I find it kind of silly how westerners ALWAYS overhype any type of music party and feel the need to make it crazy but the slavs are almost always just chilling with their fellow gopniks.
You have awakened in me deep, so to speak, memories. Once, in 2009, another batch of "newest" discs with "licensed" games arrived in our small, post-Soviet town (well, if you see "Games for windows" on them, then they are certainly licensed, how could it be otherwise?) And from one of these discs I met the Stalker world then. The disc cost, like everything else on the shelf, 400 rubles (about 12 dollars at the rate of that year), and contained inside, as I found out much later, a disgusting pirated build of the very first game with a damn stockpile of built-in, equally disgusting mods. But, despite crashes every half hour, I was amazed by the graphics (at minimum settings and at 15 fps, of course, but back then it was the norm), gameplay, and the atmosphere, of course. And then I heard this music, which somehow penetrated my soul. That was direct hit. The most memorable memory from the first acquaintance was that time did not stop when entering the inventory or during a search, unlike Fallout 3 (which got to me a little earlier), so at that moment you could easily be shot, which happened several times... That version of the game crashed every time when I attempted to go to one of the plot-significant locations, so I never went through it to the end (this happened much, much later than even the walkthrough of the next two parts, which reached us a year later, this happened only when we got accessible Internet - that is, in about 2014), but, in spite of everything, exactly the first version of the first game from that very disc remained in my memory forever. Along with a bunch of content and locations poorly restored by pirates, with crashes, along with disgusting graphics and framerate (by today's standards), with an unspeakably flawed balance... All this is true, but also there was that atmosphere and that music. And it was unspeakably cool. Maybe that's why the series became legendary? How did you get to know this game? What was your personal story? Someone read this to the end? I would like to know.
I first played stalker in 2012, much like your story, it was a pirated version. I didn’t play it again until 2018 but it sucked me right back into it. It’s one of my favourite games atmosphere wise
I was still a kid when I played it first time. My father pirated it along few another games. I was sometimes playing some sgames on his PC and one time I launched 'wrong' game... oh boy, me going on first quest and getting scared and attacked by group of dogs XD Also, it had terrible Polish translation...
