Maybe I’m just stupid but I totally thought this podcast ended and was just uploading old content. Glad to see it’s still going :)

It's weird because in New episodes they sometimes talk about movies coming out soon or having been announced. Maybe my spotify just has the dates all messed up?

I was so excited for this ep but then they didn't even talk about the movie!
I mean the scene where he drives his truck into the river, the whole bee vs bee fight, the entire ending. Then all of the audience questions were awful

This should be a 3 hr. episode. They miss so much and don't delve deep enough as to why this low quality production was just absurd fun but kind of mirroring the zeitgeist of the real world too (i.e. government incompetence, corruption of the wealthy, etc.). Fantastic one liners! I think this movie was the first movie that threw together a bunch of genres, or characters from different genres, that made it fantastic entertainment. The overall plot/storyline is as absurd as a 20th century Jackie Chan movie, and even though the characters barely speak, when they do it's a great action one liner or somehow makes it hilarious. Statham speaks the least, but is the ONLY character with heart not playing a sociopolitical hierarchy game. The bad guys really are reflections of real world POS dooshes. Sorry to gush, but for such a strange group of characters, each one is written & acted brilliantly! Almost like all the spider characters from Spiderman: Into the Spider-verse. David Ayer, once again, goes a bit deeper with the writing than average schlock and kills it! I think that's why it's so entertaining, you know NOTHING about the protagonist - he's just an outlier - and ALL the villain characters talk sh*t brilliantly but can't back it up & are related to one another in a way that plays great.
How do they not talk about the 1st son holding his own mother hostage at the climax? Also, while the character comes out of NOWHERE (he literally just appears as villain enforcer #1 with less than 10 min left in the movie), the entertaining S. African should've been discussed.
Magnificent fun storytelling, taking a 90's lone hero action film but mocking the crap out of that genre's machismo and mixing it with absurd comedic villains as if the protagonist were leveling up through Double Dragon for the original NES. That's what it is, a mashup of 80s + 90s lone hero asskicking, Tarantino B-movie absurd comedy, and a pre millenium video game! It's as wtf absurd as Big Trouble In Little China, and worth every second!

Agreed. But I find a lot of the episodes nowadays are. Still... I love them too much to let the hold me from listening.
But, in this one, they hardly scraped the surface... They for sure could've dissected Statham's various slaughterhouse action scenes - I mean, he cuts the fingers off of a guy and then tethers him to a car that he sends off of a bridge at full speed. Now, that should be peak HDTGM content.
