Dark Elves and Redguards are my favorite, they are vastly different in culture and architecture techniques from the rest of Tamriel, to not say anything about magicks. I wish Bethesda could let us play with Sword Magic.
Some of the people who wrote this lore left before Oblivion came out, but one of them - Michael Kirkbride - is still consulted when new games come out as a freelance writer. He contributed ideas to Oblivion and Skyrim, but the stuff he turned in was white washed and defanged quite a bit.
A stealth build is amazing, especially if you want to join the Thieves Guild or the Dark Brotherhood. Both questlines were a breeze when I played my Bosmer stealth archer.
See, I'm kind of weird there. You'd usually expect to go for an assassin or something, but I always go for a warrior that also uses conjuration and destruction magic.

The Dunmer have always been the most interesting race to me. Their culture, architecture, fashion, religion... everything about them is alien and fantastic compared to the somewhat realistic cultures of most of the other provinces. The only other races that hold that kind of mystique are the Khajiit, whose very physiology is dependent on the moons, and the tree worshipping Argonians.

When I said fantastic I didn't mean that it was something I agreed with, just that it was something that seems like should exist in a fantasy setting. Better loving them than the people who worship the boring races of man, the bretons whom are just lame spawns from a better race, altmer. Imperials who are just bland copy paste romans with no real interesting lore beyond being that, and nords who are just bland vikings that stole dragons culture, with some decent history of heroes but are ultimately just a bunch of boring farmers and drunks in every game they're featured in. Pretty much all mer races are more interesting than the races of man. And hell if you're going to shade dunmer for enslaving people you'd have to criticize a bunch of other races too, I mean nords literally helped genocide the entirety of another race.
Honestly, the casual slavery, racism, and nationalism are what caused me to not care for the Dunmer when I played Morrowind. Their history and culture may have interesting details, but the negative traits overshadow them and shall not go ignored.

No wonder they got kicked off the Grand Council. Point is that, barring the Hlaalu, no other Dunmer worth their weight in ash would even think about supporting the Empire.
Since Morrowind I’ve always been charmed by the Dunmer culture, their architecture, history, politics, and methods of living, it always intrigued me. They are probably one of my most favorite race in the series.

Technically Sotha Sil was affected by Azura's curse and became a Dunmer, while Almalexia remained a Chimer, and Vivec as in everything about the Three is halfway between the other two.
You're right and wrong, The Tribunal were affected by the curse but because of their divinity they are able to choose how they look, Sotha Sil choose not to revert his appearance to a chimer cause he didn't care, Almalexia was vain and decided to become chimer once more, and Vivec decided to be half and half to reflect the bridge between the past and future and how he's always been of a dual nature due to his hermaphrodism.
I think Raven Rock and Tel Mithryn are an example of how the Dunmer luck will turn in time. The Dragonborn DLC starts with Raven Rock as a poor, bleak village full of miserable elves. But then you can watch in real time as they outlast the troubles besieging them, as they power through like good Redorans and come out the other side stronger, safer, more profitable, and with new hope for the future. Tel Mithryn could be considered even worse off. No one there is very good at surviving,and they're constantly besieged by ash spawn. They only survived this long because of the powerful sorcery of the colony leader, Neloth, who no one there really likes all that much. And yet, like their neighbors, they power through. Neloth is able to get rid of the source of the ash spawn, and thud he makes Tel Mithryn, and indeed all Solstheim, safer, and he gains a new assistant and a new member of house Telvanni, which means more assistance in the future. Even if Neloth is still a prick, he's given his servants something to look to the future for. Playing the DLC, it's easy for me to think that the Dunmer have light at the end of the tunnel, because you see them get that light in miniature
The future does certainly look good for the Dunmer. In Solstheim you can already hear from poeple that Vvardenfell is being inhabited again. Also there is fact that volcanic ash fertilizes the soil wich will lead to an over abundances of food wich will in turn lead to an explosion in population growth. And the biggest reason of them all. The Dunmer are for once truly unified because of house Redorans succesfull campaign against the Argonians. It would be really cool if in the lore we would learn that while the Empire and Dominion where fighting eachother and then Morrowind would come out of nowhere and conquer them both. Lol.

This was straight inspiration. Jeez. After reading about the Red Year from the Infernal City and Lord of Souls books I understood why the Dunmer in Skyrim were so beaten down and broken. This video is like an injection of hope that they might rise again to prosperity. Maybe not in Morrowind, since it's an ash covered wasteland, but possibly somewhere else. Maybe they rally and conquer some territory, maybe a rebellion rises from Windhelm and usurps Ulfric.
Nah, they'll clean out the ashen wastes of Morrowind and reclaim it as their spiritual and ancestral homeland. That, or they'll rebuild atop the ashes, one. They wouldn't just abandon the land upon which rests countless of their ancestors, the Dunmer being not only a Daedra-worshiping race but also an ancestor-worshiping race.
Because of Vivec's duality Baar Dau was not only a symbol of Vivec's power and benevolence but a threat to the Dunmeri people to never abandon him or the meteor would impact and destroy them. It was kinda like his loaded gun to the people's head.
My very first character in the The Elder Scrolls Series was a Dunmer called Boron. Back in Oblivion I played him as my first character. Over the past weeks I play Oblivion pretty much again and remade my once first character to play. Dunmer are so cool and it brings back so many memories! Thank you for this video :)
Same on both, although willing to try other ES4 races for fun builds now. Imagine playing a Dunmer with maxed out Speed, and doing the entire Main storyline with a Bounty. Name him Arvel ;)
The Dunmer are definitely my favorite elven race while the Redguards are my favorite human race. While the other races do have some pretty unique history non of them are as interesting imo. The Dunmer have such an alien way of life and the Redguards are so badass that they survived the previous Kalpa, doesn't get any more badass than that.
If you think about it, Bethesda is like the Aedra and the mod creators are like the Daedra. They can't create anything new, only morph and change that which has already been created.
That's factually incorrect and quite insulting. There are hundreds of thousands of mods across many games that adds all new assets. If a mod author decides to make a new game they wouldn't choose to use the Creation Engine but most would choose Unreal. The difference between a mod author and a developer is one does it for money and the other does it because they enjoy it.
JETWTF I agree with most of your points except one. Actual developers don’t do it exclusively for the money, they have passion, enough to get through school and countless amounts of debt. Most also work to feed their families.
Loved the Dunmer since Morrowind, when didnt know english and spent my time exploring Vvardenfell. Now with every piece of lore i uncover this love keeps increasing!
The Dunmer tend to be all over the place. The Dunmer seem to have (at least in the 4th era) a combination of Babylonian, Hebrew and Greek inspired names. Their isolation, supremacy beliefs, ancestor worship, the Red Mountain, and the Architecture in ESO scream East Asian (Chinese, Korean, Japanese) The Ebony Blade from Mephala is a Japanese Katana, though I would think it changes throughout the ages. The Hindu connection with the Tribunal and the Reclamations. The Houses (or clans) seem to be inspired by the Japanese warren states era. That's just my take.

Something about the meteor, is that it was stated even though vivec stopped the meteor he couldn't actually put it down. This was because the meteor still had its kinetic force. When the first mages went to step foot on its they were instantly turned to paste essentially, and the mages that were up there can't actually touch the meteor itself on the outside.

Ok huge elder scrolls fan and huge dunmer fan. First char was a dunmer. But doing so many long videos on a single race even the dunmer would eventually cause alot of overlap and become fairly dry
I hope they rise and perhaps, after seeking refuge on Solsteihm, my favorite race will begin to forge even a loose relationship with the Nords against the Altmer. Dinners mindset of mortality and becoming stronger through the trails of hardship is their greatest strength.

I've only really played oblivion and skyrim. My friend let me play his copy of Morrowind for a little bit and I remember thinking it was really cool. I also remember asking what the hell happened to that guy!? Never found out.

Over the past weeks I play Oblivion pretty much again and remade my once first character to play. Dunmer are so cool and it brings back so many memories! Thank you for this video :)
Nords have been my favorite since I started in Oblivion, but Dunmer are easily a very very close second.
The Nords were the only race I could play in Obilvion. The others had bad voice actors...
Same on both, although willing to try other ES4 races for fun builds now.
Imagine playing a Dunmer with maxed out Speed, and doing the entire Main storyline with a Bounty. Name him Arvel ;)

The Dunmer are definitely my favorite elven race while the Redguards are my favorite human race. While the other races do have some pretty unique history non of them are as interesting imo. The Dunmer have such an alien way of life and the Redguards are so badass that they survived the previous Kalpa, doesn't get any more badass than that.

If you think about it, Bethesda is like the Aedra and the mod creators are like the Daedra. They can't create anything new, only morph and change that which has already been created.
That's factually incorrect and quite insulting. There are hundreds of thousands of mods across many games that adds all new assets. If a mod author decides to make a new game they wouldn't choose to use the Creation Engine but most would choose Unreal. The difference between a mod author and a developer is one does it for money and the other does it because they enjoy it.

JETWTF I agree with most of your points except one. Actual developers don’t do it exclusively for the money, they have passion, enough to get through school and countless amounts of debt. Most also work to feed their families.

Loved the Dunmer since Morrowind, when didnt know english and spent my time exploring Vvardenfell. Now with every piece of lore i uncover this love keeps increasing!
I never really thought much of the Dunmer before, but I think this video just made them one of my favourite races. well done FudgeMuppet.
The Dunmer tend to be all over the place.
The Dunmer seem to have (at least in the 4th era) a combination of Babylonian, Hebrew and Greek inspired names.
Their isolation, supremacy beliefs, ancestor worship, the Red Mountain, and the Architecture in ESO scream East Asian (Chinese, Korean, Japanese)
The Ebony Blade from Mephala is a Japanese Katana, though I would think it changes throughout the ages.
The Hindu connection with the Tribunal and the Reclamations.
The Houses (or clans) seem to be inspired by the Japanese warren states era.
That's just my take.

Something about the meteor, is that it was stated even though vivec stopped the meteor he couldn't actually put it down. This was because the meteor still had its kinetic force. When the first mages went to step foot on its they were instantly turned to paste essentially, and the mages that were up there can't actually touch the meteor itself on the outside.
didnt sheogorath shoot the meteor at morrowind because they illegalized cheese?
Morrwind is so ingrained in me, i still get shiver Hearing the Soundtrack..after all those years...lol.

Question for you lads, you mention how a video on Dunmeri culture being an hour long indeed we fans of the Dunmer people are blessed with such in depth lore on them, considering this fact have you considered doing a series of in depth videos on the various aspects of Dunmer culture? You mentioned an hour long video, why not a series of hour long videos? The Dunmer are an opportunity for study on a detailed level no other race allows us, why not embrace it?
Ok huge elder scrolls fan and huge dunmer fan. First char was a dunmer. But doing so many long videos on a single race even the dunmer would eventually cause alot of overlap and become fairly dry

I've only really played oblivion and skyrim. My friend let me play his copy of Morrowind for a little bit and I remember thinking it was really cool. I also remember asking what the hell happened to that guy!? Never found out.
