    I’m stunned you got offered no fees and a personal contact plus other things! My experience was very different. I got the referral bonus (no of which have paid out yet) and there was a cash match bonus for the first week only and that’s it. I’m still going to be selling on there because I have to get rid of stuff but it’s bloody hard work and you feel drained after . Also it’s kinda crushing if nothing sells and you’ve wasted your time. I’ll keep monitoring it as I go. I’ve got to face the fact that I’ve not got enough time to list everything I have so it suits me for now along side the main sources of income

    I’ve no plan to sell on WhatNot. I have watched a couple of shows but I loose interest very quickly. I just can’t see what the pull is for Jo Public. Why would you watch something for a couple of hours on off chance something might come up of interest. Waste of time.

    Personally I think whatnot is in it's early days and a long way to go before it's a good selling platform for all . However early days of eBay were bidding only and I remember those days could be disheartening. However whatever ever we do for a living as SE folks,it must be beneficial to you and the rewards must be worth the input . I see some on it and they are giving it a go but whatnot just are not generating the punters ,those who are selling well do seem to be bringing their followers over from TH-cam ,insta etc

    As we all know whatnot is about having a big following who will watch all shows. Also got to source cheap stock on a regular basis which is hard to do.
    You got to think about wether your selling 30 itens at a £1 or so each or sell less on eBay and make more pure profit. Dosent seem the top uk resellers on whatnot are making lots just whatnot throwing good deals there way.
    Have you ever seen whatnot advertise? I certinly have not just like poshmark. Its US based so difficult to bring accross and have similar success.

    Really interesting to hear about your experience. If WhatNot doesn't get a bigger public audience soon, it will implode. You can't make money selling to resellers. At the moment there is a reseller-FOMO which is blinkering many of them. Reselling can be lonely and I'm sure the audience interaction makes these sellers feel less isolated. Like you, we feel sorry for the WhatNot sellers who we follow on youtube and are trying to make a go of it. They are under the impression that if they try harder it will work better, which probably won't be the case. I suspect their eBay stores are suffering due to the time spent preparing for WhatNot. Our daughter and her friends have never heard of WhatNot, despite them using all the social media platforms. The time-limited nature of a WhatNot auction, along with a limited audience is just not the ideal way to sell anything.

    • @Married2Reselling
      @Married2Reselling  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      So many great points - the social aspect shouldn’t be underestimated - a small price to pay for some company/interaction. There is a lot of loneliness in reselling.

    Whatnot reached out to me several times, but I keep ignoring their emails. The thing with Whatnot is that in the US, they have a huuuuuge market unlike here. But even then, the ones that are doing well in the US are really big sellers, buying in pallet loads...ones who have massive buying power. Here, I see resellers sourcing from charity shops and I'm thinking....noooo, this is a sure fire way to lose money. I source from rag houses already, but even I am just not going down that Whatnot road. I can't bear to watch shows and see people selling stuff for a loss consistently. It's also still resellers selling to resellers...and I always said this was not sustainable on Postmark, and I don't think that's different for Whatnot.

    Whatnot need to start target advertising
    I have friends and family, who are online shoppers, spend a ton of money online. They are comfortable buying from TikTok shop shows, eBay, websites, everywhere online, via influencers recommendations… their kids have left home, they have well paid jobs, they have money to spend. no one I’ve asked have heard about whatnot.
    99% of resellers have. But the general public are clueless
    If whatnot are not targeting the people with money in their pockets, it’s just a downward spiral for sellers. It’s very disappointing.

    You make lots of good points and we have already spoke about this on the podcast a little, i do believe that whatnot need to start a serious advertising campaign before lots of sellers just leave due to low sales values. What disappoints me most is that they are treating sellers very very differently with benefits and bonuses and sponsorships. It's starting to feel very unfair and i also believe that (like youtube) if you are being sponsored in any way it should be declared on the video and made clear to viewers.

    • @Married2Reselling
      @Married2Reselling  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      We were really surprised when you talked about your experience, that was a complete surprise and seems very unfair. Whatnot T&Cs clearly state that anything funded by WN, cannot be revealed to the audience. They don’t want ppl knowing that they’re funding the sponsorships/giveaways etc.. That’s why they don’t talk about it, might be different in the US because they all talk about it there.

    @coincollectella7826 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

    For me the challenge with WhatNot is that you need to have a niche and have a pre-existing following in that niche.
    If you’re an established gaming only reseller with a social following of 50k+, if you push your shows to your following and get say 3% of your followers to attend that’s an audience of approx 1,500 people to sell gaming items to, who are interested in gaming items. In that scenario if you can source good stock in volume, then it can work to sell volume in a short amount of time compared to say eBay, that’s great. That makes whatnot a platform to leverage your already put in hard work of achieving your community elsewhere, but that’s not how they are positioning themselves.
    On the other hand… if you’re a generalist reseller or clothing reseller with a smaller social media following, how are you going to get a big enough audience to cover and guarantee sales of a diverse product range or a variety of clothing/shoes sizes. Faye’s example of gym shark leggings is spot on, that seller if they have an audience of say 200 on the show, what are the odds someone out of 200 wants them in that size, must be very low. Also why as a member of the public would I watch an hours shows in the hope you might have a couple of items in my size when I can find 1000s of items in my size on eBay?
    I’m not sure they are marketing the Why of the platform, why it exists and why it’s good for who. It has no clear stated purpose so it will likely fail.

    • @Married2Reselling
      @Married2Reselling  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Very well explained. It’s one thing having an army of social media followers, but how does that help the next person. Interestingly, before the days of poshmarkuk and whatnotuk these followings were built on community, with everyone helping each other. If you were just a lurker, you’d likely not generate a particularly big following, but if you shared and interacted, you would. We’ve never been comfortable using our following to extract money because for us, IG is a free resource of knowledge and community and we wouldn’t want it any other way. We’re not here to be sold to.
