Nice! Got everyone together here! My channel is tiny compared to the heavy hitters you had on the panel here, but I notice the exact same thing. I've ALWAYS known in life, you can't please everyone, so I just do what I do and don't worry much about it. It's hard enough running ONE channel. I'm all set with starting another! Great stuff as always Dan & Christy! 👍🍻
Juan, I was so excited to get my picture with you that no sooner did I walk away from the stage and look at the picture than half my face was cut off. I’m gonna come find you again someday and get a real picture!
Wow! What a great idea you two! Thanks to the panel and attendees. I so agree with Chrissie with her answer to the last audience's question and boy can see that she is flying high. Good on her! :)
Great discussion and I wish I could have been there. I surprised myself in not knowing at least half of the participants. Looks like I need to watch more youtube videos. Great job TakingOff.
Guys - thanks so much! All of those familiar faces, voices, and yes - quirks and humour - under the same tent! One of the best interviews / talk-back shows going. Thanks to each and every one of you for sharing your passion as you do!
Thanks guys for posting this, I follow Juan, Martin, Scott and Mark but you've introduced me to a lot of new great content. P.s. In the Hanger keeps getting better. Thanks guys.
You guys...Brian's the Best! haha. Thanks for the great informative video! Christie's chart leggings never get old. First saw them, and her, with Bobby on Flying Doodles. Very cute.
It was great talking to everyone. Christy thanks for the good advice!😀 Hoping this change with divorce, moving back to where I grew up, and some big future decisions brings back the passion I had and a more fulfilling life.
Thanks, Dan, for getting these folks together, so many of which I am faithfully subscribed to. My dream is to complete my license and be able to create content as an older flyer.
Had to stop Video at 12:10 min in to comment . I am amazed that people can't enjoy anything that a channel puts out, as they can FF or come back When they see a video that they like. I get stoked when Pilots like myself show other adventures. Blancolirio does a cool job he has Three different contents Flying, commenting, and Dirt Biking Keep all the videos coming all of you now back to the remaining Taking off
Juan’s channel is one of the more unique ones I follow because of his mix of topics. I initially found him because of the Oroville Dam videos, and then stuck around for the flying stuff. He even used some of my footage in one of his videos. But I hardly ever watch the motorcycle stuff because I’m not into it. That’s ok, though, and I don’t really think he should split his channel. It’s Juan and he does his thing, that’s what I’m subscribed to.

@@fltof2 You make an EXCELLENT point inline with what Dan M. had said. From a commercial programming standpoint, if you have a "channel" usually you have different "shows" or "programs" on that "channel". I may watch the news on a channel but change channels because the next program on cooking isn't my thing, but the show after that on bush flying is.
@@fltof2 Same here! I was into aviation, but found Juan when the Oroville dam broke. Then it just happened that he flies, AND rides dirt bikes! 2 hobbies I live for! Was funny how that worked out!
Thanks for the video. since I wasn’t there I really appreciate having the opportunity to watch all my favorite content creators on TH-cam. Safe travels.
These folk seem almost like friends, because it's a two way via the comments section. In the UK it's even more close knit as someone often knows a You Tuber or knows someone who does. I've learnt so much from all of these You Tube creators - thank you for all of your hard work. Well done and well said Christy, you were very brave and followed your heart. I wish I'd done that at 25 (when I came to a career crossroads), but I ploughed on in a high paid job that I didn't like and it did me little good by not following my dreams. I still hope one day to fly for fun though, but life goes past so fast, too fast 😉😲🙄😕✌️😊 Grab happiness when and where you can✌️👍😊😊
Wow, Christy, your comments at the end really struck a cord with me. I LOVE flying and have been a pilot since I was a teenager and own two airplanes now with one used as a trainer for our kids to learn to fly. I am going to send this video to them to watch because I’m hopeful that at least one will choose a career in aviation (sadly I did not) and listen to what you had to say. Thanks so much!
I've watched most of your videos and was gutted not to see you here in Blighty... But this has got to be THE BEST EVER video you guys have done. Thank you Dan & Kristy.
This was a lot of fun! It introduced me to several content creators with whom I was not familiar. I also enjoyed being able to speak with Dan, Martin, Scott and Juan.
This was an awesome episode Dan and Christy, thank you. Really cool to hear from so many creators all together. Great information for those wanting to get into creating content, like myself. I haven't seen anything from Cory Robbin for a while, almost didn't recognize him. Thank you for bringing us this extra special episode. Keep up the excellent work as always. Safe sky's. 🤘🇺🇸🛩️
I can relate to Christy's changing jobs story. I started working on my commerical license, switched to Avionics Tech, and was able to fly my C-140... But 2 years later I decided to go back to college for an engineering degree, not in aviation. 30 years later I really want to get back to aviation and ponder what if I never left Avionics. Thanks to these creators, I am getting the encouragement to do so. I was at Oshkosh this year but missed this event.
Thanks for recording this forum, unfortunately the introductions were not included so I do not know many of the creators. I had hoped to attend but something happened the last minute so I could not, but at least I got the flavor. How about a repeat next year!
I don’t follow everyone on that stage and with that being said the channels I do watch is mainly to see what I can do to be a safer pilot . If you pay attention you can learn something from every video. I watch Brian because I like to laugh. Thanks to all of you and what you do.
Anytime BrYan gets the idea to create a serious video, all he has to do is bring his little smart-ass clone 😆😂🤣 with him. There is your comic relief right there. "Dad... isn't this where you can marry your cousin???" SMDH....🤣🤣🤣🤩
Poor BrYan. He got it pretty badly a couple of times there, yet, out of all of these content creators, he is in the top three favorites of mine. I am thankful for him for brightening my day. I want to go back to the commentary on Channel content. Kris brought up flying the Baron and then flying the jets, and quite honestly, I love both, because it gives us a larger insight into what flying, whether personal or for money, can accomplish and that you can do both. BrYan, great comedy channel, I love his sense of humor, but some of the best stuff I've seen from him is non-comedic stuff, his flying IFR with Martin, or accidentally shutting down the generator switch in the Comanche. That's real world, and it's not some multi-thousand hour hot shot pilot, it's you and me. People need to realize that these channels are, like Dan said, channels, with content that isn't just devoted to one thing. Trent Palmer comes to mind, he puts out some amazing stuff in addition to flying the Freedom Fox. I hope he gets the FAA to get off his back. I want to thank all of you for putting out great content that I enjoy watching, and that others enjoy watching, even if I don't watch or follow your channel.
02:45 - Shout out to Landon!!! We hear you asking for us! Unfortunately we weren't invited to the panel but our advice is to stay engaged with the aviation community. Keep learning and making friends! Don't be shy to ask for advice or help from people you respect. The aviation world is extremely small and the people you meet along the way - even before you are in flight training - will be the biggest source of help and encouragement you can imagine throughout your entire career. Opportunities come to those who show up, so do your best to be an active part of the community! If you somehow see this, get in touch with us and we'll come find you next year!
Content creators. When I think of aviation and fun I think of Jimmy's World. When I think of aviation and safety it's Juan Brown and Dan Grider. When I think of aviation and dedication to innovation and attention to details, no one beats Mike Patey. When I think of aviation and it's usefulness, there is Missionary Bush Pilot. Then there is the free Cessna 401. Now, if there was one moment in all of the creative content I watched, one stands out to me above all the rest. That was when Jimmy Webb's son came out of the Hobby Shop, dressed as a young Tom Cruise, carrying the most expensive plane they sold. OMG, I'm still laughing about that one. Pure Genius.
around 28:00 I sometimes record my own flights either because I'm doing something challenging that I want to debrief or I'm flying somewhere really cool. I have a hard and fast rule: If the engine is running, I don't touch the cameras or audio recorder. I have a homemade checklist and I added to the before start section, "recording devices set" and I added to the securing section, "recording devices stopped". Sometimes I've missed an awesome shot, but so freakin' what? at least I did the important thing, which is to have a safe flight! The 2 common failures that I need to predict and prepare for during my preflight is protecting the camera from sun/overheat and providing enough electrical endurance for the camera to run non-stop. Oh yea, and I need about an hour extra during preflight to get everything set up and mounted the way I like.
Huh. This panel didn't go in the direction I expected. Someone on the panel called it out toward the end, but it turned into a "how to TH-cam" video and I was expecting to get to know some of the content creators better. Brian stole the show though. He was the punch line of more than a few jokes and that's telling. Cristy talking about her history was probably the most interesting to me because I am in a similar position. Just like the audience member that prompted the discussion; whats the right choice? Cest la vie.
Amazing I told Cory about a year ago that being a youtube creator is having a business. It was a business. He came back and said that when his channel became a business he would shut it down. I wonder what change or when he changed his mind?
I haven't filmed in a year... so I guess I have a duplicitous mind about it. And I am not saying that it's bad or good to make it a business... For me, I do it for fun. That works for me. But it is ok to also make money and run it like a business. :)
I would have asked a question for THE Baron Pilot's daughter. 😋 I know that studying for your pilot's cert is easier when you routinely fly with someone in a complex plane and you learn much more than you would without that experience, but I would have asked her if it had any negative results that are unexpected.
