Nice guitar. What brand and model is it? I’m is South Australia where there isn’t much good guitar gear and I’ve never seen a guitar like that before. Good video. It was informative and funny. Cheers, Max 😁👍
@ahhthatsjustgrand6502Winding strings the wrong way puts increased stress on the nut due to the sharper angle. It can also increase the chance of breakage, particularly on plain steel strings. It can also confuse people who are used to the more orthodox winding method increasing the chances for damage to the strings/guitar if someone unaware picks it up. Finally, it's just visually less appealing.
@tomhelms3091 that's what they call a myth. The neck will not move in the time it takes to change the strings. Like everything in life, it's personal preference. Though removing them all at once makes fretboard maintenance much easier.
I agree. The guitar moves too much if you take off all strings at once and takes longer to get back to normal than if you change the strings one at a time.
Good advice based on a myth. KDH literally did a video where he cut all 6 strings at once on 2 guitars and left them like that for 2 days before finally restringing them and iirc he even measured the necks right before he cut the strings and then right before he restrung them and the necks were the same.

Best comment so far. Unless you're doing major work that requires all strings off, it's best to keep the tension on. *If he'd only played with clean(ed) hands, his fretboard wouldn't need servicing every string change. I also use a shaving brush on the strings and fretboard after playing before applying Fast fret.
Lol seriously this guitarist is one of the most entertaining&educational as a person who can't afford music school. Lotta thanks for your works. +I enjoy your blunt words. It not only brings joy but also clear explanation.
I've heard that taking all strings off at the same time can damage the neck (because it's build to withstand the tension of the strings creating). And I always change my strings two at the time.
I always suggest doing a Luthier’s knot It keeps the strings much more stable. And leave the fretboard oil for quite sometime It has to soak in to your fretboard. Also do some gentle scrubbing with a tissue paper to remove the gunk after you’ve applied oil. Remember to always scrub in the direction of the grain on your fretboard I like how you simply didn’t cut the strings first while removing. A lot of ppl do it and it doesn’t make sense to me. Also, while you’re changing your strings, it is the best time to clean your the other parts of your guitar such as the bridge, nut etc. It is also the time to do adjustments such as truss rod. With these basic maintenance, you can make your guitar last a lifetime.
And as I said in a comment here, taking even one string off is not good for the neck alignment. The truss rod is pulling the wooden neck the other way. Doing all of them at once will destroy the neck alignment/action. You’ll get buzzes and dead frets after several times of taking them all off at once, especially the longer they are off as you clean and oil. One string at a time as quickly as possible. You can clean and oil with the strings on.
Change the pins and saddle piece for metal ones. Brass works well. You can get good ‘compensated’ bridges in brass. This change will improve the brightness and bass response of your guitar. However if you have a Martin, the replacements will need filing down carefully before they are thin enough to fit a Martin bridge. Keep the old parts as purists may want to refit them when you sell them your guitar. But once you’ve made the switch you won’t go back.

Snip the excess string before you wind (so you don't poke your eye out) then snip again to tidy up. Now you're ready to rock.
Don't know if anyone does this but WD40 does the fretboard cleaning very well. Your guitar will smell for like two weeks but cleaning and impregnating the wood, it really helps. But WD40 is a deterrent, it will dry out so it's better to use some wood care oil after a few weeks.
