It's a great pity that EON never offered Bikel another role as a Bond villain. I think he would have been superb as a more true-to-Fleming Blofeld than anyone who's played the character
It's really amazing that screentests like these can still be seen today, while deleted scenes like the London chase in OHMSS has been lost by time! Gert Frobe was excellent as Goldfinger!
Very interesting approach by Bikel. Very subdued and more like a businessman or technocrat. This impression is strengthened by the glasses. There's malice in his voice and face when he's talking about the laser but he has himself under control. Fröbe is like the rich spoiled kid that shows off his toys and has this openly fake joviality which turns into a vicious smile as soon as the laser was ignited.
It's funny how the final dialogue in the movie is so much more crisp. They threw away almost everything. Especially all these Q and M remarks, which are really unnecessary. And I like the line about dismembering Bond. That's a good one.
Bikel was a good actor but he appears like a technocratic, yet basically nice uncle (similar to Donald Pleasence as Blofeld later), not a menacing villain. The casting of Fröbe worked far better.

I love Theodore Bikel. Make a great villain. Surprising he was never a Bond baddie
Exactly what I was thinking.
A great and talented actor all around -- not just villains!
Glad they went with Gert Fobe
A brilliant performance.
Should've been Blofeld in Diamonds are forever
Or Donald Pleasence in OHMSS and DAF
@@RobertK1993 Telly Savalas nailed Blofeld in Ohmss he looked like he'd beat the shit out of Pleasance
He was great in this test... would've made a great villain in another film

Absolutely spectacular
He's perfect as an accountant for the mob.
I like how he smile and seconds after makes serious face, just sayin :)
He maybe isnt Goldfinger but would be an amazing Blofeld

Four O Clock
I remember him from Columbo
Interesting!
I get a tele savalas vibe from him.
Wonder who was playing Bond on this?
I believe it was director Guy Hamilton
Where did you find this?
I found it on TH-cam but it is available on the special feature section of the Goldfinger special edition dvds
It’s on the Blu-ray as a bonus in good quality
Ok
