I think the Nanochip thing comes from the fact that when Ben first transformed into Nanomech, Gwen remarked "He's become some kind of NANO mechanical organism. Just like the chips." It's how Nanomech got his name, and with Gwen comparing the chips to being nano mechanical organisms, I can see how fans kinda just subconsciously went 'oh they're called nanochips'

On the topic of the Cosmic Mom, I feel the need to add something. All the logic related to why it can't be definitively assumed that she's a Naljian is completely sound, and I agree with it. We cannot, with the information provided, state as a fact that the Cosmic Mom is a naljian. But I think it's important to acknowledge that the cosmic mom never called it a "Naljian Destructor", only the Vreedles did. The Cosmic mom only calls it her "daughters favorite toy." Based on how the naming scheme in Ben 10 usually works, characters would absolutely refer to something like the cube as "species it's assumed to come from: presumed purpose" similar to the way characters talked about the Contumelia. (At least to my memory.) The Cosmic Mom may not be a Naljian, but based on everything we can infer from the cube's name, it's very likely to be what the aliens of the Ben 10 universe call her species. At the very least, I would say that if any future writers touch on the Cosmic Mom, it's very unlikely they would call her species anything other than Naljian. I think changing her page to not include the name "The Naljian" as at least an alias is unnecessary, and makes searching for her page more difficult.
In Turkish his name was translated as "İnsanazor" (Human-a-saur) so at least in Turkey you cant mix up Humungusaur's name coming from being humungous as that is translated as "Devasa" which is not even close to being "insan" so yeah... I thought I was gaslit into believing Humungusaur's original name DID come from Humungous-saur.
Happy 17th Anniversary, Ben 10 Wiki! Glad to see the community coming together to fix it up and actually make it a reliable encyclopedia of the show's mythology rather than just be a mess of information that is false, missing, or clashes with each other. A lot of wikis for many media should follow this mindset. Definitely would save everyone a lot of trouble...
This makes me realize if I ever work on a piece of fiction or create a franchise I will just say “This is a collaborative effort between other directors, writers, artist, and myself. Even though I’m answering your questions they are just MY headcannon beliefs.” That way there isn’t so much confusion or contradiction. And it would help a lot if people were honest and upfront about what things they worked on and what they didn’t.
I always love to believe that Queen Horatia Rumbletum of the Gourmands is the daughter of a king Perk Gourmand and a Queen Murk Gourmand and I was starting to think that Buzzshock and Feedback, because of similar appearances, are related in some way.
I think Derrick's answers were always tricky, since he mostly worked on self-contained reboots and had a blunt & irreverent sense of humor, so he was probably used to easily excluding stuff he didn't like or making up sarcastic joke answers & plot points. Saying that out loud, he might've actually been a better fit for the 2016 Reboot, since that show had squishier art, a more light-hearted tone, and was a unique continuity.
I thought he fit Omniverse really well. Especially since it had so many people from Transformers Animated work on it, and Derrick was the art director and a showrunner on that.
I even remember reading something on the wiki that by late Omniverse, Gwen and Kevin had sex. I don't even remember which page it was and why it was there but it isn't anymore, it was even a writer's statement with a link to support
@@SecretMagician On a children's wiki... I used to read Ben 10 Planet as a kid a lot. Good thing that info was deleted. Funny thing, the wiki says Big Chill reproduced "genderlessly" instead of "asexually". For the kids, eh?
For me, the only reliable and 100% canon information is that presented in the show itself since things like third-party products, info-cards and producer statements are always subject to change, retcon or were just invented on the spot.
This is very true. Many writers all telling us pretty production ideas, concept art, scrapped story lines, ect ect is fun, but people give it too much weight when these things contradict the actual story we see.
With regard to the DVD subtitles being inaccurate at times. It’s my understanding that subtitles (in any media) are based on the script, like copy and paste. It saves massive amounts of time compared to someone transcribing all the lines. If the actor gives a slightly different take on the line but it’s close enough, they don’t bother changing it.
A lot of tech and items in the show get referred to as where they came from. Techadon Robots, Tetramand engine, etc. So someone at some point knew the Destructor was from the Naljian race, then everyone referred to it as such after that.
Definitely. The series has more instances of things being named after their race than instances of them not. I guess the main difference is that Techadon Robots and Tetramands are recurring creatures in the series, while the "Naljian" species is as much of a one-off as The Great One from Cannonbolt's bebut or the gold-shitting Gremlins from "Fool's Gold"
except the characters that call it a Naljian Destructor had no idea it was a toy that belonged to the Cosmic Kid. so if anything the Naljians ould the race that first found the Toy & use it as a weapon
@@Artista_Frustrado Could be possible 🤔 We just don't really have much info on the Cosmic species, Naljians, Naljian Destructor, or anything regarding them, so we just don't know for sure.

Microchips actually makes sense, as they aren't really "Nano" but are more like the Microbots from Big Hero 6. In comparison to the Nanomachines from something like Metal Gear Rising, where nano is more like cell sized items, "Micro" feels more fitting.
Now that you say it, I just remembered they had a whole ass battle while in the brain as a battlefield So the Queen was small as fuck despite being the most powerful in the hive, way smaller than the drones in the movie Tho Nanomech had the ability to change size, so she most likely can do it. But still, the abyssmal size difference is funny
Not really, because you have to think what were show producers thinking rather what is more logical in our universe. It makes complete sense for writers to name the technology after the speices using it, which happened multiple times in the show anyway
@@abdalln8554 sure but, i dunno. just 'cause it's a trope elsewhere doesn't mean that's what they're going for here. the Glass Cup analogy still holds sway over me. plus, again: she's referred to as "Cosmic Mom" in the credits. so, there's really no basis in canon. if they wanted to, if this was what they were going for, they could've called her "Naljian Mom" or "Naljian Mother"... but they didn't
Kevin being a mutant still feels like a more reasonable assumption than him being part alien. You had Clamcy, the Circus Freaks, all those wrestlers in the wrestling episode. Plus magic users like Hex and Charmcaster. Kevin wasn't that weird by comparison. He was just a kid with energy absorption powers, no different from all the other humans with superpowers.
@@theamazingspooderman2697 , the Grandmother of Ben and Gwen were also retcons from UAF besides Gwen not having Magical abilities anymore and Kevin going from a Mutant to an Alien Hybrid.
Yeah, I prefer Kevin being a mutant rather than part alien. I just think it's more fun when the alien force crew's abilities come from different sources, that being aliens, magic, and mutations.
At the end of the day Ben 10 is a long running franchise that spanned multiple series and writing crews all with their own ideas and their own “canon”, and those ideas aren’t always translated well into the actual episodes, for example giving the context the Ben’s in AXT were meant to be Ben Prime but that wasn’t properly conveyed in the episode itself which left a lot open to interpretation and the original intent was lost to the point when later on when asked Duncan rescinded his initial statement. Another issue is that there are many popular fan head-canons that are always presented as fact by many vocal members of the fan base like the popular one about how “when Ben meets his future-self his future changes” which has absolutely no basis in the show and has never been supported by any crew member or official media, but it’s treated as “fact” because people spread it around as such, so is the Original Ben 10’000 and the Omniverse Ben 10’000 the same person and Ben’s definitive future? Yes, No, Maybe? With the inconsistencies with the crew statements and in the show itself there is no concrete answer and it can go either way. With many concepts left open to interpretation there are no definitive answers.
It’s so interesting how the show incorporated fans input by taking info from the wiki and putting into official Ben 10 media, if not the actual show dvd covers and comic books are still really nostalgic media for some to own from their favorite franchise and some I appreciate them using fans interpretations instead of just BSing something off the spot. It shows that even in the fandoms early days there was a relationship between fans and official media that I don’t know if you find in other franchises like Ben 10 I’m sure there are but Ben 10 has always felt like it was made for people to enjoy and interact with more than just watching they want us to have our own theories and insights
If I recall correctly, you never see Maltruant referring to the bomb with that name, it's always some other character who did so. From their point of view, calling it a Chronosapien time bomb is understandable, just like aliens referring to cups as "Human cups" is understandable
Happy 17th Anniversary to the Ben 10 Planet Wiki, it really has grown into a great source of all of Ben 10's history and really great video debunking a lot of the misinformation over the years (still crazy that some of these made it to the actual shows)
I don't agree with Alien Force having 3 seasons cause 'that's the way it was aired' That would be like putting Firefly episodes in the order they aired even though the creators let everyone know Fox showed them completely out of order
About the Naljian thing, I don't think that it would be unusual to assume that the toy "Naljian Destructor" would be named after the species of Naljians. For the glass cup example, we humans wouldn't call it a "human cup" to each other, since we know that it is made by humans already, but perhaps other extraterrestrial species might refer to it as "a human cup" because the cups they have are distinct from what we have. And also, we might refer to it as a "human cup" while talking to other species so that they will understand what we are talking about. An example from the show would be Chronosapien Time Bomb. In the show, we either see it gets called that by non-Chronosapiens or Maltruant speaking to a non-Chronosapien, Vilgax, which would align with the "human cup" example I have just explained. I'd also imagine that Chronosapiens wouldn't refer to Chronosapien Time Bomb with the "Chronosapien" part but rather just "Time Bomb" or "X Time Bomb" where "X" is either the name of the Chronosapien who invented the Time Bomb or the material it is made out of. Although, yes, canonically we don't know the actual species of the Cosmic Mom or what "Naljian" is supposed to refer to. It could also be the name of the inventor of the device too, who might be the same species as Cosmic Mom.
I swear one fact I've heard but couldn't find a source for is the ultimatrix turning the user into a duplicate of the alien scanned when obtaining new alien DNA.
@@jammingwhey2781 That's just stupid They look exactly the same because of something magical called "reusing assets" lmao By that logic all of Terraspin's species are also clones of Galapagus, cuz when Aggregor arrived everyone looked the same. And the only other member of the species to not be genetically identical would be Adwaitta. They just use the same models to save time, money and resources. Unique desings are made for special individuals or occasions. It isn't even a new thing, OS did it too. BenWolf and BenMummy where identical to the Yenaldooshi and the Mummy. They just gave one cloths and swapped purple with green for the other. Meanwhile BenViktor got an actual new desing to make "Viktor" look more like a hero/good guy.
was binge watching breakdowns and had a question, if the omnitrix does make the transformation the peak form of the species, does that mean ben as grey matter is as smart or even more smarter than Azmuth? i like the idea that it does as ken was able to hack into it and get master control. his grey matter having knowledge as great as azmuth, the creator, would make it easy for him
people should stop using Ken as an example, that Omnitrix was made by Ben and not Azmuth so ofc its gonna be easier to hack, this holds true in OV too as Biomnitrix is made by Ben and it fails near solar bursts, which doesn't happen to Azmuth's Omnitrix
Something I noticed about the wiki is that some of its errors come from the fact that people from all over the world collaborate and that's where many problems come from because in some dubbings there are things that were changed and when people who didn't see the series in their original language contribute to the wiki that's where some errors appear, I realized this since I usually read the Latin wiki of Ben 10 and I noticed how some collaborators are the same.
I kinda made my own headcanon for Kevin's thing. He is an alien, Osmosian, and everything about his backstory was true. He went to prison, met Kwarrel, learned to control his powers, but when he escaped, that's when he was captured and tortured by Servantis. He used Kevin's Osmosian DNA to splice the DNA of the children of some plumbers, and then that's when he erased their memories of the events and sent them free as experiments. I think that puts them both together in a satisfying way
That's my headcanon too. Only thing from the franchise I'd change is him being Max's partner. Gives a horrible characterization of Max for not recognizing who was clearly Devin's kid.
Why would Servantis work so hard to get Kevin back in the present day if there's an entire world of Osmosians out there that could do exactly what he wants Kevin for
no this headcanon doesn't make sense, if all osmosians can do what Kevin can do then why go after Kevin? him being a mutant makes much more sense with the tone of OG series
well duh, if you actually watch the episode they made pretty clear that the Naljian Destructor wasn't named after the Cosmic Mom's race. they didn't even knew there was a Cosmic Mom looking for the Cosmic Toy that their Cosmic Child lost long time ago so if anything the Naljians are the species/empire that found said cosmic toy
I use the site for my videos a lot to get species names and confirm some abilities and weaknesses it's nice that they are doing a rehaul to make sure everything is accurate
Holy crap, Forever Knight Ninja WASN'T his official name all along?! All these years and I had no idea.... I admit, for once I'll give OV a point: calling him the Red Knight was the right call. It's a less convoluted name and more to the point.

I know there for a while there was Gwendolyn Ben's(semi-official) daughter there's concept art of her, and she is seen next to Kenny in ep. Ken 10, and yes her animation model was used in Ben 10'000. Heck she looks like Kai, if we have to accept that Kai was Ben's future partner, then I accept the fact that Gwendolyn could be canon.
The only way I could see Kai and Ben being an official couple canonically if they had an Alien Hybrid daughter named Gwendolyn since Kai loves Ben's aliens more than Ben himself, so Gwendolyn being an older sister of Ken makes perfect sense.
@@RoronoaZoro-ur6hr I could see that I just wished they kept with that concept of Ben having a daughter along with Kenny and those two could had a stand-alone episode together, like Ben anodite potential skipped him(though it was hinted in UAF Ben 10K) that he can use Anodite energy, so Gwendolyn would be just like her Aunt Gwen, but with Kai's native american ancestry. So instead of Aliens she deals with spirits of deceased villains in afterlife. Cause Ben-Kenny are one of my favorite father/son relations in fiction. While Goliath/Angela, and Jotaro/Jolyne are some of my favorite father/daughter relations in fiction so I see Gwendolyn getting along with Ben, but she's stuck up like her mom while having Ben's cleverness to outwit opponents.
5:39 The game enemies are Forever Ninja Knights, the Red Knight is the character. 9:55 Should’ve added it in parenthesis like this (Also known as Cooper Daniels in this comic).
I didn’t understand why the forever knights still existed after UA? When Ben stepped in to fulfill George’s final fight, he ended the sole foundation why the organization was even formed.
I can't remember the names, but I like to believe that the guy who used Kevin's powers to make the hybrids simply went with Max's own paranoia over the idea that everything he promised to his partner about Kevin was just another false memory out of spite against Max
On the subject of the quartet of Bens from Alien X-tinction, my headcannon is that the ones from classic, UA, and Omniverse become the Ben 10,000 each show provides.
0:35 This reminds me of how Ian Flynn used the long-past-reconnected _American_ Manual for Sonic Chaotix's story with one exception: The name "Metal Sonic Kai" which came from the _Japanese_ manual where it was the name Metal Sonic's spare body. Metal Sonic didn't get an upgrade between the events of CD and Chaotic but rather his regular body was under repair. His giant transformation went entirely unnamed in both versions. (Also Pontac and Graff straight up admitted to getting most of their Sonic lore from the fan wiki) It's weird to me that he made this common mistake but didn't make the same mistake with Mecha Sonic Mark I and Mecha Sonic Mark III (the marks were added designations in a retcon to help distinctify them) who were long incorrectly known by the fanbase and never canonical to the games Archie Comics as Silver Sonic and Silver Sonic 2.0 (Archie also introduced a Silver Sonic 3.0 which was an unpainted Mecha Sonic Mark II )
Eh, I feel the merch argument is kind of shaky. Merch is an official part of the show and how its perceived, so unless its directly contracted by the show itself at the time of its release I wouldn't call it a fake fact (or a retcon in the opposite case), just that it was "decanonized". When you lack a primary source it's only natural that you go to the next most official place as a source of information and these things are always subject to change. I'll give an example, Marvel comics releases official handbooks for their characters and storylines, some done in house. In a few of Cyclops' entries it says at his optic blasts don't come from his body, but instead that he opens a portal to a dimension of concussive energy through his eyes. This is never stated to be true in books and other official handbooks state the opposite. This has even been played with in canon where another character opens a portal to a dimension that is filled with red concussive energy and fans have dubbed it the "Punch Dimension". But the question then becomes, do bits of information that's unconfined or contradicted/changed later/ignored invalidate every handbook that has or will come out, even for characters who don't have this specific problem and for ones who won't have primary information given later? With this I feel it should be a case by case basis where if the primary source doesn't use it as a fact, you can ignore it, but if its never claimed otherwise it fine as a source of information to cite. These things are just going to happen with long running continuities with multiple creative sources, not everyone is going to agree, look up what previous creators have said/done or even honor what was done before they had creative control, so when you look at it like that why can't non-show sources be viewed as reliable canon until the show says otherwise?
the Cyclops example was a perfect example to this discussion as I feel most Marvel fans I've seen dont know where the "eyes opening to a dimension" explanation even originally came from
I think another Ben 10 fake facts which we all believed is how we spell Aliens name and the different versions of it. Some of the alien spelling are different in both shows and merchandise. For example Eye Guy and humungousaur had their names changed over the years. That due to people interpretation of their names.
As someone who always watches media sub if possible I can say definitively sub being just flat out wrong or missing massive sections is super common. Especially the older the media.
I spent so much time on the Ben 10 wiki growing up so seeing so much misinformation was shocking but I love Learning more about it and i will going back to one of my favorite sites in the world!

Eichiro Oda says he heavily relies on One Piece wikis to keep things consistent. I can understand why, Akira Toriyama straigh-up forgot he wrote Lunch into the story at some point and then realized like a decade down the line “oh, right, I did write that character didn’t I”
Its genuinely great that the Ben 10 Wiki's team is cleaning it up & making it more reliable & such, but I do think they should still include these fan ideas/theories/fake facts/etc but they're directly stated as false or uncorroborated at this time. It would be a way to document/categorize this stuff, without fooling anyone in thinking something to be true/canon, when in reality we simply do not know at this moment or it was directly confirmed or contradicted to be false.
Imagine changing something on the wiki and it being in the show
This makes me realize if I ever work on a piece of fiction or create a franchise I will just say “This is a collaborative effort between other directors, writers, artist, and myself. Even though I’m answering your questions they are just MY headcannon beliefs.” That way there isn’t so much confusion or contradiction. And it would help a lot if people were honest and upfront about what things they worked on and what they didn’t.
That's the best way to go about it.
My favourite part of the Ben 10 Wiki is that KO from OK K.O. is a page on it.

You'd think there'd be internal documantation that'd make the wiki completely unnecessary for the rotating writing team.

It might be incorrect rumors, but I heard that Cartoon Network does infact have internal materials, they just refuse to give them out.
Red Knight does fit better than Red Ninja, but the robot is SO ninja it's hard to not think of it as one.
I agree. I don't know if I would have liked him doing a reboot but it definitely wouldn't have irritated as much.
The reboot definitely fitted his style more.
I thought he fit Omniverse really well. Especially since it had so many people from Transformers Animated work on it, and Derrick was the art director and a showrunner on that.

Cough cough Mor'otesi
Honestly that’s no fun to not allow other products or staff statements to be possible
This is very true. Many writers all telling us pretty production ideas, concept art, scrapped story lines, ect ect is fun, but people give it too much weight when these things contradict the actual story we see.

A lesson here is that fans shouldn't take easily edited sources from a Wiki (Specifically from FANDOM Wiki) as full on facts.
With regard to the DVD subtitles being inaccurate at times. It’s my understanding that subtitles (in any media) are based on the script, like copy and paste. It saves massive amounts of time compared to someone transcribing all the lines. If the actor gives a slightly different take on the line but it’s close enough, they don’t bother changing it.
oh
A lot of tech and items in the show get referred to as where they came from.
Techadon Robots, Tetramand engine, etc.
So someone at some point knew the Destructor was from the Naljian race, then everyone referred to it as such after that.
Definitely. The series has more instances of things being named after their race than instances of them not. I guess the main difference is that Techadon Robots and Tetramands are recurring creatures in the series, while the "Naljian" species is as much of a one-off as The Great One from Cannonbolt's bebut or the gold-shitting Gremlins from "Fool's Gold"
Oh, good point! So, it could be still Naljian, but it also could not. I guess, we'll never really know until its properly confirmed.

the "Glass Cup" analogy really put into perspective how odd it is to assume that an objects name can be used to determine the name of a species
Not really, because you have to think what were show producers thinking rather what is more logical in our universe. It makes complete sense for writers to name the technology after the speices using it, which happened multiple times in the show anyway

We never know what they're actually called
If I recall correctly, you never see Maltruant referring to the bomb with that name, it's always some other character who did so. From their point of view, calling it a Chronosapien time bomb is understandable, just like aliens referring to cups as "Human cups" is understandable
I think the first one might have been caused by someone mishearing the J. in "Aloysius J. Animo" as James.

12:42 It was not just him, Magisters Prior Gilhil and Arnux are stated to *still* not be Incursions also.
True, but it's not provable that they are or aren't. But as for the Incursean Warrior, it was pretty clear what he was meant to be.
The Cosmic Mom talking to Ben and the others is just like a real life human talking to a sentient 2D character.
While we don't say things like "human cup", we do refer to relics by their culture's name to clarify who made them. This would be a similar case
I swear one fact I've heard but couldn't find a source for is the ultimatrix turning the user into a duplicate of the alien scanned when obtaining new alien DNA.

By that logic all of Terraspin's species are also clones of Galapagus, cuz when Aggregor arrived everyone looked the same.
Meanwhile BenViktor got an actual new desing to make "Viktor" look more like a hero/good guy.
was binge watching breakdowns and had a question, if the omnitrix does make the transformation the peak form of the species, does that mean ben as grey matter is as smart or even more smarter than Azmuth? i like the idea that it does as ken was able to hack into it and get master control. his grey matter having knowledge as great as azmuth, the creator, would make it easy for him
AZMUTH IS A PEAK GALVEN
Azmuth is peak Galavan i'd say their on par.
When Ben reaches Azmuth’s relative age they’ll be on par.
@@Deadpool-ri3rq should age even matter? it hasn't been a problem even when Ben was fighting luma who was declared the strongest at the time.
people should stop using Ken as an example, that Omnitrix was made by Ben and not Azmuth so ofc its gonna be easier to hack, this holds true in OV too as Biomnitrix is made by Ben and it fails near solar bursts, which doesn't happen to Azmuth's Omnitrix
Honeslty woth how many mistakes ,misconceptions and all these cooks in the kitchen its surprising how ben 10 is still great show
Let’s be thankful that aside from possibly the Kevin thing these additions have not affected the show’s in a major way
Something I noticed about the wiki is that some of its errors come from the fact that people from all over the world collaborate and that's where many problems come from because in some dubbings there are things that were changed and when people who didn't see the series in their original language contribute to the wiki that's where some errors appear, I realized this since I usually read the Latin wiki of Ben 10 and I noticed how some collaborators are the same.

They Probably Take The New Intro Properly Including Alien X Instead Of A Black Silluete As The Start Of A New Season

It was so cool getting to talk with Dan Riba and help out.
(Also Pontac and Graff straight up admitted to getting most of their Sonic lore from the fan wiki)
It's weird to me that he made this common mistake but didn't make the same mistake with Mecha Sonic Mark I and Mecha Sonic Mark III (the marks were added designations in a retcon to help distinctify them) who were long incorrectly known by the fanbase and never canonical to the games Archie Comics as Silver Sonic and Silver Sonic 2.0 (Archie also introduced a Silver Sonic 3.0 which was an unpainted Mecha Sonic Mark II )
