Thank you! Cheers!
Looking forward to hearing the EP. really like this style of dub!
thanks!!

M1 is a beast of analog mixer
agreed
Out of all of this gear, I think the mixer would be top of my list :) Super nice sounds.
The model1 was my first big investment but never looked back!
The S4 is definitely interesting, but I’m drooling over that Avalon. On my wish list.
it is an amazing instrument. Mine is getting too old and flimsy tho.
Your Avalon is too old and flimsy? The feel or knobs?
pretty cool
thanks!
Would love to own an Avalon😊
I got it like 10 years ago when was easy to buy..
heya oora, very nice. Benidub Digital Echo vs Strymon Volante.. what's your take? thanks!
Benidub is the most straightforward and good sounding delay, cant live without.
thanks. will have to try and compare. seems to weigh less?👍🏼
Incredible…hard work pays off!! 🤍
thanks :)

I think the s4 is like a sandbox. You can make a lot with it . The character I think comes from how you use it.

Doesn’t the S4 need an external sequencer or is it usable enough without one?
so far i used it without sequencer
@@OoraMusic ok, thank you!
The Avalon is SO expensive and is falling apart? 😮
I used it for 10 years constantly , also for live shows, traveled a lot.. so it is normal that sooner or later something will fail!

Oora this avalon when did you bought it? From offical store or second hand?
this one I bought 10 years ago, im waiting one from the last batch
I wish I had 10k $ (My ballpark estimate of what's visible on your table) to spend on music equipment.
this can be done with way way less. Even all software and midi controller!
@@OoraMusic I know, I'm just jealous ;)
Is the S4 synced via MIDI? Haven't been able to find much about the MIDI implementation of the S4.
It’s got TRS MIDI jacks, so I’m assuming yes.
not in this video, but it has both midi and gate sync, lot of possibilities.
I appreciate you man.
thank you!!
