    Nice video. I first saw this method on LoLoHo. I have a 1999 f250 7.3L. Yup...20 years old now, and, I love this truck! I mean, its a TANK! I am about to retire and begin my RV life. Cant afford the new trucks, so, I took my truck to a trusted mechanic, with nothing actually wrong with it, and told him to open everything (engine/turbo/6 speed transmission/rear end) and make it a new truck that will last another 20 years towing from Alaska and back multiple times. Even a new paint job, rhino bed covering, straight 4" exhaust, cold air dam, and install an exhaust brake. Cost me $9K, but, that was easier to swallow than $80K for a new DEF computerized headache. Point is, I totally understand investing in what you already have.

    I have a 06 Lariat F350 with now 450K kms/280k miles on it. It's never been in the shop since I've owned it. Like most I've replaced the egr, oil cooler and with them new rad, water pump, t-stat and overflow bottle, 48v ficm, rebuilt the turbo, pull the injectors every 60k kms for a Ford seal refresh, change out the batteries and alt about every 3 years as the truck just loves them. Of course with all that mileage the usual suspension and brake work. All of this work has been done in my driveway with nothing but basic weekend mechanic tools. Seriously the truck is not that hard to work on and the parts are more than reasonable and easily located.
    Truck is my daily ride and pulls my 8000lb RV on weekends.
    I've always tried to keep it as close to OEM as possible. Find the truck has plenty of power stock - it IS a hot rod, gets decent fuel mileage for something that weights 8000lbs and is certainly the most comfortable truck I have ever owned, fantastic seats, it's just huge inside!
    Looking back at what I've done I'd easily buy another one.
    One thing to consider when buying ANY used diesel regardless of the badge on it you either better be very handy or have deep pockets as ALL these trucks will require some work eventually and if you are not up to the task shop rates are very quickly going to eat into the very reasonable cost of purchasing used. Shop oil and filter changes are crazy too! Do all that home as well.

    • @LoneWolf-cf5tp
      @LoneWolf-cf5tp 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Louis Schummer I fully agree if u buy used or even new and plan on keeping it for a long time You better be handy with tools. It will save you so much money doing your own maintenance. A lot of folks don’t understand that. If some people got the money to pay shops then good for them but I’m not one of them

    Bulletproofed ours myself last year. I bought the truck and the egr cooler blew on our first trip a week after buying it. Thats when I found out roadside insurance is a waste of money. I had to get the truck and trailer home myself. So far the truck is running great and doesn't come close to getting hot. Even with the cost of the truck and the 5k to bulletproof it I'm way under the asking price of a newer truck.

    6.0s get a terrible rep but they really aren’t as bad as people think. If you run good coolant(ELC) and quality oil you will save yourself a lot of headaches. I’ve had a stock 6.0 for 4yrs now with no issues. Also keep in mind a 6.0 is a lot easier and cheaper to fix than anyone of the new trucks.

      Mopar Charger Not 100% sure what you’re asking. But the 2011s are really good trucks if you tow heavy a lot. There only problem is the turbos tend to fail prematurely. You’ll most likely get better fuel economy out of a 6.0 if you’re doing a lot of daily driving. In my 6.0 I avg about 16mpg and about 10-12 pulling my 11,000lb fifth wheel

    I am retired and decided to replace my 1996 Dodge Ram 2500 V10 because of the fuel cost. I knew that I was going to have to wait for the best deal and I took a year and half. Knowing about the 6.0 liter ford I refused to even look at any Fords and then the dealership I was working with came up with a local trade in of a 2004 Dodge Ram 2500 5.9 liter Cummins with the 8'bed. Really nice truck with 122,000 miles and had a Airdog fuel system kit all ready install. I got the best truck I could afford and will be selling my older Dodge in the near future. When my wife and I RVed across the country last year (gone for 7 months) we saw several Fords on the side of the road and everyone of them had the 6.0 liter. We took one gentleman and wife in a Ford 6.0 liter from 40 miles out of Rapid City into town where they could a wrecker to tow them in, from the looks of the truck the EGR cooler did major damage to the engine.

    Kind of surprised not to hear that an external water filter was installed. I put one on to filter those particulates out that clog the oil cooler. I installed HPOP w Blue Spring Upgrade. Get a good water bottle cap- stock caps are terrible. I bought a Scan Gauge II two years ago, plugged it in, and had a 30 degree delta between oil and water temps. That kicked off my round of bulletproofing. I couldn't justify the cost of the ARP headstuds- if I could have done the project for less than 2k- I would have. Great video. Thanks.

  • @FVRwilson
    @FVRwilson 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    This is what a local diesel performance shop quoted me...
    "You don't need an hpop upgrade, What it all includes is arp headstuds, resurface and check heads, new head gaskets, new OEM oil cooler, clean turbo, stand pipes and dummy plugs, new rebuilt Full Force injectors. Everything with a 1 year parts and labor warranty for $7k out the door. Unless we find something weird inside that should normally do it. If anything else is wrong we will advise before proceeding so no surprise for you"
    Does sound right for the price? I'm pretty ignorant on what it should cost. Thanks in advance for your advice.

    I was just wondering did you also delete the factory oil cooler in your 6.0 , with a bulletproof Air-To-Oil cooler with BPD OIL FILTRATION, I think that would be the best thing you could do on a 6.0 , the reason why I say is , I believe that the factory oil cooler is the main component that will fail within 20-30 thousand miles and ruin everything and if it does fail it could also blow your egr cooler without you knowing unless you keep your eye on the oil and coolant temps I would say never let them be different than 15 degrees and then it could also blow your head gaskets too if you don’t take care of it soon and if you keep running it forget it but if you add the bulletproof diesel air to oil cooler your truck will last a long time and you won’t have to worry if your egr cooler will go bad especially with the bulletproof egr cooler that’s a badass cooler , I have that set up in my truck with bulletproof and I couldn’t be more happy , good luck with your 6.0 , just a thought I had watching your video thumbs up 👍

      It depends. When I had mine done, it ran around $9,000. I had more done than may have been needed, but I wanted to nip issues in the bud ahead of time. New high pressure pump while everything was apart, I had the heads fire ringed, and a new turbo as I knew the old one was sticking. The average I have seen is $6-6,500.

    I don't want to rain on your parade but don't be surprised when it breaks... again... and again... and again... as a former 6.0 PSD owner, I can tell you the pain never ends with them. I replaced every single thing I could with redesigned OEM parts and did everything by the book. Used ARP studs, had the heads redone, OEM gaskets, new FICM, new everything... Every single sensor has been replaced, everything has be done... and it still never left me feeling confident. I'll never buy another diesel that isn't a Cummins.

      @@AllAboutRVs oh, I'm in the same boat. I totally understand. In my case, I sold my truck and bought something older. Sounds crazy, but I bought a 98 Chevy 3500. I'm going to swap a Cummins into it and keep everything mechanical. The entire swap will be less than $10,000. In my case, my Ford consistently ate $1,000 bills, even after bulletproofing and fixing and repairing every single conceivable thing, so they come and swap will pay for itself in no time. I'll miss some of the newer technology that's in the newer stuff, but I won't miss the constant repairs, and constant depletion of my savings. I hope your experience is different with yours.

It does have a stock style oil and egr coolers on it but they where both replaced with the upgraded units with the extra core about 30,000 miles ago. Truck only has 166,000 on her. I installed a scan gauge 2 and I have put on the BPD waterpump, purge tank and also there full aluminium radiator. I had the plastic end cap start to separate on me last fall. After four years of testing the bullet proofing your truck can you give us an update please. Thanks

      We never had issues with the things we bullet proofed after the repair but we ended up selling the truck early 2020 because we got tired of all the other things failing around it leaving us working under the hood more than we wanted.

    I’m a mechanic, stay AWAY from newer trucks. The DEF systems are horribly unreliable and just as costly to repair/replace

      No kidding. A fluid that freezes at -11C and live in a country where sub -30 weather is common, really well thought out. No wonder people are doing full deletes of the crap design.

      When you say "new" how new do you mean. Like if we want a dodge truck, what years do we want to look at? And our mechanic friend says go dodge, but do you have an opinion about the big 3?

    So, why would the OEM plastic water pump blades break off again? versus the Bulletproof metal blades?, if bulletproof pump provides for more circulation, I could see that, but otherwise, why?

    I heard about this place and looked them up online. I was all jazzed about getting my truck worked on there and then found out they only service Ford trucks. I was very disappointed to find that out. Is that still the case? Either way, I hope you have a great experience.

    The oil cooler is another huge weak point on the 6.0 . I didn't hear you mention changing to bulletproofs oil cooler, did I miss that?

    • @sciewter
      @sciewter 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oil cooler usually fails as a result of a failed EGR but proper coolant and coolant maintenance/flushing and or installing a coolant filter.
      I would rather delete the EGR if possible.

      Here was the mount amzn.to/2TZzgn1 and you can use any single din car stereo you choose and it will fit right in there. It worked out great and didn't feel like i just stuck the Scan gauge to the dash.

    Exhaust Gas Temperature is the most important to keep an eye on while towing, keep it under 1300F. Also if anyone needs help with their 6.0L, head over to powerstrokehelp.com and Bill will help you out.

    I had my '04 Excursion Bulletproofed almost 4 1/2 years ago and couldn't be happier. I run both the Archoil Oil and Fuel additives in my 6.0. The next oil change, I am switching to Full Synthetic oil. The regular "dino" oil can't stand up to the rigors that the HEUI Fuel Injectors put it through. The extreme pressures cause the regular oil to shear. So, the oil changes may be more expensive now, but will save me in the long run. Let us know what you think of the 7.3 manual fan clutch, especially in the summer when towing. Bulletproof diesel has some great products!
