The First Step must not only be the one specially accented, but it must also be specially prolonged, occupying, in fact, exactly half the bar: that is, an interval and a half. The second step must be taken proportionately quickly, occupying only half an interval; while the remaining interval is occupied in taking the third step. Thus, it will be seen that the first step takes three times as long as the second and half as long as the third... The New Dancing As It Should Be" by Edward Scott 1910

Although you may see some dancers prolong the first step in this way today, it is not generally accepted and you do not see it from the leading champions. Some consider that it gives an ungainly jumping action that is out of character with the smoothness of the music.

This is an interesting point. As explained in this lecture th-cam.com/video/2PMFV3QDINc/w-d-xo.html the traditional figures of the dance have two-bar turns and one-bar change steps. The result is that not all turns can be aligned to the two-bar phrases of the music. The normal practice is to align the natural turns to the phrases and accept that the reverse turns are not aligned. But with more figures available, it becomes possible to align both the natural and reverse turns to the two-bar phrases.

You talk! talk! and talk! let us to be very anxious to see your dance. Then, when the dance comes, it is fast like a rocket we could not catch it, so how can you sell your books?. Let do it very slowly, slowly, very slowly... baby, we are not the professional dancer like you, we are TH-cam dancing student and catch it very slowly. Look at all comments, people seem to "not" understand what you try to show them, that's why they are talking something else.

Harry Smith Hampshire will be cringing in his grave. A natural spin and left whisk do not belong in this dance

There is a case to be made for extending the available figures: see th-cam.com/video/2PMFV3QDINc/w-d-xo.html
