  • Fun fact: 8 out of the 10 most popular podcasts on the web are from NPR. Man oh man!
How does NPR create such good content? How do they separate themselves from the MILLIONS of other podcasts out there? How do they manage to hook your attention?
6 months ago, I started my own podcast Noah Kagan Presents: okdork.com/podc...
But it wasn't as good as I wanted it to be. For example, in one of my earlier episodes with Tim Ferriss you can hear how scattered the questions are: okdork.com/tim-...
I wanted to know how I could make my podcast AMAZING - and eventually reach 100,000 downloads per episode.
To learn key insights into creating great content which hooks the listener, I asked Nick Fountain to help. Nick's the NPR Producer behind Planet Money, aka one of the most popular podcasts in the world.
    Nick's insights can help you...
    1) Make your podcast better (so you can reach 100,000 listeners)
    2) Improve ANY type of content you have - and attract more customers
    3) Get obsessed fans who come back to your content again... and again... and again...
Check out the video to learn the secrets of NPR - and how you can use those same principles yourself.

What's the BEST content lesson you've ever heard? It can be for a podcast, blog post, or anything else. Share your knowledge. :)

I learned how to make a content calendar from Kelsey Humphries host of The Pursuit. Make a scheduled of topics 1 for each month of the year. Brake down each month into 4 to 5 weeks. Expand on each months topic. For example lets say in January my topic was about Fear and I broke it down to What is fear, How fear works, Layers of fear and Over coming fear. I could Email my list, Blog, make a Podcast or a Video or do all 4 of them on 1 of those sub topic. I do this once a week. A great way to find what's trending in the topic you care about can be found at buzzsumo.com/ Hope that this was helpful Noah! I like the revised shorten TH-cam version of this podcast episode. Thanks Noah!

I worked for NPR and your insights are spot on. The story, its narration and its editing using multiple b-roll clips help submerge a listener into a podcast. Civics 101 and Bearbrook podcasts from NHPR are great examples.

Hey, here from Brazil, I have to say: This was your best podcast content, ever, so practical! Just like the one about Jim Rohn´s book.
You have such actionable advice, and at this time people should have discovered you!
I will be your preacher here and share with everybody your content, let's get those 100k subscribers til the end of the year!

Not being afraid to trim the episodes is spot on! My listener retention rate has went up a lot since keeping the most meaty parts within a 30 minute episode.

Started a new podcast "The Tango 1 Podcast" I am a former Swat team leader and were focusing on Doing More And Being more, interviewing high impact individuals in our community. In an early episode our co-host shares his childhood story of being attacked by a WOLF!!!!, The tips in this video definitely will help (and if this sounds interesting check it out !)

Podcast is powerful medium that fosters discussions and allows people to connect with the industry they are interested in. Many believe that it is the top content platform today due to the following reasons:
    - Podcasting is the only content platform that allows indirect consumption. People can listen and learn while also doing something else.
    - Podcasts are consumed for longer periods of time. The average length of a TH-cam video is 4 minutes and 20 seconds. If it is too long, people would quickly lose interest and the same goes for reading a blog post. Podcasts can last for over an hour and people would still listen.
    - Podcasting helps build a stronger relationship with your audience. It connects you to your followers that cannot be duplicated by any other medium. The reason for this is quite simple. Podcasts has a voice. It is this voice that breathes life into the content.
Anyways, read the below. This might help.

Recording 10 hours worth of material for one episode and then cutting it up seems very extensive and unnecessary.

Introducing the 3-D Podcast. No 3-D glasses necessary. One day 3 D***heads who met as fans of a podcast decided to make their own podcast. Riveting story huh? Anyways tag along for some shits, giggles and maybe a few rants and roasts.
