OMG worst ending to a show I have ever seen in my life. The bad guys commit insane atrocities. Literally killing millions of innocent people moments before the ending where they get off scott free. ARE YOU FLIPPING KIDDING ME!!! We are making Peace with literally space Nazi's and they get off with absolutely no consequence and we are supposed to think this is a good thing? What a major sell out of not only the espoused ideals of the Federation and the Franchise itself but a major FU to all the people who would have actually suffered in universe. Peace is a noble goal.... but not with literal Nazi's.
Odo, one of the main characters resolves his moral struggle by abandoning the person he loves and joining said bad guys.
Damar, one of the main antagonists who starts to undergo a heel face turn to undergo a redemptive arc (and is a standin for the redemptive arc of the Cardassian people in general) ends by..... randomly dying to stray gunfire minutes before the end to absolutely no affect and is never addressed or even so much as commented on.
That thing with Sisko and Dukat a the end was just.... nonsense. Actually the who thing with wormhole aliens that have "no concept of time" but can somehow speak to people which is literally requires a concept of time because you have to know that some sounds come before/after others, is just stupid. Actually Sisko in general is just the worst. First there was him stamping out the Maquis who where fighting for their freedom which is supposedly something the Federation stands for. Not to mention the federation abandoned them in the first place. Not to mention they where fighting one of the big bad factions that comes back to bite the federation. It's ugh. Then that whole thing with Sisko stopping SF intelligence from stopping the dominion and literally saving/freeing literally untold quadrillions of innocent people across half the universe because poison is..... shady or some s***. OMG give me a break. And a better captain.
Then you have the race that was taken over by parasites who somehow convinced and entire civilization to worship them as gods and compete for the "privilege" of sacrificing their lives to be their hosts with Dax.
I mean, I could go on forever. I just can't even with this show.

Another good example of a director with a great eye but doesn't seem to understand what makes their thing work is Michael Bay. Someone did a video about it, about how Bay has _seen_ great movies, seen things in then that work beautifully, but doesn't understand _why,_ so he just goes overboard with it.
I think all these visually-oriented directors need a strong editor. Like how George Lucas' ex wife saved Star Wars in the edit.

Dawn of the dead is the best film he has directed by far. I really like man of steel. The rest of his movies have been bad. As for no arc and story 300 has something to say about that. There is literally only 3 things that happen in that movie for plot points.

    Heres a hot take.
GHOSTBUSTERS II is underrated due to the endless comparison to the lightning in a bottle the first film was. I understand its a sequel to that film, and its totally normal anD SHOULD be compared to the original. But its still a good solid entry into the franchise, and a good, FUN popcorn movie, the horror elements are done well, the comedic elements are done well, the effects were great (admittedly for the time not so much now), it had fun with the original without making fun OF the original, its rewatchable moreso than a LOT of modern movies. I just think its a better movie than most give it credit for.

I quite like The Last Jedi, and thankfully I only became aware of the negative opinions others' had on it after I was able to see it the first time. Two years later, and I still feel the same. And there's no shame in that! I don't think those who dislike it are necessarily "wrong" (though I find bandwagon hate particularly troubling), but I hate this idea that if you liked the film you're "wrong" or "not a real fan" or "tasteless." People immediately question you when you say you like it, rather than being like, "Cool! I'm glad you saw something you liked in it."
On the flip side, I was pretty meh about Rogue One. It was just okay to me. When I saw it in theaters, people clapped, and I was thinking, "Hmm I don't know if it was clap-worthy for me." But you know what? I don't consider myself "right" or look down upon people who like Rogue One. We just like different things from these movies!

I disagree with the last jedi stuff with luke. The reason people don't like him, and that mark hamill didn't like, was that luke was literally the only person in the galaxy that believed darth vader could be redeemed. And now at the slightest hint of darkness in ben he tries to murder him in his sleep? It's not characteristic of him. Plus, he exiles himself for absolutely no reason effectively? I understand that people change over their lives, but they didn't put the work in to have those changes make sense.

    • @MrKangorilla
      @MrKangorilla 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

A moment of weakness when you're sensing "snoke" inside your pupil is understandable but admittedly not very believable if we're talking about luke although it had been a long time. Failure and redemption was a key theme of that movie and his failure resulted in the fall of his jedi school and the creation of kylo ren which is ample reason for someone who already seemingly had cracks in his judgement, to go into exile for.

    • @Geoffery_of_Monmouth
      @Geoffery_of_Monmouth 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

"And now at the slightest hint of darkness in ben he tries to murder him in his sleep?"
Why is it so hard for people to actually listen to what the movies say?
Luke, very clearly, says that he had sense darkness building in Kylo for years, and that it finally had gotten to the point where he felt he had to confront him, so he went to his tent to talk to him, only to realize he was much further gone than he could have ever imagined.
It's perfectly characteristic of the character, who has shown before that he is capable of losing his composure in the face of losing people he loved (cough cough Vader trying to turn Leia cough cough).
But I guess I forgot, once the dark side has tempted you once it can never tempt you again.

    Disagree with Ed about TLJ
The Force isn't for everyone. It's for people who are Force sensitive. But it was never limited to just the Skywalkers either. You implying that before TLJ it was, is just utterly silly. The Star Wars saga was about this family- the Skywalkers who had members that were thought to be chosen ones to bring balance to the Force.
It's okay that TLJ moves away from the traditional "hero's arc"
But this new trilogy was sold to us with the promise of a continuation of the original trilogy. A promise to see where Leia, Luke and Han ended up. We deserved to see them together for a little bit.
What's not okay about TLJ is how they completely misuse characters of the original trilogy and also don't give you nearly enough time to get to know the new characters or even let you like them enough to give a shit about their story. Kylo Ren was just a whiny teen with attention deficit.
They could have done something interesting with Finn's arc, but they didn't.
They tried to force some kind of relationship between Leia and Rey when there wasn't any.
There were better ways to get their new angle across without botching up the story.

28:24 the reason people react so strongly is BECAUSE people have baggage. Of course they have baggage. Studios are digging up classics that people are attached to, and trying to remake and reboot franchises that DON'T NEED sequels, and are good enough that they don't need remakes. (Good enough because they were of their time. Some stories just don't work for this era)
    They should let things be.
9 times out of 10 a remake won't work. Or even if it does, it might not connect with fans of the original
It just feels like Hollywood is shoving stale food into our mouths and getting mad and blaming audiences because they're spitting it out.

Wow, just watched through the TLJ segment of this video and the hosts certainly didn't seem to get why people didn't like Luke's character in TLJ at all, they just went the complete superficial route. It wasn't that Luke had changed from when we last saw him in ROTJ, we all expected him to have changed over the last 30 years. But what pissed people off was that we didn't see what brought about that radical change in Luke. He goes from the only person who believed that Darth Vader could be redeemed, to thinking and attempting to kill his own nephew while said nephew was asleep. That is a massive change in Luke's character, and we aren't shown how or why that change comes about aside from a line or two of dialogue and about 15 secs worth of flashbacks. Instead we are taken on a pointless side quest to a casino for 20+ minutes, when that screen time could have been easily used to flesh out the reasons why Luke had changed so drastically. And besides, even in the EU, when Luke has several students fall to the Dark Side, he attempts to bring them back to the Light, he doesn't just immediately think about killing them.
I will agree that TLJ didn't kill Star Wars but it has wounded it significantly considering the last two films have either lost money (Solo) or look to have fallen short of expectations (TROS).

There are no movies/shows that do these things well and have hate/bad reactions from fans. Its difficult to make movies and television but these four items are all equally important. All the fan hate/backlash is because at least one of these items was taken for granted/just plain bad/not given the effort it deserved. Most of it is due to really bad writing. Please forgive me for this short rant...but if I may drop my thoughts for a moment...my "hot take" if you will...
The Last Jedi didn't kill Star Wars. But it defiantly was the metaphorical ice burg that sunk this particular trilogy's narrative. Ryan Johnson was the problem with The Last Jedi, not Kathleen Kennedy. (Not entirely.) He completely ignored what was best for the story in lieu of doing what HE WANTED to do. He did that A LOT in his film.
    1. He dismissed the Knights of Ren even though they were set up to be something important.
    2. He had Kylo say that Ray was a nobody regardless of the fact that it was insinuated otherwise via her touching Luke's lightsaber for the first time giving her force visions that were DIRECTLY RELATED to him.
    3. He dismissed Snoke as a nobody (even though he was an Emperor-level Sisth Lord) and he turned Huxley into a joke for no reason causing JJ to bring in ANOTHER Huxley-like character to make up for it.
    4. He ignored Finn's force sensitivity (being that he was able to use a lightsaber with enough skill to hold his own against Kylo Ren for a minute or so completely untrained) and decided instead to make him the comic relief Jar Jar of the film and he also ignored his obvious romantic interest in Ray and threw Rose in and tried to force a sudden romance where there was none, once again, for no reason.
    5. He ignored Captain Phasma's obvious importance to Finn and killed her off seemingly only because the audience wanted something more from her.
    6. He COMPLETELY retconed the fact that accoeding to TFA Ben had rebelled against Luke unprovoked, burned his academy/school to the ground and killed all of the students who wouldn't follow him and instead in TLJ, he made Ben's turn to being Kylo all Luke's fault...for thinking about assassinating him????
    7. He completely disregarded Maz Kanata and neglected to move her backstory forward.
I could seriously go on and on, but the fact of the matter is that it seems to me like Ryan had some resentment for everything that TFA tried to set up and he just wanted to tear it all down just for the sake of it.
    "Destroy the past."
Even if there was no plan in place for Star Wars (which is HIGHLY unlikely seeing as how it's the most bankable IP since the Bible and Disney spent $4B to acquire it) Ryan had a responsibility to continue the story that was being told IN SERVICE OF THE SERIES THAT WAS BEING MADE. If he were doing his own take on Star Wars from the beginning, that would be one thing. But this was a trilogy that was part of a larger anthology. And to the absolute determent of the overall arc, he insisted on ignoring his duty as a director and doing his own angry thing. (I use the word "angry" because after his tweet/instagram/whatever upload of him holding up a sign to the fans saying "Your Snoke theory sucks", it's the only logical takeaway I can draw...that he was either angry at the fans, at J.J., at the IP or a combination of all three.)
I've no idea why Disney and Kennedy allowed Johnson to take the property so far afield when we all KNOW that he had to run his ideas by the House of Mouse before his script was approved and we KNOW that the board of directors along with Kennedy were allowed to see the film and its relation of the larger narrative before it was released. Its uncharacteristic for Disney to allow something so against the grain that rocks the boat so much. Than much can be seen in how it's handled the majority of its live action remakes. Almost always safe; almost always beat-for-beat what the majority of audiences will likely accept.
I have so many feelings and The Last Jedi is just baffling to me.
Also, as a final personal pet peeve of mine with Johnson's movie...DAN WAS %100,000 CORRECT in the Rise of Skywalker spoiler review. And what he said was something I've said ever since TLJ was still in theaters. The "Mary Poppins Leia" scene should never have happened and the Holdo Maneuver should not be a thing. I think that most of us believed that Leia was going to die in the second film and that Luke would likely die in the third...or in the second film after PHYSICALLY confronting Kylo to aid Ray in a "If you strike me down" moment mirroring Obi Wan's sacrifice in A New Hope. Ryan played with this by having Luke die (unceremoniously) in the second film and faking out Leia's death. Hindsight being 20/20 in the wake of Carrie Fisher's tragic passing, it would have been better (for both the overall story and what became Fisher's legacy) if Johnson, since he'd put the characters in the position in the first place, had allowed Leia to make the suicide run. I can think of no more epic or memorable way for Leia to have left the franchise. Basically, the lightspeed run should have come to be known by the fans as the Organa Maneuver.
Thanks for reading if you made it this far.

Tom Lazorik I did too, but there were a number of people on the “it was ok” side of things. Doesn’t seem to get worse than that, though

Denni Wintyr glad it’s not too toxic! Honestly, it was the perfect wrap up for me. And I loved the entire series

SG-1 and Atlantis both had good to decent endings. B5 also ended (almost) perfectly.... if you pretend the season 5 doesn't exist, which I do. Clone Wars was ok too.

Trying to think of sci-fi shows that ended well and all I can think of is Babylon 5.

The question should be, Did the last jedi kill the skywalker saga? and the answer is yes.

The problem with 2016 ghostbusters is, it was like the manatee Family Guy writers from South Park came up with the concept of the movie.
    Ghostbusters+ladies+Paul Feig.
The all lady cast directed by Paul Feig (or maybe even another lady) should’ve been it’s own movie, and the ghostbusters reboot should‘ve been an entirely different movie (it can also have ladies...just so nobody thinks I’m sexist)
I think ghostbusters 2016 is hot garbage because it doesn’t take the ghosts seriously, and it goes from four people riffing to ghost busting.
If the time spent ghost busting was spent in a more normal situation where the characters have scripted dialog that forms some sort of narrative structure. Well, that’s a movie, and probably an enjoyable one at that.

I can't disagree with everything you guys are saying anymore then I do... Wow some of us that are a little older waited our entire lives to see the Luke Skywalker we remembered and I don't know if you kids can grasp that. The last Jedi was absolutely the biggest let down. It killed this trilogy for me
