This last season for me was a proof that SHE KNEW. SHE KNEW all along that her kids would hate her. She knew all along what it costs for her to achieve her dream. But she was brave to go for it. She was brave to stand in front of everyone who opposed her from day one and say This is what She is. Infront of everyone who did not understand her and say This is what it is. Proving herself time and again. But, all this did not change her nature one bit. She was the same self. She dint have to change her hairstyle, her dressing style, her sense of what is good and bad. She never hesitated to say Sorry. She never was rude nor was she overly timid. Heck, she didn't sleep with anyone as shown in every other similar story. She just got it with what she has.. knowing very well what it costs..
Yep. The device of not remembering her kids' names foreshadows what that relationship had been and how it would be. She knows that being a mother was never teally for her even though she did as expected and she knew that her personal ambition necessarily meant that it would come at the expense of having a normal relationship with her kids. I don't love the Palladino style very much, but this aspect of the character was done well.
@@gheller2261 from her perspective, well done, but her poor children didn't deserve the neglect. As someone raised in a house with a strong mother who basked in success and appreciation while I remained that fly in the wall, therapies won't heal the likes of us. I don't like how they glorify her parenting style in this show and it worries me how many women would put this on a pedestal to "follow their dreams" at the cost of their children's mental well being. You brought a child into this world, you sure as hell are responsible for taking care of it.
@@Adultwomanlol I don't think the program glorified her parenting style at all. If anything, it demonstrates that she is a person who probably was not suited to be a mother, certainly not in the traditional sense, but she was caught in the social morays of the time. Except she is portrayed as the rare woman of her era who decided that she wanted and needed more out of her life and had the strength to go after it. Otherwise, there would be no show for us to watch. Unfortunately, for Midge and her kids, the parenting part of her life had to suffer if she was going to be a success as an entertainer. There was no touchy feely "being a mother is my greatest joy" that we now see from celebrities when they sit next to the Jimmys, Colbert or Oprah. And I think in the portrayal of her kids as adults, we see the collateral damage that her "selfishness" (necessary as it was) caused her children. But, big but, at some point we all have to get past the damage our parents caused us (assuming that there was no physical, sexual or serious emotional abuse). Midge was not abusive to her kids, she was indifferent.
@TheAdultMom it doesn't always turn out bad. A lot of this show is based on Joan Rivers' career. Read a bit about her relationship with her daughter Melissa.
To me that's not bravery. It's selfishness. She chose to get married and have children. And then she chose to be a crappy parent to them because her dreams were more important than her own children. She was selfish. I have no issues with people chasing after their dreams, but they should not become parents. You can't have it all. And when you bring new humans into the world you have a duty and responsibility to them. What I really like about this show is the fact that it truly shows that a woman can't have it all. That has been a lie spread to women for far too long.
This is the best series (humour, fashion, emotion) I've seen in decades. Cried at the end of this scene, but absolutely bawled when Abe told his cronies that his daughter was remarkable. I, too felt sorry for Benjamin, and would have loved to have seen him again, but the inclusion of Hank Azaria was pure gold. I wish we'd seen more of him. He can make you laugh and cry in the same ten seconds. Give me a month and I'll be back watching this all over again from episode 1.
As soon as the last episode ended, I rewatched the whole series again. So glad I did. I could see some of what felt like obscure references the first time watching it and realized they weren't obscure at all. They were neatly tied in details from previous episodes. Not having to wait so long in between episodes really made that clear.
I recently finished this show. Was going through quite a major depression. This scene, this single snippet of this wonderful show is one of the triggers that helped me feel again and fight for a "Big life" One like Midge is talking about. It's making me want to fight to get back into acting. Claw my way back out of the darkness. So thank you Maisel, for all that you've given to this world.
I actually cried when Midge finally got to do her act. I kept saying she’s finally done it! This was such a great show I’ve been hooked since I decided to give it a go. Everyone in the show was fantastic.
The way I cried and didn’t know why for a few seconds but when she said “waiting around for something to happen” it just hit me how her life changed and even got difficult but she never gave up
I just finished this series a few days ago and I can't believe how much this scene just floored me to tears. I don't think I can live the same way again.
One of the hardest things about a great series is trying to create an ending that lives up to the show's greatness. I've found myself coming back and watching this clip a few times, and mulling the last season in general and there are a few things I've realized: 1) I love that they didn't try to create some pollyanna-type future where Midge manages to have all the fame with none of the drawbacks - instead, she's a multiple time divorcee workaholic with rocky relationships with her kids but she's also achieved greatness in her field; 2) I love that they didn't do some patronizing HEA with Joel or some last minute love interest to placate the many folk who think you can't be happy without a partner; and 3) I love that ALL the characters (Abe, Rose, Susie, etc) got serious character development - nobody remained static or, even worse, degenerated into a shallower version of their earlier character who remained solely for the purposes of shuffling the plot along: they all grew and matured as people. I loved this ending, and I love reading all the comments from others who loved it. This show deserves all the Emmys!
i see this scene atleast once every few months, just to cry. i followed the show from the start, and i love that show. the tense is used on purpose, because i still watch it to date. i skip a few months to forget, the go at it again. i fact, i should start on my season one
God, I am speechless. I have loved this show from the very beginning, and it got me a little nervous in season 4, not because it wasn't entertaining, but because I was worried we weren't sure exactly where we were going. My word how this season completely turned it around. I for one, was absolutely in love with all the flashforwards (especially Suzie's roast). It made Midge feel unbelievably real and it almost became like a biopic, waiting to see the moment that they made it, that you knew they had made it. This was it, and the fact that she took it for herself, on her terms, risked it all because she knew she had what it took to wow everyone in that room. And my god it was one of her best sets. Hilarious and heartfelt at the same time and utterly triumphant in a way only this show can do. One last thing before I let you go. I have been waiting the entire series for someone to call her The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, and let me tell ya, I wept tears of unabashed joy when Gordon said it to the crowd. I'm gonna miss this show so much, but I couldn't be happier to see it end in such a perfect note.
I think this is one of the greatest endings to one of the best shows of all time. This show gets slept on, but every episode and every season was consistently gold.
This show is not a stand up comedy genre per se, as It didn't make me laugh for the standup comedy bits as such, but, not to say the absolute hilarious moments that came in between now and then were worth it. It was more of a situational comedy, and the little world that this series developed, with all character development, and family comedies, warmth and friendships, everything about this show was very warm, cozy and funny. Susie, and Abe weisman were underrated. Moishe and shirley were hilarious, Rose was sophisticatedly funny. We get moments of love, bonding, realisations in the last scene very often. Precious moments of family and love. This season felt natural. Purely loved the dynamics, and character development, Gold comedy. Thankyou for giving me some of the best laughs of all time and some sobby moments too! And finally, this show wraps up beautifully by introducing me to this gem- " I stayed too long at the fair?" by Barbra Streisand. At the end, all they had, is thier friendship. Everything changed, but they, sat smiling and laughing, across different continents and enjoyed watching a show together, on a lazy day/night, that, is life, and friendship. Life is all about the little moments, and after making her life "big", maisel smiles and laughs together with susie, both of them who did that, who didn't wait for the door to open itself to lead them to another life, and now, after everything accomplished, The series ends with this song! Amazing. Beautiful. EDIT: for that one person who read this long comment of mine (and liked it), thankyou.:) you read this latenight 3 a.m bad grammar comment. and liked it too!!
Wow, during that 360 turn, the gradual change in the lighting and audio to reflect the Gaslight is genius. Such a nice touch in an already beautiful scene!🤌
What a great finale. There were some moments in the final season that I wasn’t too crazy about. But this finale remedied all of that for me. It was perfect 👌🏼
This show has been something else. I cannot even begin to describe what, but I’m sure it will stay in the history of television and entertainment. Thank you everyone involved for bringing this show to us!
Between the Steadicam scene with the taxi drivers, this scene, and the glorious friendship between Midge and Suzie, this was, hands down, the best finale in history. Characters who genuinely love each other through all kinds of weather. Female empowerment. Unbeatable writing, set design, costume design and cinematography, TMMM deserves a place in everyone's all-time top ten TV list.
This is the best pay-off for a series that I have ever seen! I'd been following her for the past 5 years hoping to see her success, and this is how you do it!!! I can watch this scene over and over again. And the end scene is also the best and will remain with me for years to come.
IMO one of the great moments in Television history (or whatever we call it now). Such a satisfying payoff after watching for five years! Its the exact ending we were all hoping for from day one. Even though we already knew she "made it", the tension/release effect of this sequence is pure torture/joy!!

The show deserves every accolade that it received and so much more. I am constantly recommending this to people (men and woman alike) who are looking for comedy in their lives.
I was thinking about this incredible last performance and episode, that Midge's character seemed to be based on the late, great Joan Rivers. What a beautiful, finale to a great series......

EXCELLENT season and wonderful way to wrap up the series. Season 5 definitely makes up for crappy season 4, and takes us back to what was so good about this show in the first place. I love how the show went back and forth in time showing us what was to come. But I especially liked the final scene with Lenny where it tied back to the first show of this season.
and the scene after this shows where lenny was teaching her how to act as a famous person. made me even cry more, he's one of those people that truly believed in her even from the beginning.
I still think Ethan should go to public school in Queens - having him in Forest Hills High at the same time as The Ramones would be the perfect setup for a sequel series.
I loved this, and I know it (and the last two seasons) was intentionally designed to be her getting to the beginning (and, despite how frustrated it made me at times, I really do appreciate how they told her story and helped us to really understand who she really is, as opposed to who she thought she had to be), but I swear, I can’t say I won’t throw a fit if they don’t, at some point, do a special that is just Midge stand up. We hardly got any in the last two seasons! THEY OWE US.
IMO - this should have been the closing 5 minutes of the series!!! The stuff they showed us after this scene should have been worked in before it. Still, have to say I LOVED the entire series from beginning to end!! Especially the fabulous music used throughout!!!!!!
Well, they call the episode "Four Minutes" and that's what they kept saying, but if you time it out, she performed for almost 7 minutes. Creative license.

Suzie putting her hand on her chest at the end, and Midge and her with tears in their eyes. There's acting....and then there's true love and respect that these women have in real life for one another. I'm going to watch the whole series again and again until they take it off the air! Priceless!!
I loved how Joel was so proud of her and then Midge blew him a kiss.
Divorced but forever best friends. It be like that sometimes..
I have never laughed, yelled, and sobbed so hard from a show before. Was cathartic. This show really makes you think about things.
@@rscats67 this weekend I'm back in!
the fact that it's full circle - she started her ranting/stand-up from Joel and finished it by including him. Also the dimmed light scene made me cry!
This was one of the best TV series endings I have ever seen. I was definitely satisfied.
It was definitely Rachel and Alex crying in the end and not Midge and Susie. 🥺😭
Absolutely! Great ride, great ending!!!!💕
Yes! They actually admited that
And me crying right along with them😂 I loved that moment
Literally
The way she's laughing at the end is so cute and genuine. I don't think we've heard that laugh before ❤
I actually cried when Midge finally got to do her act.
Same
It only took 5 years but she finally got her parent’s approval.
And a Golden Globe !!!!!!!😊
My GOD. This finale was PERFECTTTT! We'll miss you Midge.
I loved the finale, it stuck the landing. It was Marvelous.
i see this scene atleast once every few months, just to cry. i followed the show from the start, and i love that show. the tense is used on purpose, because i still watch it to date. i skip a few months to forget, the go at it again. i fact, i should start on my season one
We lived and loved each moment of the Magnificent, Magical, and Marvelous Mrs Maisel!
4:45 The part with Susie gets me every time!
One of the best shows ever:)
Joining the chorus of praise, this was a truly brilliant and deeply gratifying finale. Perfectly written, directed and acted - BRAVO!
I makes me cry, happy tears every time I watch it… bravo
I am really praying all the Emmys of this year to go to this series
IMO one of the great moments in Television history (or whatever we call it now). Such a satisfying payoff after watching for five years! Its the exact ending we were all hoping for from day one. Even though we already knew she "made it", the tension/release effect of this sequence is pure torture/joy!!
this show ended beautifully, a perfect ending to a brilliant show, thank you creators.
My heart aches for Benjamin, I wish she ended up with him. But still, what an ending! Terrific indeed.
Me too...
Likewise. It's nice to know there are other 'Mrs. Maisel' fans who feel as I do.
Incompatible life styles and dreams. DO NOT MARYY SOMEONE WHOSE LIFESTYLE IS NOT SOMETHING YOU CAN CO-EXIST WITH OR WHO CANNOT CO-EXIST WITH YOUR LIFESTYLE. Don't do it, Bad idea. Doesn't matter if you love them.
I think it was a fair history for him
Meh. He was too milquetoast for Midge.
Nailed the landing.
"Holy Sh%t" That pretty much summed it up! and the laugh that the looks on everyone's face as she was asked to sit ... SO Wonderful! The show deserves every accolade that it received and so much more. I am constantly recommending this to people (men and woman alike) who are looking for comedy in their lives.
The best written show , one of my favorite shows of all time
lighting it like the Gaslight was *chefs kiss*
This is probably the most powerful and moving 5 minutes of television to ever be conceived
Joel in the audience, "That's my ex wife!" 😆
Love this ending. Esp the self aware joking about the kids. Brilliant.
The look Suzy and midge share …. Ooofffff
Hits me right in the feels
I was thinking about this incredible last performance and episode, that Midge's character seemed to be based on the late, great Joan Rivers. What a beautiful, finale to a great series......
Why didn’t you put the whole act here?
I loved this ending. What an amazing end to a fantastic show. Kudos to the writers.
One of my fav series finales! I actually applauded during this scene, so proud of Midge!
amazing ending for a great show
From the marvelous Mrs. Maisel to now playing Lois Lane in the DCU. Wow Rachel Brosnahan has come far.
@@SpacePenguinQueen I haven’t seen her in that though.
She is a wonderful actress ! Love her!
Honestly.... If there's anyone watching this clip, who hasn't seen the series, you're missing out on something very special.
One of the best shows that's ever been on tv imo.
I wish it would get a DVD release
Gordon: “You’re fired.”
Midge: “You, too.”
😂😂
Can we throw a little love at Reid Scott who totally CRUSHED this role? He was “The guy from VEEP” now he’s Gordon Ford. 👍🏼
He'll always be Brendan from My Boys to me!
ABSOLUTE Sprinkles on the cherry on top! Wonderful writing Amy and Dan! The tension was so masterful!! I will truly miss your show. Kudos to all; CAST, CREW, ABOVE AND MUCH LOVE TO ALL BELOW THE LINE FOLKS WHO HAVE A DREAM LIKE MIDGE'S!!
I absolutely bawled at this. Absolutely inspiring 💕 perfect ending but I'm so sad it's over
I am 8 months pregnant and am watching this scene for the umpteenth time and I started tearing up! Especially at her mom being so proud of her!
The moment Susie put her hand on her ❤️
Geez I've seen this a gazillion times and I am teary-eyed each time 😭
EXCELLENT season and wonderful way to wrap up the series. Season 5 definitely makes up for crappy season 4, and takes us back to what was so good about this show in the first place. I love how the show went back and forth in time showing us what was to come. But I especially liked the final scene with Lenny where it tied back to the first show of this season.
it was difficult to think of such a moving finale to one of the funniest series ever - and they've done it!! So GREAT!!
Oh that last look between Midge and Susie 🥹🥹❤️❤️❤️
One of the best shows in the past 2 decades at least. Sad to see them go but a wonderful last season.
love this show. made me laugh. made me cry and made me go OMG when Gordon offered her a seat.
I laughed and cried so hard with this finale, it was just perfect.
this was my favorite show I've binged the first four season two times !!
This is loosely based on Joan Rivers. Joan got a set on the Tonight Show and at the end was shocked when Johnny Carson waved her over.
We need more shows like this!
and the scene after this shows where lenny was teaching her how to act as a famous person. made me even cry more, he's one of those people that truly believed in her even from the beginning.
One of the greatest title drops in the history of TV
I still think Ethan should go to public school in Queens - having him in Forest Hills High at the same time as The Ramones would be the perfect setup for a sequel series.
Being a coward is only cute in the wizard of oz is such a good line
In my opinion, the first three seasons were the peak of this show, but well, this final episode was still great.
Abe and Rose being so proud ❤❤❤😭😭😭
I definitely cried at the end.
IMO - this should have been the closing 5 minutes of the series!!! The stuff they showed us after this scene should have been worked in before it. Still, have to say I LOVED the entire series from beginning to end!! Especially the fabulous music used throughout!!!!!!
What a marvelous brilliant show! I’ll miss it a lot!
This scene was just pure perfection i was in tears by the end of it ✨❤
I wish this clip was a few minutes longer from the point where she tells Gordon that she's never been good at following the rules.
Well, they call the episode "Four Minutes" and that's what they kept saying, but if you time it out, she performed for almost 7 minutes. Creative license.
This is one of the greatest shows that came out last 5-6 years. Too bad Amazon cancelled it, We at least deserve a movie!
And I'm crying again. This finale wore me out!!
Fantastic ending to a fantastic show.
Take a bow.
Give the people what they wanted.
Who’s still cutting onions after the 10th time I’ve watched this?
One of the most satisfying moments in tv history
The moment when Susie puts her hand over her heart. 🥹
She made it!
One of the best shows and endings ever made.
